My understanding as a fellow OM-90 owner is that Czech manufacturer produces multiple variants of this mask - both the military-pattern OM-90 (with two independent military-style eyeports for sighting weapons) and civilian-pattern CM-7M (with a one-piece industrial-style eyeplate for better peripheral vision) - but the masks are otherwise identical and use the same shell, diaphragms, drinking system, etc. I suspect the third-party safety equipment reseller is mistakenly applying the civilian-pattern designation to military-pattern masks, explaining the confusion. Maybe their ordering system just has them backwards.
Hi there, the mask with a single visor is called OM-2020, re-sold by MIRA Safety as CM-8M. We recently released a full review of that one as well, feel free to watch it.
I feel like it could be a pretty good mask with only a few simple modifications. A 6 point harness, a softer orinasal cup, and a softer inner face seal. I've personally never had problems getting a seal on my size 2 masks, even with short facial hair. But wearing it for long periods of time puts a lot of pressure and pain on my forehead and bridge of nose/sinuses. I feel like a 6 point harness alone would help relieve that pressure by providing a more even weight distribution. Also make the solid black plastic lens housing clear like on the S10 it was inspired by. This would slightly improve field of view, while keeping the same design. Also add the small ridge around the lenses the S10 has, so it can actually keep outserts securely attached, instead of just falling off like they do with the current design.
Just a few hours ago, someone from Avon wrote a comment under a teaser for this review on LinkedIn: "A very poor copy of Avon’s ground breaking S10 Respirator" I never tried the S10 respirator yet, although we have two FM12s and that one kicks the hell out of OM-90 in every conceivable way. And we're talking about a gas mask that has been discontinued and replaced a while ago. Thanks for your educated input, I'm glad to have people like you sharing experience and opinions!
It's a shame because I think the OM-90 is a really cool looking mask. It looks especially cool with S10 outserts on the lenses, too. I just wish it was more comfortable. I've worn my S10 for 2 hours with a relatively heavy filter and I barely noticed I was wearing it. But the same filter in the OM-90 gets uncomfortable in only 30-40 minutes. But like I said, it would only take some tiny changes to improve the OM-90 by a massive amount. I don't own an FM12, but from what I can tell it will be almost the same as the S10. The biggest difference is the harness is rubber on the S10 and fabric on the FM12.
I was about to comment when you introduced it as the cm7m I'm glad you didn't keep that up lol, I was very surprised to learn they outright encourage two filters at once youd think they would know basic respirator safety and not encourage something that seems outright dangerous. Lovely video very insightful. Do you know if or when you'll do another things that can get you killed?
Twin filters are used in some military context (as instance instructors in gas chamber, witht the US M40, or S10 ... among others), or hazmat CBRN emergency.
It's good to get an expert's opinion on this mask, thank you. I received one of these for free and it works well with my face, good to know that it's a little outdated but not a piece of junk. Is there an official spectacle kit for these from Gumarny Zubri? I haven't been able to find any information on one.
Obviously as the OM-90 is nothing to write home about. You can imagine how much money MIRA Safety funneled into its marketing to persuade people it's actually better than it actually is.
Ebay is full of cheap OM-90s as they cost under 100 bucks. You can get it cheaper in the Czech republic of course but shipping to you would also cost a considerable sum.
Are you able to clear the gas mask? What I mean is in Bootcamp you are taught to put your mask on and then cover the exhaust with your hand and blow air out to get rid of the contaminated air inside the mask. Based on the looks of its design it looks like you are unable to clear the mask like many Soviet gas masks.
A very good point, so let me explain! When you watch our tutorial on how to use a gas mask, or any gas mask review of ours, I always tell people to exhale sharply after donning, which is a way of clearing. The reason is that many gas masks don't have the exhalation chamber located the way Avon masks do, so in many cases it's not as easy to cover it effectively. That's why I'm always doing clearing the way I do to show people a more universal method. It's not something I made up, it's a regular clearing procedure in many armies that use other than Avon respirators.
Yeah, OM-2020. The thing is I made a testing of the thing for the Czech company and it was very bad which of course didn't stop MIRA from selling it even though they knew about the shortcomings. They however invested considerable effort into me not speaking about it. There have been some changes implemented as far as I know and we certainly could make a review about it but it's an essentially flawed product on many levels. If OM-90 is meh, OM-2020 is ten times worse.
@@Monz117 If you can't try out various respirators, it's hard to tell the difference between them. Especially people with no prior experience and that's what MIRA counts on. You can't go wrong with Avon C50, we made a pretty comprehensive review about that one. It's a night and day difference and many people who followed my advice are content with what they got. I'm not shilling a product, I'm just saying what's objectively better.
@cbrnacademy I watched the video on the c50, and am very excited to see the difference from the om90 I got from Mira a few years back. Was just going to get the "cm8m" until I found your channel. I can tell that you're not schilling for companies, and I greatly appreciate it, as I'm definitely one without experience in the arena, and I definitely was falling for the marketing. @@cbrnacademy well that's a shame. The fm12 will always have a special place in my heart. I've just realised I may live to see the fm12 become an antique I can't wait to see what gasmasks are like in 50-60 years
True, but not hundreds of dollars worth of scary. In our last year's Halloween special we reviewed Soviet PRV-U and that's one hell of a scary gas mask.
CM-8M review is currently in post-production, coming out sooner than you think. CM-6M is OK-ish and it's more like any other industrial respirator these days. Their PAPR is rather simple but it gets the job done. Nothing out of ordinary as there are tens of similar blowers on the market.
@@cbrnacademy would you say that their PAPR is a good choice or would you recommend something else? what do you think about the various filters they produce or distribute? I assume you’re gonna recommend I get a Mask from Avon but are there any other (new only) masks you recommend?
@@gwydionrusso3206 The thing with CBRN gear in general is that most companies don't offer their products to civilian marked, hence where MIRA Safety has an upper hand. I guess the PAPR is good enough, I never had it or tested it as I own C420 from SafetyTech. Filters should be solid as they are also made by a Czech company. And no, you don't have much to choose from. Personally, if I were to buy a gas mask for example, I would look for a new, unsealed one on Ebay or similar online markets. MIRA masks are unbelievable overpriced as all the models from GuZu can be obtained in Europe for around 130€. Especially the CM-8M.
Absolutely horrifying company with subpar quality products and even worse working conditions. These guys outsource cheap material and work with low-income Russians/Ukrainians. Stay the hell away from these fools.

No idea. I don't consider MIRA's third-party gadgets relevant but if someone sends us stuff for testing and reviewing, we wouldn't say no.

do a video on the FM-11 gas mask
looks similar to the S10 and FM12, was this a common trend in design??
