- Drag Race has a variety of improv challenges, but Snatch Game is byfar the most famous. Let's take a look at one.

The fact that Jinkx was paired with Dave, like, more than a decade ago and they talked about that crazy Judy Garland story, that she then referenced here AS JUDY is just, next level.
It will never be topped.
@@deathfire12who would wanna top coco?
its not that serious
@@rednipplxs2147🤓
@@rednipplxs2147Yes, yes it is. To those of us who watched season 5 when it first aired, that is.
I love how much of a trainwreck Jada’s Prince is. It’s actually one of my favorite preformances. Mainy because it’s so unintentionally funny and dumb.
I loved it, too. It also did - in the silliest way possible- capture what I thought was the spirit of some of his more interesting interviews. So I don't think she did as bad as a lot of people say she did. That's just my opinion though 😅
@@BenSwagnerd yeah it wasnt until this comment i realised it was a "trainwreck". i thought jaida just played it quiet
i have seen some of Prince's interviews, and you can definitely see the mannerisms come through and was pretty accurate most of the time. it's just that the answers didn't land much
fr, I was CRYING from laughter the first time I saw this episode and Jaida's Prince 😭
I mean it was so bad. It was good
Jinkx and BenDeLa are masterclasses of improv and character comedy every time that they’ve done Snatch Game.
Peaches Christ knows how to build em.
Dela or BenDeLaCreme, not BenDeLa
@@judna1People/Queens have referred to her as Bendela in the past, I'm sure she doesn't mind.
@@modernforever1528 I don't know, but she has said it multiple times.
Jinx saying ‘It’s a set’ is the best way to shut down a joke that could go too far without stopping the joke 😂
I am OBSESSED with her concerned tone and face when she says it too, it’s so funny. She’s so concerned that he doesn’t know it’s a set and that just SELLS the joke so much harder
Queen of ‘No, and…’
As an older gay man who gets the old references in gay subculture I wish that you had done a quick Google search on Waylon flowers and Madam and on Diana Vreeland they were both gay icons of the past. Diana Vreeland was a magazine editor at Vogue I believe and then became the head of the metropolitan museums costume collection. Waylon Flowers and his gang of puppets performed in gay bars and TV shows as well as having her own series called Madams Place.
The reason I say this is because if you had the information you would have seen how amazing Raja’s performance was.
I agree 💯!
If you're going to do a reaction vid, atleast look up the actual people that are being referenced in video.
Raja did a Fab job!
I understand that if people don't have time to do research on the stuff, life n such.
People saying, "I never head of that," or "I don't get the reference" in the era of Google is kinda baffling to me. Especially in this genre of video-making.
Isn't it an expected responsibility of someone putting out their opinion as content to at least use the opportunity to educate themselves and the viewers about what they are reviewing???? 🤔
@@boogiebear3027Truly! While I appreciate the video and I’m not out here making my own TH-cam content, so I’ll keep the critique short. She really should have looked up the characters she didn’t know, especially because with the exception of Monet’s Mike and Martin (and Jaida’s Prince) she didn’t know any of the black characters. As an improv coach I would have thought she’d give insight on how to improve their impressions.
I'm not even a part of the community and I know who Waylon Flowers and Madame are because I grew up in the '70s and '80s and saw them on TV all the time. I loved Madame's Place when I was a kid. Personally I think younger members of the LGBTQ+ community should know their history regardless of whether or not they're making videos. The other day I was watching someone's TH-cam video about the history of drag and she didn't even mention the documentary The Queen. Like, I'm a straight person and even I've watched that documentary. 🤷🏻♀️
Raja as Diana Vreeland is just…..SO funny. Omg her characterizations ?? “PURPLE MITTENS.” Was in my head for months after this
Did you buy purple mittens
I say or read bodega like her. BO-DE-GA
@@QuinnMorgendorffer-tc7ni this for my wife and I lol
@@QuinnMorgendorffer-tc7niSame here, from that snatch game on I can say (and enjoy) this word this only way!
@@QuinnMorgendorffer-tc7ni i quote this and Pearl's MAAAANSIONS way too much to be sane lol
The fact you missed the last bit is such a shame, it’s such a good improv moment from trinity.
You're honestly right. Justice for "they changed it to drag queen"
@@katelynisspooky 1) you should do a top 5 or 10 of snatch game performances, Jinx’s Judy is my number 3 of all time, 2nd is Alyssa Edwards’ (version of Faye Dunaway’s) Joan Crawford (from Mommie Dearest). Ru got this winner wrong.
