Jay, just popping in to say...been watching you for a year or two, and just saw that you commented on one of my videos 😊 i was so surprised, like a celebrity stopped by! Lol...thanks for your encouraging and kind words. Your gardens have been so inspiring to me. I added a ton of roses to my garden in large part because of your videos. Ps loved the Queen story...
Hi there vickie, yes I don’t know how I come about your channel but was pleased I did. You come across extremely well and have a fantastic garden to boot. Keep uploading I will look forward to seeing your content. Your garden will stop people in there tracks I’ve zero doubt. :)
Paul's Himalayan Musk, I had it growing in my hedge and it was an absolute thug. I cut it to the ground hoping it would die but it sent up 20 massive new shoots. Mine also gets black spot, but hopefully no more as I intend to put an end to it, eventually. It's roots probably go down to Australia 😅. Another great video, interesting stuff, thank you.
Ah I love your garden tours ! You have so many different roses, It helped me get a better idea of some roses, how they develop etc. I have some DA roses in common with you; Desdemona (bare root from this winter) is impressive, they started to bloom early and they just never stop, and the hues on it are breathtaking. But I do adore my Boscobel that I have since last year !
Greetings from Ireland, Beautiful roses. We have one peony rose in our garden no thorns great we get along. My mother is eighty seven and she has lots of the thorny fuppers around her flower beds. I call down every weekend to look after her flower beds, I like gardening naked oh sorry I meant I don't wear gloves never have and never will. There have been times when I'm weeding around them I thought Id end up in A&E
Well done to you for helping your mum. I’m sure she appreciates it. Yes it’s very naughty I dont wear gloves either I go bare back. NOT to be recomended as disease or infection can set in and be very serious to our health. But I like to feel the resistance of the stems. The only time I wear gloves is usually gauntlets if I’m tackling brambles etc. but that is very naughty from both of us.
So pleased to subscibe to your garden tours, have only just joined the D.Austin fan club and what a year to get my first four roses, high winds, and deluges lost veg and box hedging due to this ,and now have made best freinds with a spikey madame called Harlow Carr who attacks me with these horrendous thorns and she lives in a huge urn by the back door! Best Wishes to you all and wonderful hound.
Hi there and thanks. Harlow Carr is a rose I dont have but yes I have seen it and it’s lovely. Best of luck with your new roses and yes the weather hasn’t been great this year (or last year for that matter) but they still do well given half a chance. Thanks for dropping by :) 🌹🌹🌹🌷🌹🌹🌹
Was this today? Sun and warmth? It's been miserably grey and chilly in the west. Seeing that wonderful display along the roadside I thought you'd posted a video from last summer again! You certainly have had a bad time with the rabbits, but as you say that should be coming to an end now. My Sweet Honeys are taking over the flowerbed again, and I'm sure yours will be soon too. Desdemona is great in the sun, but on a gloomy day she shines out like a beacon of cheerfulness. You've got a lot of buds there, just bursting to burst out! Next month should be spectacular!
Sorry to hear you had rubbish weather nik. Yes that was mine today. We had a lovely day. We have seen rain the past week or so but today it was nice. Yes the rabbits have much food around them now in the hedgerows and fields etc venturing into gardens is risky for them. :) cheers nik
I always love your tours Jay Jay and your roses are looking a damn sight better than mine as they took a battering from the high winds and torrential rain that we've had over the last two days. I've just been out to take off all the smashed blooms. Thankfully there's still lots of buds to come. I'm so pleased that your netting has kept the rabbits off your lovely roses but there's always one that gets the better of you .He looks like he doesn't give a damn. Your garden looks fab and look at Seanie on his sunlounger making the most of the weather.
The lovely Wendy. Glad to hear that at least you have many buds to come. Try and look on the bright side your roses would have toughen some during the storms. Any breakages they will come again. Yes Seanie is spoilt. :) lovely to hear from you as always and hope your basking in sunshine now :)
😮😮 love it gorgeous Roses Garden tour . David Austin Roses look wonderful colour so sweet romantic flowers i think 😊 ❤❤ thank you so much 🙏 enjoy watching until the end 28:18
Hi Jay Jay! I saw this post but very busy at the moment in the garden but I’m happy that I have something interesting to watch in my TV later in the evening.😍
@@Jay_JayA lovely tour! The roses Olivia Austin and PAOk are stunning. It’s good that you feed all the roses. I’m sure the rest of them will have their show soon.🌹
Here in Germany the Kordes Roses are later than DA too. I love your color combination so much Jay! Always a joy to watch your videos. And such an inspiration. 👍😍
Garden is looking gorgeous Jay Jay , thanks for the update of Uncle Tom's, and looks that you are being blessed with a huge amount of more roses observing all those buds:)
Hi gez, and thanks. Have to say I’m liking the uncle toms a lot. But keep an eye. I’ll defo be using next year even if diluted further. Best of luck with yours.
