  • My father was my biggest supporter. Fathers, sometimes our children just need that one moment of our support to guide them in the right direction or launch their dreams. Here's a story of how my father did that for me. Happy Father's Day!

I remember in my senior year a bunch of friends and I were talking about what college we’re going to. When I said I am going to Rutgers, the teacher looked at me and said “YOU’RE going to college?” She gave this incredible look of disbelief.
I thought of her when I got my HS diploma. And my bachelors. And my masters. And my doctorate!

I had no support. Got thrown out at 16 from a broken home. My father had already moved on with a new wife and kids. Sometimes i spent months not even talking to someone sleeping with a knife under my bed because of multiple breakins.
35 years old now. 60 k a year, wife and kids and bought my own house just a month ago.
How did I do it? I used their hate to fuel me, I believed in myself because I had nothing and no one else to belive in.
I literally believed If eveything went to shit id just end my life. With nothing to loose you are willing to do anything. So as long as you only have yourself to loose try everything and do everything you want.

I was raised by a single mother. To this day always tells me, "if you had listened to me you could have been working in I. T. Despite me playing football, cricket and athletics to a very high level by the age of 16. It was my dream to be involved in sports. Now I am a strength and conditioning coach for a men's football team. The closest thing I could find after a lifetime of someone killing my dream. Don't let anyone, not even your parents, kill your dream. I'm so happy for Steve he had someone like this in his life. Everyone deserves to have that person in their corner.

I’ve watched this video numerous times and it never fails to break me down like a baby. The reason it does that is because I think about a conversation I had with my dad when I was a junior in high school. By this time, I was certain that I was going into the military. My father told me I would get my college degree. At the time, I felt he was just being a comforting parent, but when I got out of the Army, he was insisting that I go to college. I did get my degree because my father pushed me to do so. My dad passed away almost nine years ago, just before my wife and I got married. Fathers, encourage your sons, in particular. You never know the affect that it could have on their lives.

My mother was my “dream killer” in high school… and it saved my life. I am in debt to her sensibilities & how she mother my brother & I.
I wanted to move to Nashville, get in the music scene, study business at Belmont & just work in the business. Idk, it’s what I wanted at the time. My dad was my biggest supporter, but my mom did not like the idea at all.
Looking back, they were both helpful in different ways. I am so grateful that I listened to my mom lol, bc there were so many blessings that came my way the next following years that I would’ve missed out on, had I moved. Even before that, I did not feel peace. And my ass was almost out the door preparing for college. My Mom saved my life. I would’ve been so stressed out & miserable probably that I probably wouldn’t have even finished anyway. I most likely would’ve come back home & wasted a bunch of money. Your parents are your biggest supporters, but not always in the way you think it should be.

Man, let me tell you something. My dad passed away from cancer in '09. I am the oldest of 3. My sister went and got her Masters degree. My brother spent 8 years in the navy. Me? I had a full scholarship but only spent 2 years in college. Instead, I ended up getting a job that ended up being a good trade for me. Fairly good pay and longevity. Anyway, I didn't find this out until just recently. My dad had a separate meeting with each of us. He told my sister that as long as you keep giving me lemons I will just keep making lemonade. That made me feel so good knowing that I made him proud. And FYI-someone asked my youngest niece, she will be 12 in May '21, who was the strongest person she knows. Without hesitation, she said physically her older sister. However, she said emotionally and mentally, me. I truly believe my dad may have whispered in her ear that day.

This is the most powerful and inspiring testimony Steve ever mentioned from his many TV episodes in my view. I have a 11 year old Son and he's come a long way in his growth & development. I wish to inspire him to dream and be what he wants to be in life. Thanks very much Uncle Steve and God Bless you more and more. You made a grown shed a few tears

Shit hurt me. Wish my dad supported me like this. My confidence would’ve been through the ROOF.
