Sonic Frontiers - Out Of Bounds Unused Area At The Beginning of the Game

  • Just a quick upload to document that this exists.
    There is a wall runnable wall right at the very beginning of the game that is supposed to be a tutorial for wall running, but it's very finnicky to get Sonic to stick to it for some reason. And even if you do, there is an invisible ceiling preventing you from climbing to the ledge on top, and that ceiling stretches out a bit to make launching yourself up difficult.
    However, if you slide after boosting up a steep slope right before Sonic starts skidding back down, the slide will carry your upward momentum and you can jump out of that. This can be applied in various ways throughout the game but in this instance, we can use it to gain a lot of height past the reach of the invisible ceiling to maneuver over it, allowing us to get on top of the wall runnable wall at the beginning of the game. Beyond here you can find an unused area.
    There isn't much of note, but there are a few things. Firstly there is a group of collectible Kocos just sitting up here. Then you can find some pillars arranged in a circle with a stone pattern in the middle. Beyond there you can find a field of flowers, and there are some trees littered about too. There is also a pretty distinct slope in an almost half-pipe formation that is fun to drop dash into.
    There are invisible walls surrounding the area to prevent you from going here normally as you traverse the tutorial area. These generally block you from getting back out but you can return to the normal play area by going back to the ledge with the invisible ceiling, as the ceiling's collision is also one way.
    It is also possible to softlock here near some of the invisible walls by getting stuck in an uncontrollable skidding loop. You can reload a save though, so I recommend making one before getting out of bounds here.
    I have max stats here which does make it easier to get up here but it's possible to do this on a fresh file if you farm some Rings to get the Power Boost.

    Shame to see so many unused areas in Kronos, this and most of Rhea island, though the latter you can technically explore, but it's devoid of any objects.

      Kronos, Rhea and Uranus Island where all supposed to be just Kronos Island wich some parts of these 3 islands are blocked off and unaccessible

      Yep, Ouranos was cut off and put into its own map, but if you use cheats/glitches to fly very high you can see the outline of where it was meant to be in the water above Rhea.

      Its all that unused area that has me convinced this game was rushed despite the long dev cycle. My theory is that an earlier draft of the game was so negatively received that they needed to rework the entire thing (adding all the rails and micro-platforming areas, changing the story, etc.). They likely didn't have enough time to fill out all of Kronos (when it was all in one piece) and decided to separate them into 3 islands with the latter two having less prominence for story reasons.
      The whole idea of having these platforming sections in the sky seems to be a very last-minute decision. Unlike others assets in the game they don't have any LODs, hence the pop-in. Notice how those platforming sections are the one thing in the game that pop in very noticeably.
      I have serious concerns when it comes to Sonic Team's game design process. It's good to know when something does not work and needs to be improved, and I think they did a really good job with their porting all things considered. Releasing a game on every single platform with such a wide range of hardware at the exact same time is a shit ton of work and something I don't think enough people give them credit for. However, I really am not comfortable with the idea of Sonic Team needing to do sweeping changes later in development just because they didn't concept or prototype properly. It leads to compromises, and we get lesser products as a result. We could have had a 8 or 9 out of 10, but we got a 6 or 7 out of 10 instead.

    Ever since Gamescom demo I was curious to know if there is supposed to be something going on that top part of the tutorial island that could've been accessed somehow afterwards.

    I'm not sure if anyone notices, but that left wall is climbable but there is an invisible wall not letting you go higher. So i wonder if the future free updates gonna add everything that went unused

      Yea that's my guess I think the 3rd dlc might make Kronos, Rhea, and Ouranos back into one island but it'll change when we come back to it again towards the end of the game, adding the towers and a few other things like the portal Eggman got sucked into at the beginning of the game, all of his friends being around the island a choice to listen to tails and find the emeralds first instead of listening to THE END. Which would probably cause another island to happen that takes place inside of Sonic's mind when THE End tries to take over.
      Which would end with a portal that comes out of that one unused broken portal in the beta island, and we just run back to his body and fight THE END out of his body or we just fight the end at the end of the mindscape, and Sage probably joins us in the extra mindscape island, hence her being shown with the new playable characters.
      If we listen to THE END then we play as the other's and free sonic then the game ends normal just Supreme would be in the giganto spot like it was meant to be and giganto in the woods area like planned. I've checked, and giganto is still in the woods area of Ouranos, and that's why there's a barrier around it, and Supreme is loaded via a cutscence.
      Basically, I'm thinking of two different endings scenarios, and the true ending is listening to Tails's instead of the voice/THE END.

    I think this is the area where Sonic was standing on in that one promotional shot for Frontiers we got before getting any gameplay footage, from the supported languages announcement or something

    i tried this and i get a voice line from the end that i never heard on my playthrough ( also i made the 100% of the game and all the achievements )

    Interestingly, in the new update a lot of the walls that you hit while up there have been removed and only the edge one's remain and even those have been pushed out more.
    The only one unaffected is the way to get inside of this area.
    They also added birds up there and Sonic can say a line about worrying about Amy and Tails and the bushes also make noise now.
    Unfortunately tho the way to get to Rhea is harder now the barrier has been buffed more. Although if they are messing with the unused Kronos tutorial section maybe the barrier buff at the Rhea section and vias versa on the Kronos section of the Rhea map is because they are adding things back in. Wouldn't be surprised if we see a piece of Ouranos hanging out in the back of these maps or the island which contains the portal Eggman was sucked into and was apart of kreanos island just chilling I mean it is already in the game just in the wrong spot it's the little island seen on the Kronos map but it was meat to be next to Ouranos part specifically near the woods arena on the side where you do a puzzle creating rails and the elder is. On that side but at the top.

    I'm pretty sure the cutscene at the end of the game uses this section and my theory is that it was originally meant to house a old beta Kronos story progressing mission (idk what they're really called) and due to some odd reason they had to remove it rendering the section useless. (also you dont want people wandering off in the tutorial)

      There is already one whos working on reworking krono's as a m9d for pc. The beta map was found in the switch version

    It's rare how there are areas in kronos that could have hide any secret for the player... Maybe to hide a boss, colectables, etc. It would have been interesting, not gonna lie.
    also, sonic team... Why divide kronos in 2- nono, why in 3 DIFERENT ISLANDS?
    PD:I had an idea in sonic frontiers to implement the parkour back from sonic lost world but using more momentum with it example:
    Theres a mountain that you want to climb. You can climb through using enough momentum to run to the top of it. It would have been really cool because you could just put collectables wherever you wanted and enfatize more the open zone concept.
    Maybe in the next game, maybe not...

    I actually got up here once while practicing the DSS shuffle and after exploring a bit I fell off the side of the wall then got stuck there until I used the fast travel
