    Just passed my network+ a couple days ago. Feeling a lot more confident in my knowledge of or at least understanding what is generally being talked about. Thanks again for these videos theyre a great resource for real life application.

      I know the feeling. When I got hired at my current job (K-12 IT) the previous network admin gave me an overview of how the internet and network works. It was an amazing amount of cool information. I knew the general networking concepts from when I took a few Cisco courses, but it was amazing seeing how it all works. And 4.5 years later, I'm still amazed at how it works.

    God bless Scott! Thanks for sharing real world networking with us. I love your series. Not a huge fan of GUIs, but those simple firewall diagnostic tools do come in handy in these situations. I'm excited for your post crowdstrike summary. Much love, have a great week!

    Our Palo’s are similar with Ae interfaces and all the nessesary internal and external vlans. We’re using 10gig optics. We are thankful that the colocation facility dropped off two cat6 cables for Internet, each goes to an upstream router (somewhere in their facility) and between those routers they use HSRP so Internet works off of either cable and they can update / reboot their upstream router one at a time with no downtime to us. So with the two cables they dropped in our rack we took one to each switch. We did reboot a switch and tested all was good.
    Before we were in the colo we had something similar here but we had two isps on one switch and a third on another switch.

    • @NetworkAdminLife
      @NetworkAdminLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Geez, I wish *we* had 10G interfaces. :-) But yes, it's nice to be able to upgrade firmware in switches without having everyone wait for you to finish. God bless!

    • @NetworkAdminLife
      @NetworkAdminLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, we've all got those little traumas locked up inside. Like when I was first learning about ethernet in the early 90's and manually assigned 127.0.0.1 to my ethernet card. God bless!

    Question, when the Primary firewall has traffic that it wants to send out to the internet, does it send it through both ports on the MLT, or does it only send it through one of the ports? Little confused on how the MLT works. I know as far as the firewall is aware, it sees it as single interface. However I am curious as to what the physical path of the packet looks like. (Basically which cable its traveling through).

    • @NetworkAdminLife
      @NetworkAdminLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Man, oh, man... There is an algorithm dedicated to choosing which path the data will take. We spent almost a half day talking about it in one of the classes I took several years ago and I forgot how it works exactly. But there is a method to the madness. You'll just have to press the "I believe" button for now. I'm sure there's a TH-cam video on it. God bless!

  • @bradwilmot5066
    @bradwilmot5066 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    OK, stupid question time... What happens if the WAN1 switch goes down? It seems to me that with the only path from the ISP is to WAN1, there's no redundancy, so why have 2 switches and multiple MLTs...

    • @NetworkAdminLife
      @NetworkAdminLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don't show it in the diagram and I should have. WAN2 also has an ISP connection from a different ISP. So as long as either WAN1 or WAN2 are up, and the primary or backup FW is up, we will have an Internet connection. God bless!

    Happens to the best of us.
    Personally I am not a fan of DTP having the network auto assign vlans is scary to me as one mistake wipes an entire vlan from the network.
    I always preferred manually spanning my vlans.
    Worst I ever did was trust a spreadsheet we were using to track network allocations. Failed to check the router to see what was already in place and accidentally added a more specific route on the back half of an already existing network.
    Won't make that mistake again lol.

    • @NetworkAdminLife

    Great video. Did you setup bgp on the firewall side for the internet connection?

    • @NetworkAdminLife
      @NetworkAdminLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No but it is configured upstream at our overlord's ISP connection. They serve as our ISP in a manner of speaking. So we just take on of two paths to get there. Two WAN links from two different carriers to two different ISPs upstream. Those routers do have BGP configured on them. God bless!

    I’m a SysAdmin right now and aspire to be a network admin in the next year or so. But correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t your network already have two ISP’s? What would be the benefit of another provider besides more redundancy/HA?