1st was the incomparable Bendela Crème’s Maggie Smith (as the dowager duchess). This was a huge upset as I’m sure everyone thought Bianca Del Rio’s Judge Judy had it in the bag. And she was great, but Bendela was improv goal.
2) talk about your favorite Whose Line episode, mine is the one where Richard Simmons just pops in. It’s unending laughter from start to finish.
@@RLucas3000 I 100% agree with Alyssa's Joan being one of the best SG ever - however Alaska won that fair and square, she absolutely killed it too.
also Viv's Trump, Dela's Paul Lynde, Chad's Cher, Gottmik's Paris Hilton, Jimbo's Shirley Temple = other crème de la crème picks (honorable mention - Jujubee for the hysterical thermostat reply)
Yes! I was so looking forward to her take on Jinkx and Trinity's final moment there, and my mouth dropped when it wasn't shown.
They prepare the answers before w Rupaul.
The absolute genius of Jinkx able to do one of Judy's traits which is singing which is always something difficult to do because of copyright on Drag Race is to just sing RuPaul songs.
Madame is an iconic ventriloquist puppet mostly from the 70s and 80s, created and voiced by the late great Wayland Flowers. She was known for her wit and puns
wayland flowers and madame, not waylon. “He’s not a ventriloquist, and I’m no fu3kin’ dummy!”
Wayland and Madame were a pair of great comic queens
I love the diamonds joke so much
@@bosdavy1 There it's fixed. No need to make me feel like trash
Two snatch games that immediately come to mind are the one with Maria The Robot and the one with Melania because of the surprise factor associated with the performers.
The "China" joke Melania had is maybe my favorite moment on the whole Snatch Game realm, Aquaria was SO FAST for that! She couldn't have prepared that beforehand
i love s10 snatch game iconic highs and iconic flops
@@PauloCesarLira5I swear I think about "it's alright, Barack, no worries" at least once a week
@@lowlethat's my favorite also, she was so quick with that
@@ntuneric Monet's "and yet like dust, still I rise" made me howl when I heard it the first time. I'd love her feedback on that one
Jinkx's Judy had me in TEARS; what i would give to experience this snatch game for the first time again
Jinkx is the perfect example of a masterclass of how to impersonate and hone the character; i wish i could even have a sliver of that talent
Snatch game would be the one improv challenge that people think of on drag race, but one of my favorite challenges in all of drag race was All stars 3 “The Bitchelor”
The Bitchelor was so good. Trixie was robbed because Milk was just so bad of a partner. And if anyone ever doubted that Kennedy Davenport is fucking hilarious, her performance in the challenge was the perfect reminder.
YESS!
@@thirdeyyye this made so mad! Trixie had it in the bag with the character and was ruined by Milk. Maybe a good reaction from this channel so she can give tips of what to do or react to how she handled this situation.
Trixie won for me the minute she kicked the car door shut
@@thirdeyyye
Black people are always.
The thing about people not getting references doesn't really matter as long as Ru gets it and he laughs.
First rule of Snatch Game is always MAKE RU LAUGH!
If Viv had done Catherine Tate in a Uk snatch game/vs the world it wouldve gone down well, it was strange that she did Nan specifically tho
As an American I'm familiar with other Catherine Tate roles or her as a person and I felt like I didn't get any of the references. It must be because I don't know that character
Yeah Nan is probably the hardest Catherine Tate character to translate to an American audience (in more ways than one lol).
It's like when Tayce (UK S2) did Jane Tuner as Kath from Kath and Kim. I loved it, because I'm Aussie and loved that show but I imagine it was lost on Americans and probably a lot of the Brits, it was certainly lost on Ru.
Viv was my biggest disappointment in the AS7 Snatchgame easily - not because she bombed or anything, but her Trump is easily one of the best snatchgames ever so expectations were crazy high. sadly I think neither Patsy (icon but NOT easy to do), nor Nan were imo good picks (luckily Viv recovered with a bang in 'Fairytale Justice')
SHE KEPT MISSING NAN’S LAUGH. Like, it’s such a big part of that character and it was completely MIA! Also, Lauren would’ve been way funnier.
When I was a very little girl (I'm 51 now) my mom would send me out of the room when Madame would be on comedy shows because she was a dirty-talking puppet voiced by comedian Wayland Flowers (thank goodness for google, I didn't know his name!).
Yes, they used to be on all the talk shows. They were everywhere!
It makes me feel so old that no one remembers Waylon Flowers and Madame. I lost it when Raja came out in that outfit! She nailed it. Even her references, like Qualudes, were old. It was pretty good. And then her Diana Vreeland - PURPLE MITTENS! It was so stupid, I loved it. You know Jinkx is going to slay it, she's the master. But I don't think Raja got enough credit for this. I didn't remember her as being terribly funny. But this was great.