Ok will be careful, I note you had some burn on the leaves, I have only just started, I will in light of your experience dilute it further. I seem to recall another product that is similar that has a ratio that is less in dilution. I think it was on "mycuterosegarden"
My roses in south England look amazing and I’ve the best tan already . Been gardening daily . I’m gonna prune Sweden as she’s leggy . Dannuhue has 20 roses it looks stunning. It’s only a year in the ground . Desdemona also is stunning, Your roses look great 😊, black spot is inevitable I find .
Wow your garden is wonderful, the bunny made me chuckle, what would you recommend for black spot, my Warm Welcome is covered in it, the rise you gifted my students us covered in buds, a little colour peeking through
Yay pottager the sweet honey is performing I was hoping it would. Blackspot, In your lovely garden I wouldn’t overly worry about black spot. Your garden has so much character to carry it. And that’s me being honest. You could deleaf it strip it back bare and new foilage will come through in 2 or 3 weeks. Then keep an eye on it maybe spray it with uncle toms fortnightly or some say neem oil. But honestly in your garden with all those plants, nooks and crannies I wouldn’t worry. :)
@@hungariancottageadventure77 it must be bad. Ok deleaf it of any black spot then wait for new growth to come through then I would spray on half dosage the fresh new foilage. But whatever you do don’t stress over it, your garden has the character to carry it. My garden is full of roses and when it’s full of blackspot it shows like a brick going through a window. :)
I never realize that all my Kordes roses are the latest to start until today 😂yes! It’s true! Half of my garden roses are in blossom now but Kordes friends are still forming buds. I used to blame the light condition. Thank you for the video. It’s always nice to see your garden, the walk and the thought. Have a nice weekend!
Haha yes I think the kordes flower just a little later I think. Summer romance is also another one to flower very early I think, but if conditions aren’t good it’s a little lame but it flowers still regardless ;) thanks hina
Hi there. Yes the mesh laid flat and folded or layered just having it an inch or two above the soil it worked well for me. But remember it’s a deterrent. They don’t like walking on it but if they are that hungry they will do anything including eating anything that’s been sprayed with stuff they dislike. But this mesh worked for me. Off putting enough for them to look elsewhere. Thanks for the kind words.
Oh my word, that Olivia Rose is insane! I think most of your roses look great considering the rabbit banditos & the cold snap. We had a "hot snap" which confused everyone & then rain, rain, rain for weeks, not heavy, just wet (as rain often is, duh!). But now I think all rain is past & it is 60's/70's & my roses are getting going. Angel Face & Distant Drums were first, sorry your Distant Drums didn't bush out, but mine is the same---one or 2 canes w/spectacular flowers that last forever. My 3 Cadfael's that I got in April from David Austin are leafed out & bushy with a few buds, looking happy, yours is probabking about having been moved & I'm sure he will get with the program---not usually an early bloomer. And just today, holy cow, one monster bloom on James Galway!! Can't wait to get him up & climbing. Your Wollerton & Desdemonas are super lovely---I have Wollerton, just got in April. Do you have a rose called Arctic Blue? Mercy me, it likes cold weather, almost bloomed into December & is very tall right now & bloomed early. So wonderful to see your garden & hear your voice---someone needs to name a rose "Lovely Viewer" in your honor. Happy gardening!
