Thank you for showing this wonderful movie. I saw it decades ago and never forgot it. Starting in 1947, we always had electric trains going around under our Christmas trees and my mom would arrange villages, sleighs with horses and so much more in the middle of the tracks under the tree. Brought back great memories. Yes, I still have our trains.
Do you know how thrilled I am to know that I could bring this movie here for you to remember good memories? I never knew the movie existed until I decided to bring back recognition for Mr. Raft and save his legacy. Thank you for sharing your memories.
SUPERB! Raft, Brent, Randolph and Harding....does it get any more moving than the wonderful story of a mother's love and the adopted sons, gone wrong who make it right in the nick of time. Roller coaster of emotions, some giggles along the way and a deep insight on what REAL feeling should and could be. Thank you for this. I loved t when I was young and is still does not disappoint at the age of 56.
I'm thrilled that they finally started showing this movie again at least on Christmas Eve. I uploaded it here for those who don't have the movie channel it is shown on. it looks like I made the right decision I keep getting compliments on putting it up from people who have not seen it in years. I also have the privilege of giving George Raft his First and only Facebook group and that is growing by the day. I made the right decision there too. All of his legacy was being shelved and forgotten and it seems I have made a lot of people happy with both decisions. Thank you for your comment. ; -)

I always like to speculate on "what happened after" for movies I enjoyed. And I enjoyed this one. I speculate that Mario was cleared of charges and took over managing Miss Matilda's affairs. With pressure from Mario, Jonathan and Michael "straightened up and flew right" after this. Jonathan and Jean got married, and after some long, legal red tape, adopted the three little girls who grew up in their Great-Aunt's house. Michael and Ann got married, but chose to live in an apartment in town. Miss Matilda forgave the boys their pasts, but made it clear she wouldn't tolerate any more foolishness from them. A heart-warming story like this needs a "happily ever after."
i agree with your ending for Mario. and about jonathan/jean but doubt they stayed in the mansion. Probably got a $ gift from Matilda. The playboy continued the high life financed from Matilda. Why did they leave the story open ended.. Now a-days it signals a sequel .
SOUTH OF SUEZ (1940)! What a gem of a movie classic, although not well known and hard to find. I wish someone would upload the movie, assuming there's no copyright. Or, at least, scenes from the movie.... Thanks for this movie.
I only put up George Raft's movies since they are never seen on TV anymore. Do a search for South of Suez. It could be on TH-cam and thank you for liking this movie.
fabulous print , impressive.... great black and white film so rich i gorgeous detail, how i would love to see this in theater ! i have seen wonderful black and white classics like Philadelphia Story, in an old art deco theater in Oakland, California... transcendant expérience
For the first time in many years, TCM will be showing this movie on Christmas Eve/day at 3:45 AM. That is an improvement due to Raft's group members. I doubt they will put this back in the theater but who know keep asking it may work.
George Raft and Ann Harding! Love them both....Connections to Valentino: Raft and Valentino danced at tea dances at the same place...and George is a dead ringer and probably could out dance Valentino...Ann Harding and her husband rented Rudy's home, Falcon Lair, for awhile after he died...And I adore George Brent, too!
@@hollywood-thegoldenage5310 Sure! I am not on Facebook, sadly! Also, if you have not seen Ann Harding and William in Double Harness, it's here on YT! It's s short film..you will love it! Powell is divine! Another Harding tidbit..she was a Broadway actress...Valentino came backstage to meet her. She dismissed movies because she felt they were not as important as being on the stage and wouldn't last. Of course, she later changed her mind!
Glad you liked it. The movie has not been seen on TV in ages. There is one TV channel that recently puts it on now on Christmas Eve but I thought it would play well here so people can be reminded it does exist. Too many of Raft's movies have not been shown in 30 yrs now it's not right. He deserves to have the next generation see all his movies.
This would make a nice remake. On second thought, they would probably all have superpowers, have special effects, and be woke. Never mind. No remake needed.
@@johnraymond4322 I deleted your first comment since I felt it was quite rude, very one-sided, and was far from the TRUTH. The reason George was forgotten had nothing to do with his acting ability or his refusal of parts. I'm also tired of older fans constantly connecting Raft and Bogart together. You are comparing apples and oranges. George was multitalented and his private life read better than some novels. George was a fantastic self-taught dancer that's where his talent and love lied. What I said back to you before (and now deleted) was also the truth, that did interfere in his doing other movies that may have made him even more famous and not why he really didn't refuse but was coerced. Maybe you should have asked a question instead of putting Raft down without having enough knowledge on the whys and wherefores of a person's life and just repeating internet drivel. George was the one that saved Bogart's life in the shooting of "They Drive by Night" if he hadn't, Bogart would never have made another movie. Finally, George was f orgotten more because he had no family when he passed and no one to keep his legacy alive like Bogart or Cagney. That's where I came in to make sure his legacy didn't die. Maybe you should see George's dance movies or his better movies made in the '30s which are no longer shown on TV. Maybe you should have joined his group where you could learn more about George and even talk to me personally. A lot nicer than repeating old rumors on the man's TH-cam Channel. If you decide to join just let me know it's you and I'd be glad to talk to you one on one in messenger.
Nice Christmas tale! Too bad it wasn't restored, it looked like a TV copy. According to Imdb, it was Robert Altman's first screenplay! Who knew. Everyone mentioned the leading men and Ann Harding, but I especially enjoyed the three lovely ladies: Joan Blondell, Virginia Field and Dolores Moran.
It was restored anything by OLIVE usual is and you are right about Robert Altman mentioning the actors in this movie. I couldn't find a direct link to though. If you have it please post it. TY

😢@@lennydupont9005 Everything I read about Raft stated his dad was German, mother Italian and he was "raised" Roman Catholic. Hard to believe perhaps, considering his raucous, colourfu l, entertaining life! And he wore a Catholic cross and medal... Apparently he did marry (age 22!) a devout Catholic woman whom he separated from. But then he supported her financially until her death in 1970, as she refused him a divorce. There's a recent new Raft fan base which is easy to understand, based on his earlier 3o's films that show his versatility in excellent acting, dancing and humour. Check them out!
