I would say that although James doesn't use presets, or recycle the same sounds, he does have a distinct approach to songwriting and production that shines through in all of his work, so I would imagine his collaborators have at least some idea of what they're going to get before they choose to work with him. Great interview, James is an intelligent and thoughtful person and I'm glad Anthony gave him the time to communicate his ideas.
I dare to say that what makes Blake that brilliant is just the way he plays in a unusual way with production - he blows my mind with his vision of using samples with a creative way. We live in a time where sampling some ways could be so boring and he comes with a nice surprise like "Where's The Catch?" He's unique as a artist. I always say to everyone that is like he didn't decide to paint, and his songs are like paintings.
i think he means more like, he doesnt have a specific preset / drum kit etc that he's set to always use (yk thats why theyre "pre"-sets), i think he probably... does use synth presets lol
James is such a lovely person and honestly one of the greatest voices of his time. What a legend, and personally “friends who break your heart” is my favorite album of this year, strong 10 for me.
I've listened to James Blakes music through some really rough times in my life. He seems like such a humble and thoughtful guy in his interviews. Could listen to him talk forever.
Tell ya what's nice about Fantano. He puts himself out there and he doesn't hide behind written words in an article. He's not always been the biggest fan of James' output but he just has a pleasant conversation and he's opening himself up to the musicians who he talks about in his videos, sometimes good, sometimes bad. It's commendable.
What the hell! I literally just looked up 'fantanto james blake interview' an hour ago to check if you had interviewed him before. And you upload this an hour later!!
@@diegomo1413 drink champs was funny lol, better than something like joe rogan at least. you'd just need to ask more music-focused questions as he did show he could revisit parts of his career and talk about the behind-the-scenes process
i’m like james, i write from mostly negative experiences. but the music evokes so much emotion. not much to write about when the day is good and everything is fine and nothing is wrong.
Booked to see James live during this interview. They mention the turnover in the music industry right now. It made me that it's easy to forget how thoughtful and humble James is.
Gatdamn I missed the stream again. Either way, happy to see Anthony get to cut it up with more and more musicians and personalities like Danny Brown and James Blake
he’s been one of my favorite performers his sequencing / selection of songs are really smooth on top of that his voice sounds just as good live you’ll love it!
thought the conversation about drake/kanye was unnecessarily long. i enjoy your interviews however i feel like booking an artist to interview and then spend a chunk of it monologing your opinion about another artists’ albums is counter productive to the outcome you’re hoping to get with your interviewee
I don't think James realizes that the reason people question the Jameela credits is not because she's a woman, but because none of her public work surrounds music. Nobody said women aren't allowed to produce, just typically actors don't randomly get production credits on commercial records.
His first 3 albums though.. I dont want to compare them but.. the new ones are a bit more on the pop side, not as adventurous and unique as the previous ones. I really love James.. and idk I just had to say this.. :)
With the Fantano is moving it’s only a matter of time before Anthony interviews Ye

he definitely samples himself a lot which I think is actually brilliant! Fall Creek Choir sampled his Case of You cover, etc.

You should interview Disclosure! Guy Lawrence, from disclosure, does twitch all the time so it would be pretty straightforward.
The thing about someone like james is that he expresses himself infinately better and more deeply through his music. Words just dont do him justice
anthony you can’t just review silk sonic’s new album for 57 minutes and call it a james blake interview

60% of this interview is melon's heavy breathing
Our boy Fantano is out here working hard at the moment. Loving the recent interviews. 🗿

I feel like James Blake reads the comments. I love this guy and his music

Came to TH-cam to find an interview on James’ recent work and didn’t think I’d find something this good.

Great interview, Anthony. Knocking out of the park of late.
This interview started so real so fast. I thought I had accidentally skipped mid way through the video, I was at 2 minutes.
First Danny Brown, now this!? Melon never ceases to amaze me
In the end, it was Fantano who broke my heart :(

true but she studied music and was a DJ for many years. i think the other reason why people ask is because they’re in a relationship
I feel like fantano didn’t know what “I feel like that” was when James mentioned it
I'm back. You know it. Too good of a video