Hi vintage and bless you. Yes overall I’m very happy. Perfect? I don’t think things can be perfect all the time, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I’m very happy. The kordes will get with the programme I’ve zero doubt. They were just conserving energy . And Ive zero doubt brother Cadfael will do the same just like you suggest. Artic blue sounds great, I haven’t got it no. But it sounds lovely. Well I hope things dry out for you and conditions improve which I’m confident they will. Thank you
Hi again Jay Jay. I needn’t have worried. Vanessa Bell has bloomed and she’s beautiful. Generous gardener is next I think and poets wife and boscobel coming in a close third ☺️
Hi Jay lovely to see you back. Your roses are beautiful. One thing I noticed with experimenting is that cutting back hard has produced a lot more basal breaks and a more healthier plant overall. The ones I haven’t pruned as much have suffered the worst from blackspot. I do feed often which is something I probably haven’t done as much before and have found nice healthy new growth. I don’t use uncle toms but I find every two weeks with a mixture of chempak and liquid seaweed.
Thank you Tom. Yes I can only agree. That bed I hit particularly hard and in my climate I honestly believe they have done well. And I will have a good base to work from next year when pruning. I have no regrets. ;) best of luck with your roses.
Hi Jay Jay that was wonderful, so much colour and sunshine, thanks. It's been grey drizzle here all day today I had to put the heating on such a contrast to what I've just watched, gorgeous Seanie sunbathing and lovely Donna saying hi in shorts and I'm bailing my neighbours greenhouse out in wellies this morning haha. So much still to bloom too, you have done so well with your rabbit battles it's a success, that cheeky rabbit you showed he meant business ! Olivia looks fabulous, well they all do really Boscobel stunning and Desdemona so pretty. Jasmina looks amazing this year don't make me add it to my list ;) Thanks for showing GG, she has grown. Sweet Honey will come good it looked to be getting going now, I think that rose is very strong. The black spot is an issue again this year in the UK, it was last year too, so much rain what can you do. Thanks for the tour you've got many buds there waiting to flower it's all looking very lovely indeed.
Hi Linda and thanks. Yes some of them shining already but I think in another few weeks many more will start to sing. Sweet honey I’ve zero doubt will grow strong again, it’s only just stopped sulking. Some consistent warm temps behind it and I’m sure all of those kordes roses will fly.
Buds, buds, and even more buds🌹Love It! Boscobel in your front border for me 🥰🌹🥰 Great video , thank you 'Lovely Grower' P.S....in reference to shrivelled foliage after spraying, that is identical in appearance to what occurred to mine. I have already, following your previous comments about reducing the strength, cut to half a measured dose.
Boscobel I’d have to agree Peter. Even today with heat they are holding well for a David Austin. Yeah uncle toms I like it alot but keep an eye on the roses individually. I will probably half the stated dosage on all roses. See how that goes but I know most take the stated dosage.
Congratulations to your Boscobel. It’s looking fantastic! Much better than mine. I also have Madame Anisette. This rose is one of the strongest I ve ever seen. You will have much joy with it I think. Jasmina is a lovely climber, but in my garden it doesn’t repeat blooming. It has one great flush and I don’t do dead heading her this year. Thanks for this video, I enjoyed it very much. Greetings from Austria!
Hi Ruth and thank you. All credit to the roses. Yes I regret planting my Madame Anisette there I should have potted her to see how she got on. Jasmina I have two flushes but only 2 flushes. Separated by maybe 2 months but last 2 seasons I got 2 good flushes even when she was small. Hopefully you will get 2 this year.
Beautiful I love watching your videos. I just started a rose garden and so far the David Austins are doing the best. I'm in Florida USA so the heat/ humidity is challenging. Thank you for sharing.
Best of luck in that heat. I’m surprised you say the da are doing best in those conditions they don’t usually do well in high heat here. But best of luck it’s whatever works for you there keep at it. Thank you and well done :)
Wonderful fantastic roses 🌹❤️ Lions rose looks stunning 😍 I bought Summer Romance after watching your video as standard tree . Cant wait to see her in bloom! Have a nice day with your lovely family. Finally we have a bit of sun ☀️🤗
Hi dilly. Don’t worry about the state of mine here. You will be amazed. Mine have been heavily rained on several times plus wind battered. They are ready to be pulled but I wanted to show them as is. I’ve zero doubt next flush will be good when it’s warmer weather behind it. :)
What details insite of your roses Jay. Plenty to learn from watching your videos. My Olivia is pretty established but no where as tall as yours ( must be an Asian version of Olivia) . Kordes seems to be slower to flower compare to other Da’s. Lovey yourl latest garden tour Jay but unfortunately I’m sure most of us want see more!!!
