My dad drove in the lower series in the early days of NASCAR. I drove a few races in 2010, but I wasn't great at the stock car style. I can hold my own on road tracks like Mid-Ohio, but oval tracks are a lot tougher than they look. The banking is absolutely insane and eats a ton of power and will suck you up and in.

I really wanted to see an F-1 fan watch something like this. I've never been much of a racing fan, but this video gives me good old fashioned american pride. We race cause we need booze. We purposefully ram vehicles while racing. We build gigantic concrete arenas so stock cars can drive as fast as open wheel cars while weighing twice as much.

This guy is very pessimistic about NASCAR's fandom, While race attendance is down, it still rates very well on TV compared to the other non-football sports. Regular races outrate regular NBA and MLB games, and NASCAR rating have not suffered as much as NBA ratings in the last year. Its not where it was at its height, but it is much healthier than professional basketball, which is hemorrhaging fans at unprecedented rates.

    • @NolmDirtyDan

Im sorry, im a fan of both, and just because NBA is losing fans, doesn't mean there isn't still probably 100x more NBA fans than Nascar fans, and thats nothing against Nascar, its just not as popular. I never liked Nascar, but I loved Dale.. The races just seemed too long and boring for my liking.
I prefer the dirt track ones with stock/modded and sprint cars. Can't remember exactly what they call those kinds of cars.. They're more like how Nascar racing used to be in the old days. The races are shorter, and there's more chaos, and usually drifting around the turns.
We have a couple of local dirt tracks in my area. My dad's cousin used to race in them, and eventually started running the track. They're fun to watch, and a fun place to hang out. Especially when you're a single teen. 👀 Lol

2 reasons: It's Currently a "Rich Boy" club and the fanbase's closemindedness (Yes, This is important)
The reason why it was Stock Car Racing was because back in the day, you just bought a car, souped it up, and took it to the track. A lot of the previous generation of drivers were from blue collar families and didn't have a whole lot. The bit of spending cash they earned, they invested into their car.
Now, because the sport is more set: to break in as a driver, you gotta have a lot of track time, which costs money. You need to have the cars to practice on, which costs money. If you want to enter a car, It costs a shit ton of money. It's what F1 is now just sons of millionaires and billionaires with ennui looking for a rush because they can afford it.
and 2) The racist fans. Half of the fun of a sporting event is going to see it live. Interacting with people, cheering on "your team" or "your guy" But when it feels like 90% of the fan base is flying the Confederate Flag while wearing MAGA hats, throwing around the N word and F word (slur for gay people) I do not feel welcomed. And yes, I'm sure if I go in, they'd hand me a beer and show me Southern Hospitality, but to them, I'm just "one of the good ones"
That's my issue. I would love to go to Talladega or Daytona and cheer along side, but I don't like the chances of not getting a beer bottle thrown at my head while cheering on a 2nd or 3rd gen driver who's worth 30 million dollars calling themselves the salt of the Earth

It's the NASCAR Org. itself that's shooting itself in the foot. NASCAR back in the day was fun to watch, but today there's so many Stifling rules and the cars used has no approximation to autos we use, even older ones, it is supposed to be STOCK CAR Racing, there was an old saying, you race on Sunday, sell on Monday. Today it's Race on Sunday, So-What afterward. Lifetime Fan, no longer hardly even know who's winning.

People think nascar is simple and requires no skill but there is nothing simple at 200 mph or 321 kph.

Dale Earnhardt #3 😓 I’m a NASCAR fan, no shame here. Attendance starting falling off when the COT-Car of Tomorrow-was introduce taking away the individuality of the different makes of cars. France has made one mistake after the next since then pretty telling NASCAR fans that they were trying to appeal to a new fan base leaving the old fans behind. The new fans didn’t materialize or if they did they didn’t stick around long but the original NASCAR fans went back to the dirt tracks that are like ole time NASCAR races. I love our local dirt tracks. France has said the Car of Tomorrow was the biggest mistake he ever made-the drivers didn’t even like it-and has introduced a new car but whatever most fans say. Time will tell what happens from here.

You should react to some March madness moments. (Disclaimer: March Madness is a 64-team basketball tournament....lots of crazy upsets happen. Even more crazy fan reactions.)

Yep 👍, Dale Earnhardt was the BOSS an absolute Legand in Nascar!!!
After his death it was really hard to watch NASCAR WITH& certainly less interesting and popular for the majority of Nascar Fans.
I was watching Dale in the race when he was killed. Lot of people pretty well knew Dale was dead or at least permanently crippled up the moment we saw him reck.
But was still devastating to ALL when it was finally reported to the public🥲.
    RIP DALE

Beesly, if you go to a race, I think you would like it. Go to a short track or even a road course.

Hell go to a local dirt track race. They happen every weekend in the summer and it's not hard to find a track anywhere in the US. It's not very expensive and you'll get to see three to four different classes of cars. It's one of my favorite things to do in the summer, even though nascar has a race in my state. I usually have more fun at the dirt track races.

NASCAR was great to see growing up I remember watching the race that Earnhardt died in. When my favorite driver Jeff Gordon stopped racing and NASCAR had made these new rules with heat races I stopped watching. It is a shell of what it use to be. Nascar has forgotten it’s roots.

Great video!! It’s true that NASCAR has lost the majority of it’s fans in the last few years. (Over a 50% drop in viewership between 2015 and 2019 according to Sports Media Watch). Most longtime fans have fallen away because (in their own words) they’ve decided to focus on being in the entertainment business and not the sporting business. This has also caused new fans to not come in because, as we all know, it’s die hard fans that introduce the sports they love new people. So, they’ve sort of shot themselves in the foot. It will never be popular like it once was in it’s current form.