Diana Vreeland is the former editor in chief of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar and was a fashion columnist. Madame was a puppet on a show from the 80s titled Madame's Place, but it was a more adult-oriented humor puppet show.
Jinkx had them cracking up through the botox 😂
Oh hell yeah. Everything you've been reacting/commenting on is exactly my shit. Smosh, Dropout, WLIIA, Drag Race! Keep it coming!
Yessss me too!
Kevin Burton as Monet X Change as Martin Lawrence as Sheneneh
I think if you’re gonna do more RPDR a video on the read challenges and more specifically going into the meta process of joking about others in your improv group and setting appropriate improv boundaries around what is or isn’t okay could be a neat topic
Like Heidi in as8 during snatch game lol
Thank you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 she needs to move onto something else 💯
The reading challenge is not really improv tho
I figured out what Jada was missing with her Prince impression. Her jokes are funny because Prince was sexy and confident, but he wasn’t much for eye contact and she’s staring straight at Ru with her lines. If she would’ve avoided eye contact or just stared at the camera with a mild sexual intensity, all of her lines would’ve been funnier.
Season 13 would be so interesting to hear about from someone who knows how to do analyze it. there were SO MANY highs and lows it was a trainwreck but also incredible at times. love the video!
Rose's Mary Queen of Scots is underrated genius.
Heeeeeeey! You just cut Jinkx Monsoon singing the Drag Race intro and Trinity the Tuck saying that they changed woman for drag queen. It's the best part!
I think some of the characters were also just not given enough air time, or their better jokes were edited out for the sake of the story line. I really liked Raja's Diana Vreeland, but it's clear that she wasn't given much time to develop or play up her jokes.
Your comments aren’t wrong for the audience but ultimately you should be doing who you think Ru knows and will make him laugh. So what if a viewer doesn’t know who a character is, if Ru thinks you’re funny that’s literally all that matters.
Oh! You miss the last bit at the end when Jinkx keeps on singing and everyone breaks character and laugh 😁
I LOVE the snatch game from seasons 5, 6, all stars 2 and 4. BenDeLaCreme doing Dame Maggie Smith is still one of my favorites ❤
"We originated the language!"
@@dawngilpin5055 such a genius response!
I'd love to see you react to either the all stars 7 fairy-tale courtroom drama or the all stars 8 criminal investigation drama
A lot of the references people don't get are older references from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, because that was what was popular when Ru was a kid, back before there were so many shows and the internet, there was a limited amount of entertainment. People from that era have all watched and loved the same things for years. That is why Raja picked Madame, because Ru would love it. The entire point of the Snatch Game is to make Ru laugh. That's how you win it!
My thoughts exactly from her first season that Jynxk was a good improviser in the making, and having she performing with Bendela, basically as an improv show, has strengthen that ability waaaaay more.
*Jinkx
Wayland Flowers and Madame were amazing. You should check out some clips.
Raja really nailed Madame.
So good, loving your reactions! Missed the end song though, everyone breaking and the Leslie Jordan final comment was my favourite bit 😂
Excuse me but Jinx Monsoon is perfect
I would love to see your take on the Fairytale Justice Improv Challenge this season 💕
I said that too! Plus the csi type improv episode in AS8. Jimbo and Lala and Jessica were all fantastic
@@TheDopekitty Oh yes! Loved that one too
Jynkx used the echo of the Frank Sinatra joke later in the season during the set where the queens were roasting each other. She said she was sniffing a line when she had time to stop and consider: "have I become my mother?"
i think the bitchelor is a really good character focused improv challenge that showed many highs and lows from All Stars 3
Jada's impersonation was so bad it was funny xD
31:26 I mean, c’mon Mr. Boogeyman, there’s nothing but space and opportunity up in here.” 😂
This is so lovely to see RPDR is getting more recognition, queer art deserves more attention than it gets.
SO. Yvie looks a lot like Rico Nasty in drag, but that's about where the similarities stopped. Rico Nasty's music is loud, bold, and out there (which is I guess what Yvie was going for) but Rico as a person in interviews is very calm and...normal, in contrast to what Yvie did here. It would have been fun to see that dichotomy played with. There are things other than Rico's music I think Yvie could have played up, too, like that Rico got herself expelled from private school on purpose by smoking weed and now has her own strain of weed called Road Rage. Would have been interesting to see her approach things from that angle, especially because Yvie herself smokes weed! A missed opportunity for sure.
You should absolutely watch season 5 snatch game, jinx’s little Edie is damn good and it was one of the first out of left field characters that proved people wrong
Jadas prince was awesome - its like how he was in interviews 😂 genx here!