Hi Ken. I did prune my Olivia’s a little taller but they seem to handle it well enough. In strong heat they are gonna sag some regardless but I think I got away with it. If anything I pruned too narrow and I can remember that bloody cut. One snip that’s all it was. But we learn. The kordes will get into gear we know it. They are just warming up. Terrible footage of my summer romance, them flowers well over a week old and battered with wind and rain. Now your footage you gotta show us what they should look like :) cheers mate
Your garden is looking fantastic and the roses are too! Did you nearly fall over? 😂😂. I think i confused you about distant drums. I was disappointed that id ordered it, before i had actually received it as i knew some people including you were having problems with it, so i regretted buying it. It has come to me very healthy, but i can just see tiny amounts of mildew on the edges of a few leaves and i thinking over time this may not be a good rose as it was never meant for our climate. Ck jones also advises rose clear in their leaflet which is something im not willing to use, so I guess Time will tell but in all honesty yours looks terrible and id be so tempted to get in touch with ck jones. I should be visiting david austin gardens this weekend or next with my son as its our yearly trip out now hahaha and i will definitely be looking for some of the roses that are in your garden. Youre such a bad influence on my bank balance! Looking forward to the next video as always
Hi Davena yes I knew you weren’t happy but I thought yours had arrived bad. As you see mine is not in good shape. It could well be this rose 🌹isnt suitable for U.K. climate. At the moment the omens aren’t looking good especially for people who don’t spray. We shouldn’t have to. The roses I’ve got from ck in the past have always been, and gone onto be very good. This one the jury is out. It’s not in good shape as you can see. But I do want to persevere with it and without rose clear which I won’t use. I will give it time to establish more as the weather warms and see where we are at. Also let’s see how winter deals with it. If mine fails or more likely to fail I will get in touch with ck. at the moment it’s hanging on for dear life. But I’m gonna give mine the summer at least to see how it gets on. Yes I almost feel over. :)
@@Jay_Jay good luck with the rose, I really hope it recovers for you. I will keep you informed about how mine holds up in my garden. In the meantime, watch your step! No falling over! 🤣
Fantastic garden tour. Your roses are doing well. Like to see your Jasmina in bloom. My place Jasmina usually bloom late and not lasting as by that time weather becomes hot.
Your roses are so beautiful! And that Boscobel - I hope mine grows as beautifully as yours does. Of course, I have now seen several more roses in your garden that I want in mine, lol. And who is that fine 4 legged gentleman (?) at the end? What a beauty! I don't ever remember seeing such a find doggo in your videos before :)
Beautiful rose garden I always enjoyed watching your video Jay. I don't know how you keep your summer romance blooming in shorts caine while I have mine always have long octopus caine with masses of flower. Thank you for sharing
Hi there. I wish I had octopus cane with masses of flower. :) I think summer romance can do this I’ve seen it before on first flush. It flowers early for a kordes rose, but If conditions haven’t been great it’s a little weak but it flowers anyway. Second flush, when things are warmer will be much better and more flowers I’m sure.
I see thank you for replay. I want my summer romance blooming on shorts caine like yours and other people had haha .... very enjoyable seeing so many buts on your 🌹 well ✔️
What a treat to see your garden and hear your cheerful voice. Your pruning method is brutal but it has worked well on Queen of Sweden. I have heard that some Kordes roses dislike foliar feeds. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos as your roses a full of buds.
Hi Kim thanks and that’s interesting. You saying some kordes don’t like the foliar spray I can’t disagree with that at the minute. I’m thinking what other roses are reacting and I dont think any DA are, possibly Rosemary. But it does appear to be just a few of the continental roses with that recomended mix.
