1990 Mercury 25hp Bogging down at full throttle and pulsating. (I'M NOT A MECHANIC VIEW AT OWN RISK)

  • TLDR:
    It appears to have been a crack in a fuel hose introducing too much air to the mixture.
    Just FYI while it had the leak, I also did a seafoam shock as suggested in other videos, it got rid of a lot of sludge.

    Didnt make another video sorry, but it is fixed now. One of these 2 things was the problem. Have a feeling the cracked hose was it, the carb wasnt even really dirty.

    Thank you. My 30hp mercury is doing the exact same thing. I think I'm going to replace all the fuel lines and filters from the gas tank on to be on the safe side. Mine gets to half throttle power and that's it; even when I go to full throttle, there's no change at all.

    I have seemingly the exact same issue. Everyone says same thing but I’ve check hoses and everything many times. I have one old fuel line that I have not replaced and it’s hard and looks exactly like yours in the pic. I will replace it today and see. I have also cleaned carb twice with no luck

    • @TheBluceRee
      @TheBluceRee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is also common, Ive found out, that your engine could be bogging down due to one of the cylinders not getting spark. However, if its the exact same issue. Air is getting introduced somewhere? Maybe soak and rebuild the carb? Change fuel filter? Inspect the insides of all your lines they have a plastic lining that could have collapsed. Also, I havnt dealt with one before but the intake behind the carb also has to do with air flow, could be something wrong with one of the reeds. Good luck bud, leme know if you get it figured it out.

      @@TheBluceRee so that’s what I was thinking (spark ) but with your video and some friends all saying fuel… I did what you said… I replaced the one file line I hadn’t replaced yet and bought new fuel tank… so far she’s running awesome (in the yard) taking it to the lake tonight to make sure. Thanks so much for the video.

      @TheBluceRee  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you clean the actual carb itself? Like do a dip? I also had a problem with this boat that eventually ended up being the piece that tells the spark plugs when to fire was going bad(cant remember the name of the part) It ran like this because it was on one cylinder the eventually quit starting at all.

      It was but not as much as youd think, and when i opened it... i was not knowledgable about this stuff. I figured from a 1990s motor it just had oil and shit build up over time.

    • @bradley3549
      @bradley3549 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      At that point in the fuel system the pump is sucking, so it doesn't leak when running and would only leak a little bit and then stop when the engine was stopped. So it makes sense.

    • @zebu2294

      That sounds more like a carburetor issue. I would try to run some sea foam through it and maybe some carb cleaner as well.

    That’s exactly what mines doing so new fuel lines fixed it?

    • @TheBluceRee
      @TheBluceRee  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the stuff is pretty cheap. Just go to any auto store with a piece of hose off your motor. Get a few feet of it and replace everything. Espeically if its old, if youve been researching im sure you know the inside jacket can collapse causing the same effect as this. So even if its not cracked, could still be that. The tubing is relatively cheap...

    • @TheBluceRee
      @TheBluceRee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do not recall, but if you are having problems at lower rpms, I am currently having the same issue. Turns out in the drive way if I revved it up I could start it and keep it running for a while. If I lowered the RPM in the driveway it died. If I put it in drive in the driveway it worked fine, if i put it in drive in the water it died instantly. Turns out I have one cylinder not getting spark. Hope this helps.