See the thing about snatch game isnt always to understand the character but its about making it funny. Like when Jinkx did little Eadie no one knew who that was
The fairytale justice challenge from AS7 (not 100% improv but thats how they referred to it I think) is another one that showcases Jinkx - the ear falling off & Bruno dropping his book and her immediate retorts were so perfect. Nobody particularly falls flat though.
Your uploads are FEEDING USSSSSS❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ love your analyses :)
Jinkx is incredible but I think what's even more impressive is the work of Trinity, Monet and Raja here because this is not their wheelhouse the way it is in Jinkx's. You can tell they really put the effort and thought in and it showed.
raja was robbed of top2
Trinity played the same character twice, with expected gay jokes.
@@DalsemienNah, even if both characters are gay, you can see the difference between them.
Jaida’s charm makes it all work so perfectly for me, I just laugh at everything she does here lol. Not on a Jinkx or Monet or Raja level but it’s great.
i really liked this video and hope you keep making more of these. however, i'd love to see MORE of your insight and knowledgeable commentary on the material you're watching, please don't be afraid to interrupt the piece you're analyzing, that's i think why most of us are here for.
Don't know how this video was recommended to me... but as a drag queen who dreams they can be on RPDR (and currently taking improve classes) I am glad it was! Love the brakedown, useful. I definitely need to check out the rest of your channel. More please
Good luck WHEN you get on RPDR….it can turn a job into a career. Positive energy.
The first step in Improv as I know it is “Yes, and….”
Good God Get It Gurl!
-Stella Zafella (retired old drag singer from SF)😎💋
As an improviser, drag artist and drag race fan, I love this video topic! But imo snatch game isn’t really very improvised compared to most improv theatre/comedy. Esp the people who do well at snatch game actually pre-prepare a lot. You can see how they mould their answers to fit any question. A lot of them have gags with props. Little bits are improvised sure but not loads. A lot of the queens are great at improv, I saw jinx recently do an actual long form improv show and she was PHENOMENAL. And many who have never taken a class are still great from all the hosting / crowd work and just quick wits. But imo snatch game isn’t really a full reflection of their improv abilities.
I think a video about some of the improv acting challenges on drag race would be interesting. Cus IMO those show a lot of “bad” improv habits. Like who can shout the loudest or be the craziest in order to steal attention. They also build into the challenge the competitiveness present, and queens are often criticised when they don’t shine as much as others. Whereas actual improv theatre/comedy is a at a base level a supportive team game, where the support moves are just as important as the funny characters. So it’s interesting to see competitive improv. Reminds me of American beginner improv jams in a bad way lol.
I suppose the closest thing I can think of is some short form / theatre sports where there’s less teamwork and it’s more just about throwing out funny witty lines.
You Skip the BEST part, the end after Ru's "time it's up", with Jinx singing the opening of Drag Race "may the best woman win" and Trinity interrupting with "They changed to Drag Queen" 😂. That's THE moment on that Snatch Game.
I quote "They changed It to Drag Queen" too much, It was superb comeback.
For reference: th-cam.com/video/HFWhb1V3Sp8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rV8QMc6cUjlxNkoJ
Constructive criticism because I love your channel and I’ve been enjoyed all your videos so far! So this video was personally difficult to watch because of the difference in volume between you and the footage you were reacting to. I can’t watch videos on a higher volume so when your voice was at a good volume, I could barely hear the rest.
Also, you remind me a lot of a tattoo video creator here on TH-cam that I also really enjoy, I think mostly your laugh is super similar 😁
a fun thing for you to review would be the presidential debate improv challenge they’ve done (specifically the one on season 12) it had some controversial judging so it would be cool to see a pro opinion on the performances there
That’s actually exactly how I see the devil so the impression was spot on
You clearly have watched this Snatch Game many times. You should have done your research and looked into the characters you weren't familiar with so you'd give quality feedback as opposed to saying "yeaaaah im not getting it 👁️👄👁️" several times. Your audience will respond better to informed opinions.
You missed the last part!! So good!!
I just had such a face/palm moment with why it's called the Snatch Game! I didn't know the old game show was called the Match Game in the US (it's called Blankety Blank here 🇬🇧).Suddenly it all makes sense!
Definitely you need to see a compilation of their bests scenes of Snatch Game because there are so many good onesss
I think featuring either of BenDeLaCreme's appearances would be a great followup and masterclass!
this is iconic
Side note, when queens use the names of the actor/actress/person, like The Vivienne did, is because they can't (or are advise) to not use the character names for copyright purposes. It happens a lot when is obvious they want to do the character but name it like the performer.
