I have a male FRIEND since high school, when my mother was living she treated him like a son. He and one of my now deceased sisters won class best dancers. He introduced his wife to me and my family. We are still FRIENDS today and we have always looked at each other as a sister and brother and his wife looks at me as her sister. Platonic friendships do occur.
I agree 💯 one of my best friends for 40 years is a male and he will always be just and only that! His wife loves me and my husband him it’s a shame so many people think with there crotches and think a male and female can’t just always be friends!!!

I had a guy who were platonic friends when I was younger. I believed that it would always remain that way. I was sure he would never ask me out, as I was not his type. It was clear from the women he dated that it was the same woman (physical appearance), different name, and I was the complete opposite. I was shocked one day when he expressed interest in dating. I declined though as I knew him too well as a friend. He was the guy to move from relationship to relationship so I just did not trust in that expression of interest. Sure enough he was back to his type a short while later. We stayed friends a bit but I kept some more distance, then when he married I stepped back and only check up once in a while, or just reach out at least once a year on the birthday.

To be fair, I know a couple who have been extremely happily married for like 45-50 years, and it was a similar situation. Of course she lost the friendship, but she gained an amazing husband, a couple of children (one of them a gorgeous lawyer who did modeling), beautiful grandchildren, and a lifetime full of love and happiness which surpasses the friendship she had. I also know a young couple, same story, and they are happy and have been dating longer than the previous relationship. Unless the friend is a true friend, like someone who has been there for you in good and bad, who has helped you in the worst moments of your life, who gives you amazing advice, and who truly loves you, then I'd say dating the guy is fine because everyone involved is single. Only if the friend is truly that close and good of a friend to the point that losing that friendship would be a horrible mistake, then go for it.

Physical attraction comes in different styles and shapes. Emotional attachments are a product of personalities and similarities. Every relationship has boundaries and limitations. It is not unusual for male/female relationships to change boundaries as people mature. I personally wouldn't be bothered if my ex and friend got together. There'd have to be a noticeable break after our breakup and their getting together though. It would look suspicious if they got together within a week or month of us breaking up. If it's months later though, I wouldn't care because an ex is an ex for a reason!
