I don't believe in condolences for this case. its such an old scam that at this point if you fall for it, that's on you. So many reputable traders have their own sites now so there really is no excuse to getting phished anymore.

I dont why valve doesnt add like a "safe" for your inventory. That guy probably wasnt going to trade/sell those skins for a long time, there should be an option to put an un removable trade lock on an item for an amount of time you decide. Or just add a secondary password field thats unique from your steam password.

Don't people know that if you log into steam on browser, what ever legit site you are trying to log in it shows "log in as ...". On scam sites it doesn't give you the option never, you have to log in manually.

Support will not return his skins to him 99% since they were doing that before and that lead people to dupe skins through steam support. So if you heard about HFB’s scam and how skins were returned to him this is not happening again. It was an exception.

happened to me way back in 2020. got scammed 2k USD by a fake bitskins site. Apparently, upon checking, steam didn't block the account till now. Emailed the support for about 5x already.

About half the money was from getting lucky with cases, and later in the year I got even more lucky with free cases but that's besides the point. Looking back on those scams it's embarrassing I fell for them cause there were so many red flags and just things that scream scam. I did learn from it though.

Even if he did, since the items are well known a lot of people won’t buy them because they know they were scammed so cashing out will still be really difficult

Well, the traders must have seen the sign with: "this user may not be trusted" when trading it (or something like that). Valve never put a high price on skins, the community did and that created all this hate and dumb shit. Even I (60$ daggers and no more) would never send of my knife to a stranger lvl 1 ACC. I don't even trust all the skinsites. How can a person just pass on 24K skin to a sketchy account lol. I learned not to trust people on the internet by losing 15$ once on a scam-gamblesite.
He didn't send the skins himself. He clicked on the phishing link and lost his items that way. Still a stupid mistake but he did not trade those items to a level 1 account himself.

For crying out loud Valve add skin insurance packs to the store page of cs i dont even care if its 50$ a year. Acquired skins should be locked on the recieving account for a 1 week period which will be extended indefinitely in case a report is filed until a thorough investigation comes to a conclusion. If there was foul play involved ban the recieving account and trade the skins back to the original owner.

If you're not sure of a link related to trading would it be wise to check the link out with a burner account with Sand dunes or something. Unless you can work with a good trader.