Hello Jay Jay, I believe the rose season is starting off for you quite pleasantly. Your Boscobel what a show! 💯 Distant Drums It's one of my favorites but unfortunately I can't get hold of it. The one I did manage to get is Wedding Piano and for a first time bloomer it has many buds. Bye 🌹
Yay best of luck with that wedding piano. Remember first flush for me last year got wiped out in rain. But it got stronger and stronger as the season went on. Let’s see what this year happens to bring us :)
@@Jay_Jay Yes, I'm looking forward to see how it will establish. Roses do need time but I'm quite happy with both the Tantau and Kordes roses I have. I just recieved 3 plants, Lady Marmelade - Harkness, Novalis - Kordes and Sangerhäuser Jubiläumrose - Kordes. Hope to be successful! 🙂
Wow Jay jay,Boscobel looks incredible 😍😍😍Now I saw that just on the Eustachia Rose next to the open Flower…what is the critter cutting and eating the Rose Buds in half😮 my poor CPM has almost non left , they got razored in one night…😢😢😢 To get multiple Buds I really have to feed them regularly with a liquid feed once a week, but I think the cold spells in April didn’t help also…Love your Brother Caedfel mine is covered in mildew because of the rain 🙈🙈🙈
Hi obiwan, I have little doubt that cold snap and winds we had in April put the brakes on my kordes roses. But I’m not worried because I know they were just waiting and conserved energy. They are waiting for the right time to sing. :) What’s cutting my buds in half I don’t know. I have to say I haven’t noticed what you speak of. I will have to take another look. best of luck in your garden :)
Hi Jay fantastic video of your Roses. Like you I have a Roald Dahl growing in a container 3 years old now in my back garden but not performing can i still cut it back now & my Timless Purple is looking wonderful like yours what is in my front garden in a border & the amount of people who stop to smell & photography it is unbelievable and I do feed with David Austin Rose feed.
Hi David and thank you. The Roald Dahl I would speak to DA or better still one of the big TH-camrs Jason from Fraser valley or gardener Ben. My Roald Dahl I’m leaving it to flower, I’m pretty certain 2nd flush from Roald Dahl will be a good one. As will for instance my summer romance. However come winter I am going to extract Roald from its pot and replace all soil with fresh. I’m glad to hear your garden is doing wel. Always nice when people comment or take photos. That’s lovely to hear. ;)
What can I say? Where do I start? Fantastic tour of your roses Jay Jay. Everytining looking wonderful. But, who was spoilt today apart from Seanie on his sunbed? Me! A conducted tour iwith Donna and Jay Jay, and a nice cold drink too. If anybody reads this, it turns out we only live a very few miles apart. Thanks again for both tours. P.
@@Jay_Jay , thank you both for a lovely time; really loved your garden. Easier to write on here and texting and as for emails........ I guess when I get a new phone things will be a lot easier. Your roses will be ever changing and I shall be watching very closely. I'll be back in touch soon. P.
@@Jay_Jay True, it was such a lovely day. Anyway, I hope to be back in the near future as things change. Believe it or not, I'm doing thngs in the garden here today. Things are changing here quite rapidly too so I think you'll be back here very soon. P.
Jay Jay all yours roses look very healthy and strong start to this season, despite rabbits issue. My DA roses are at same stage as yours along the front lane. This is also true for my Jasmina, Wollerton old Hall and timeless purple rose. I decided not to go for ' distant drums ' as my PCDM is doing very well now in blooms. Heard about uncle Tom but never used on my roses, as they are healthy with other feeds. Look forward to seeing more of your garden videos in near future. 👍
Yes great isn’t it. :) best of luck with your roses and I am jealous of your pcdm. I actually drove past the nursary a week or so ago and was tempted to nip in knowing you were having good luck. I didn’t in the end but keep us updated on yours. Cheers Raj.
