    I'm thinking my adult children should be writing Alex a note of thanks because each time I see these videos it makes me clean out a closet or drawer. My home is not too cluttered but thanks to Alex, it's even less so these days.

      I actually started doing the same...... I have given away and donated probably 25 boxes of things.....and they were good things. I have a habit of collecting things, then keep them new in the boxes, bags, then find them in a closet a year later. Also clothes....I love clothes..

    Alex, through all of your home series, you show so much respect for the former owner, despite the condition of their homes. The Potters home, the Musicians home . Beautiful , loving, talented, gifted human beings . Maybe this will be the ballerinas home. The hidden doors you open, hold so much more than just stuff . Blessings to you and your family.

    I discovered a TH-cam channel called A Hoarders Heart. She has been making videos for around 4 years. She is a hoarder who is overcoming her hoarding habit, she explains all about her emotions and reasons for hoarding. She really explains all her feelings, I have binge watched her videos her story is really interesting.

    I would look through every single thing. My mom had alzheimers. When we looked through her house after she passed, we found money everywhere. When you showed some bags and said, " it's moldy", I thought to myself that you'd better check them. We found money, diamond rings in among moldy papers.

    That was so ironic when you showed that phone book and immediately looked for your name or a family members name. When I was a kid, as soon as the phone books arrived at the house we would look for our names and to see if we could find any friends names. Back then your address and phone number were listed. I think it is great that your whole family and an occasional friend help you with these cleanouts . Thank-You again for including us in your adventures of a cleanout.

    • @Ragnar8504
      @Ragnar8504 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In Europe you still have that but fewer and fewer people are actually listed. Landline phones are listed automatically, for a mobile you've got to apply to have it listed and very few people, especially my age and younger, actually do that. In the early 90s Vienna had a four-volume phone directory (three of them White Pages, one Yellow Pages). Then they made the print smaller and the paper even thinner and reduced the White Pages to two volumes in the late 90s. Nowadays they're one, much thinner volume.

I just cleaned my bedroom top to bottom and have some bags to sort through! Just the boxes for cell phones and such. I tend not to buy so I dont have to face this. Already gave anything important to my kids. Most of it. Top is high. We have a story and a half and 8 trusses. We bought an extension handle and disposable swiffers. Just too hard to get ladders out to get the spider webs etc. 25 feet above our head and 64 foot long skylight! We are old now. My hubby can do it. I cant hold all the weight of the handle and not break something. But I clean the below well!

    Alex, please use medical grade masks rather than cloth ones, or industrial grade masks with replaceable dust filters. They are so much more effective, especially for someone who is allergic, or asthmatic.

      A lot of the factories that the paper masks were made in are turning out to be horrific - you might be breathing in worse crap with the mask than without!

    I'm in love with your green Ford pickup!! I'm 57 years young and from the time I was 12-13 years old my dad started buying Ford pickups like yours and most of them are parked in a row, out behind our barn. My Dad is 86, and still says "Yall leave my pickups alone & stay out of them! I'm going to fix them up and drive them someday or use the parts off of them to put on my pickup when it breaks down." He actually does take parts off of them and put on his old Ford that he still drives from the 90's. The moral of my story is don't bother things that aren't yours, even if is old & especially if it's your Dad's, because it's valuable to him or the person who owns it. The value might be just a memory, but those are the most valuable things & when they're gone, you can never get them back.😢
    I love your channel, watching you treasure hunt and how respectful you are of the things you buy

    I'm surprised Alex that you have never made a scrap metal pile.... and at the end take it all in now that you have that trailer might be worth it.

    Sorry, I may be commenting on the wrong video(I streamed a few to my tv last night), but I don’t think the water damage and asbestos make for a tear down unless abatement is required for sale. In many cases, when lead paint or asbestos building elements are intact, they can be safely covered. A bigger issue is what may be behind the walls- aged wiring that’s not up to code.
    This actually looks like a fine house, and I’m jealous of all the space. It looks so modestly sized upstairs, then huge downstairs. Almost bigger than uptop since it’s not carved into so many rooms? I would love this house.

    Fun fact: If you have any clothing or bedding that isn't donatable, as long as it's made from natural fibers (cotton, wool, silk, leather, etc.), you can compost it. The same is true of paper and cardboard.

    The Goodyear Tire folks made foam mattress in the late 60s - early 70s at the Luckey, Ohio plant. My mom worked Quality Control on the mini store samples.