YES i love drag race and its so great to see people reacting to it :D
Especially when they're people who cover other content too. More exposure
Loved the video!! Very funny and informative. Completely slipped my mind on how much improv goes into the snatch games. ✨subscribed ✨
Highly recommend tearing apart the season 6 snatch game; two legendary performances and two absolute trainwrecks
Wow, what an incredible video to get some insight on why and how some performances are great or bad! Loved it, great job!
More videos looking at other Snatch Games would definetly be welcome! I'd love to see an analysis on Uk vs The World season 1 Snatch Game, as it has probably my favorite performance of them all (Baga Chipz as Kathy Bates in Misery) and some pretty underwhelming performances too to look at. But really, any more videos you do on this are going to be greaattt!
pls we want you to watch every snatch game now!!
My favorite snatch game performance of all time is Nina Bonina doing Jasmine Masters lol
Ru sets them all up so well for success with the questions
You should do Dimension20 Dungeons and Drag Queens!
I'd love to see ur break down of Bendela's appearances on snatch game. To this day I still didn't get over the "Excuse me, we invented the language!" line 😂
That was improv at its finest, cause it was in reaction to someone who wasn’t really throwing low hanging fruit…quite the quick wit!
Season 4 snatch game has the most chaotic ones in all of drag race. All Stars 2 is probably the best. All Stars 4 has some great and terrible ones. Season 13 is one of the best ones among the normal seasons.
I love it , you should do the lasts snatch games as the years pass they keep getting funnier
Can’t wait to see more drag race reactions.
More drag race would be amazing, loved this!
This is great content. I would watch you react to every single improv challenge ever on Drag Race, no joke! Just subscribed. 🤗
I honestly thoughtwhen I first saw this, the boogeyman was a connection to the Powerpuff girls boogeyman lol
Cause it is!!!!!
I found Trinity's Lucifer to be just such an obvious choice? Like it was cohesive for sure and there were funny moments but every joke was SO obvious, there was never anything I wouldn't have anticipated. Whereas say Monet's Mike Tyson was funny but I wasn't expecting "penis-cillian" as an answer 😅
Jinkx is my favorite queen of all. I'd also love to see you react to some of Jimbo's comedy on the various franchises Jimbo has bern in.
I think the recent Season 16 Snatch Game is a good exemple of very good performances (Plane, Safira) and some real trainwrecks (Xunami, Nymphia)
Honestly, season 16's snatch game is not very good. Basically only Plane and Sapphira nail it, we have the aforementioned flops Xunami, Nymphia, but everyone else was barely there or forgettable. I remember Q's Amelia Earhart being very similar to the Brick character, Dawn is barely there, and when she is she is flat, Plasma is barely there for no reason, and honestly, Mhi'ya was not that funny. Oh and Morhpine was just eh.
The really great performances may have older references that younger viewers may not get, but they sell the characters anyway with smarts and brilliant comedy
Keep going girl. I think I'm funny around my close friend group but there's no way I'd be able to do snatch game. It's harder than people think it is.
Jada's Prince is an all-time favorite it's so endearingly dumb and not at all necessary to analyze
please make this a series i love your reaction to the snatch game as an improvisor thank you
In regards to Yvie’s Rico Nasty. There’s a reason why the most attempted character in Snatch Game ever (with all the international seasons) is Cardi B and there has not been a single one that has been good.
Trying to exaggerate an already extreme personality that some perceive as grating is asking for an audience to want your character to get off the stage or screen. (Let alone if you can’t channel the natural charisma someone like Cardi B does have). You either go too far and come across very obnoxious, don’t go far enough and feel like a lacking impersonation… it’s a recipe for disaster, time and time again.
It’s why the “unlikeable b*tch” is such a hard character to nail in improv challenges, and why I give SO much credit to Kahanna Montrese for doing such a good job in the All Stars 8 improv challenge.
I'd love a series on this!
Yvie Oddly's sex symbol Boogeyman was so underrated.
For a snatch game that showcases highs and lows, Season 15 (part 2 specifically) might be good. Loosey’s Joan is amazing, but Sugar and Spice… well, they tried. Could be good to cover?
Please do more of these!
i would LOVE to see you react to season 14's snatch game
HELPP 😭😭😭
Press the space bar instead of looking for play/pause or just press anywhere on the screen and it’ll pause
Thank you for the video! I'd love to see reactions to some of the "worst" snatch game performances and maybe tips on how they could've improved the performance!
please make this a series!
You stopped too soon !!! Jinx added an improv right after !!!!
i cant believe you closed it before the last song! will have to go rewatch it again now