Hi and sorry for delay. That’s not an easy question. This year particularly I pruned heavy in the middle. I got rid to help the rose breath. All my roses got muched and fed. Fortnightly I am using a foiler spray. And (alternate) fortnightly I am using comfrey tea to water. At present I am certain this has helped some. The amount of blackspot so far has been very small indeed with just the odd leaf being plucked. This is inportant. Keep ontop of it. I have a couple of very large roses infested with blackspot, they shed leaves all over the garden. I try and clear this up best I can. Cheers
@@Saigon-ej1wrI have roses from 1995 & they are most healthiest of them all… annuals are waste of money…i don’t ever buy any but have 128 roses at my London house & 100 + at the countryside house
@@0010-n8q i just bought 11 roses at Costco, hope they will survive through the following years😀 Some of them are not in my zone when I look up the names. So far I got totally 30 roses included 4 climbing roses I think. Hope I got some more when the garden closed it on sales. I bought some at Lowes last year and some of them not coming back? 0:39 Nice, old vintage cabbage rose form, 0:46 Nicely. 3:42 Yes, lovely border! Queen Elizabeth 2 would have appreciated it, I have seen photos of her touring rose gardens and the zoos, she seemed to not be a nose in the air royal but an admirable lady who enjoyed the fascinations in our world ( I must say, she would not enjoy the traffic going by! LOL!). 5:18 My Eustacia Vye spent the winter in the 45 degree room in her massive pot, Every day, 45 degrees and above, I dragged her out of doors. She is in her second year and buried herself under a blanket of large, intensely, sweetly fragrant roses. For those who have no Eustacia Vye, you must get at least one. First flush over, now she is putting up new flower buds on new growth. 5:56 At the time that I decided on Eustacia Vye,I was unaware of the golden glow in the blossom centers. I can not recall ever seing a rose with such a golden glow in the center, quite an undestated elegance. 7:22 Behaving like a hybrid tea, one bud is all that you get, or 3 if the tea has enough floribunda ancestry! 7:45 Yes, I was dong that with mesh until a herd of cats moved in here they terrorized and devoured all of the rodents that were destroying various plants. I do NOT like cats, but I do appreciate their anti rodent proclivities! Rabbits, haussenpfeffer comes to mind! 😆 😝😍 9:50 No, seeing the mesh there is instructive for others confronted with the same situation and learning from your comments. 17:17 weeds happen when it rains too long to go out and hack them off. Thank you for the show and tell! Ralph in Ohio.
Hi Ralph I must make a note of getting the next cabbage shot just for you. That one stopped me dead. Not for long mind but hesitation doesn’t usually hit me but you see it there, deafening. :) cheers mate
@@Jay_Jay Always good to hear from you. My first Earth Angel bloom opened today. No rose does cabbage form better than earth Angel by Kordes. When I got my first antique rose plants 30 years ago I was trying to recreate rose scenes from my very youngest years, scenes that had sunk deep into my subconscious of old roses that I saw at old hoses during mid 1960s. I had no premeditated plan, just collecting what accorded with those far distant memories. At that time, I had no idea of the fascination of roses. For me, only old style roses. Modern roses , hybrid teas look too synthetic, old roses, especially cabbage roses evoke genteel memories of the 1890s.
Love your videos. Is Elizabeth a newish DA rose? Hoping to get Dolce Vita from Eastcroft Roses at tomorrow's Detling FS... My best flowerers so far are Rosemary Harkness, Wollerton Old Hall, James Galway and Strawberry Hill.
Wow. If your going, Peter has a standard sweet parfume de Provence. A very reasonable price in his nursary. Not sure what he will charge in Detling. But it is awesome, I saw it in full flower. Awesome! Elizabeth yes I think it’s 2 years old. Dolce vita I saw them aswell. Awesome! I hope he has some left. They all looked fab I couldn’t decide which dolce to pick. Reading your best performers made me smile. I haven’t got all the ones you have but you Megan, are on the cool wall. Great roses.
Your roses are looking amazing - better than some of mine I'm afraid. ( bunny damage again) Just to let you know, I have several sweet parfume de provence/ the Anniversary rose roses. This rose, although lovely, will grow thick stems & get very big, very fast. Mine are 4-5 ft. I fear for your boscobel/ desdemona/ & Olivia roses as they will most certainly suffer if you leave this rose planted there. The other alternative would be to cut it right to the ground every Spring. It is a monster 😳🌹🌹🌹
Wow thank you. Whereabouts in the world are you? It’s advertised in this country on several websites saying it grows to 3 ft x 2ft! And it’s the 2ft in particular I was hoping for. I had it potted last year and it didn’t fly. But I can’t afford to have…. Another, rose outgrow that particular spot.
