Its good to see the bike finally come together. I always thought the XCM was a usable fork, so I agree with leaving it on. Nice work overall

XCM is honestly not bad at all. Appreciate it man!

Have you ridden it since the build? How's the microshift cassette been doing? I've seen a guy put it under a microscope. He showed sharp edges on the teeth, ramps, it looked awful. Same issues as I had on Sunrace cassettes. 🤦
I see you gave the bike away. So might not have ridden it much, but if you have seen how the cassette is doing for the new owner then that would be interesting.

How did you know where to break the chain ? I have a new cassette for the kent, however I'll be going from 11-42 to 11-46. Been trying to figure out if I'll need a longer chain.

There is actually a way you can measure it for hardtails. Parktool have a great video on it but basically you put it around the biggest cog in the rear and your front one and make it tight. Then you add 2-3 links from that point. I would definitely watch the parktool video though! HAHAHAHA

Some other quick tips from a shop mechanic if you're interested...
Test the cassette first, it's the easiest way to figure out if you need more chain. If the original was sized correctly 4 teeth on the rear shouldn't require a new chain. The best way to measure a chain in 99.8% of the time is to put the bike in the smallest chainring (if 2x or more) and the smallest cog on the cassette; keep the chain as long as possible without the rear derailleur cage riding/rubbing on the derailleur body (ie. as long as the derailleur isn't at full slack/just a link or two of tension). That's basically the longest chain you can run and still work the drivetrain and it lets you swap to bigger cassettes and reduces derailleur wear when you're torquing the low gear as the derailleur won't be over-stretched to take up the tension.
I find the Park chain sizing vids a little overcomplicated. Just install the chain as normal, pull the derailleur until you have that minimum tension, pick the link you want to cut the chain at for the master link, install master link. Done, and the bike is ready to go, no removing/reinstalling the chain. Anyway, just 2 more cents if you needed it.