I'm in Lincolnshire. As soon as I saw SPDP nestled amongst your other more 'refined' David Austin roses alarm bells rang & I thought I ought to warn you. I believe spdp is a HT rose, so could be cut right back to 3-4" stems in the spring, otherwise, If it was my garden I would definatly move her as I have never known a rose get so big & thick so fast. As you know, I have over 200 roses & of all my roses this one is the strongest grower. The plus side is she has the most amazing perfume, but the opening buds tend to rot & go brown in wet weather. Oh well, I suppose we can't have it all 😊🌹
@@michelleelsom6827 gulp. Thanks ever so much for letting me know that really is helpful. I have seen it grow in this country a few years old and pretty small and one I’ve seen on TH-cam, afternoon sun and also not big yet mature. but this is a good spot. So annoying. The 2ft width is especially what I was trying to nail. I will leave it here for this summer and see how it does. But that is a tight gap as you see. Thanks
@Jay_Jay I think you will be OK with the width as 2- 3ft is about right, it was just the size the base gets to, but at least you know now to keep an eye on it 😊🌹🌹
Hi JayJay. Love your videos. Can I ask what you feed your roses and when. I’m in West Yorkshire. We’ve had so much rain and non of my roses are blooming yet x
Hi Catt. This year I have fed my roses DA rose feed. I alternate then fortnightly with comfrey tea one week. And uncle toms the following week. Next year I will probably drop the DA rose feed just for something cheaper. But the rest I will keep the same. Your roses will come and will then last longer than mine! Best of luck
How dare you be in spring... on the verge of summer.... while I am languishing down under a week away from winter? 😂 Your roses are breathtakingly beautiful to my eyes. The only thing surpassing them in beauty was that angelic little bunny feasting away your foliage. I didn't see either Mme Alfred Carriere or Westerland and am wondering if you still have them and how they are doing?
@Jay_Jay Thank you so much for that wonderful little video - I didn't get a chance to see it till now. Very kind of you to make it ... I'm truly touched! 😍 Your Westerland rose appears to be thriving, and the flowers are sumptuously beautiful. On the screen, the colour appears to be reddish orange but that may just be the way it appears on the screen. Mine is much more orange/yellow with a touch of pink. Likewise, your Mme Alfred Carriere is so pretty. David Austin always made the point that Mme Alfred, although a very fine rose, has flowers that he described as less "well-formed' than many other roses. The reasons I love it is because it is so healthy, so vigorous and it thrives in the shade. I treat it almost as a rambler and let it scramble, unrestrained, through trees. Perhaps climbing Iceberg might be an alternative choice for growing in your pretty pot up that beautiful brick wall. Iceberg is an extremely prolific flowerer. Finally, the outlook from your house is idyllically beautiful 😍. To look out on those fields with sheep and cattle grazing must be blissful. And the roses that border the lane in the front are just superb. Rampant and unrestrained. Your own little piece of paradise. Btw, I'm in New Zealand and not Australia - and in the southernmost part of the South Island to boot. Brr..
There was a bright, deep pink rose in the front garden next to drive. You didn't say its name when you held it in your fingers? Please could you let me know?
Hi Jay, Learning at lot through your videos. Delivery is to the point, and you have a lovely collection. Knowing what you know, if you had to pick 6 roses today, what would they be? Conditions - will receive abt 6 hours of afternoon sun, long repeat flowering, flowers should last long, disease resistant, containerised (large pot of 60cm x 60cm), any color, should not be a climber. Interested in your views. Thx
Your description sounds very much like my garden and I can certainly recommend Austin Roses such as Silas Marner, Desdemona, Boscobel, Pilgrim, Eustica Vye and Imogen. They are all in pots, get 5-6 hours of sun and all flower beautifully. As well as fertilising in spring and summer, I can really recommend foliar feeding once a week, it really does wonders. Thanks for your video Jay Jay - as always as interesting to watch your roses as to listen to you :)
Hi there and thanks. Wow here today a tough question. But Bliss Parfuma 7 days a week in my experience. That’s an easy question with that rose. You don’t mention fragrance so I’d say Roald Dahl and Olivia. If you want fragrant I’d suggest Eustacia but these David Austin’s the flowers don’t last long especially in heat. I’d say just 2-3 days maybe 4 days. But they do repeat very well and that’s worth considering so don’t underestimate that aspect. Summer romance would sit in that pot depending on where you are. Ticks all your boxes you mention, is fragrant but the repeat isn’t as good as the Austin’s. In this video my summer romance flowers look awful I regret showing them. but they saw muchos rain and wind battering them. One more…. Hmmmm several I’d like to say. It’s a young rose in my garden but I’m saying Bonica. Flowers a demon. Of course Bonica. Health wasn’t perfect last year but flowered very well for a tiny rose that it is.
@@Jay_Jay Thanks for suggestions..fragrance is not a priority. what abt DA Elizabeth, LOS and Penelope Lively? wld these be ranked below the suggested 6? i wish there was a shrub version of Amadeus. so it seems to be doing fantastic in yr yard.
@@shahraxit Elizabeth I do really like. A very personal favourite. I have one potted and it’s no match for the one same age in the ground. If I remember I’ll show both next video. Both get same all day sun. Lady of shallot is lovely I imagine it will grow very big. Mine is potted but in a baseless pot. I think in a year or two it will be big but it’s not the healthiest however in my garden. Penelope lovely could be a winner for you. Mine is very young but flew last summer. Its flowers lasted a decent amount of time also for an Austin. And was mainly in flower throughout summer. Mine are a little slow getting started this year but it’s only May and it’s about to flower now. Yeah very good call but remember it’s only a young rose. I can’t say it’s in the same health bracket as Olivia, Roald Dahl or Eustacia yet but a very good call.
What is the hedge behind Eustacie Vye? Also, it would be much appreciated if you could turn around less often and much slower ... it makes one quiet dizzy, your swiftness. Thank you.
Hi Linda, the hedge behind is ivy and Hawthorn. Red, yellow and orange berry varieties. NOT ideal to be in such close proximity of course. Long term I don’t know but it was a space. I have seen established rose hedges growing in same proximity as heavy ivy hedges so there is hope. Regarding the camera, seen and noted. My first videos I cringe when I see them now. Over time they are getting more stable. Perhaps I still have work to do. I will try. Thanks
Hi yes it was growing to big it had to be moved it was blocking sun in the potting shed. A shame because it loved it there. Hope your well how is your move going is it happening in near future ?
It is a fantastic rose mate. Mine grew very tall last year but the roses above my head and pointing skywards. I wanted to try and have them looking up at me. Will see how it comes out. :) cheers mate
This was filmed a little while ago. If I done as you say it would now be half the size. It’s doing ok now the weather has warmed up and next year I will renew the soil.
Two great roses right there. I love them both. Thanks so much for your comment and best of luck with your roses this year.
@@Jay_Jay Life is to short if don't have a laugh now and again.
Thanks for dropping by :) 🌹🌹🌹🌷🌹🌹🌹
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful rose garden. Thank you so much.
Thank you all credit to the roses :)
What a gorgeous blooming season! Well done!
Thanks Eric

@@Jay_JayA lovely tour! The roses Olivia Austin and PAOk are stunning. It’s good that you feed all the roses. I’m sure the rest of them will have their show soon.🌹
Gorgeous garden, as always:)
Thanks vorong. All credit to the roses :)
Here in Germany the Kordes Roses are later than DA too. I love your color combination so much Jay! Always a joy to watch your videos. And such an inspiration. 👍😍
Bless you and thank you. The kordes roses are warming up, when they get in their stride they will be singing a fine tune I’m sure :)
Jay, what a lovely garden. Thanks for sharing your joy.
@@Gez_rosa_newby I could be wrong but I think hers is cheaper but more powerful so needs more dilution. I could be wrong but check:)
Wow, beautiful roses, thank you for sharing.
Thank you lien. My kordes roses not doing aswell as yours just yet but they will improve now the warmer weather is here. Thanks
@Jay_Jay thanks JJ I'll look up uncle Tom
@@hungariancottageadventure77 it must be bad. Ok deleaf it of any black spot then wait for new growth to come through then I would spray on half dosage the fresh new foilage. But whatever you do don’t stress over it, your garden has the character to carry it. My garden is full of roses and when it’s full of blackspot it shows like a brick going through a window. :)
@Jay_Jay I understand, warm welcome must be a susceptible to it, I want another rose to compliment it so don't want it to get it passed on
Beautiful flowers
Wow, the roses are so lovely. I like their colors. They are growing well. Nice video. Thanks.
Hi and thank you
Thank you so much for the info. You have a beautiful garden. I have 18 DAs in mine all waiting to pop. Can’t wait to!! x
Yeah cat. :) best of luck I’m excited for you. :)
wonderful roses. You can feel the love for the garden.🌹
Oh wait, I have one exception: rose de Tobiac blooms early 😂
Haha yes I think the kordes flower just a little later I think. Summer romance is also another one to flower very early I think, but if conditions aren’t good it’s a little lame but it flowers still regardless ;) thanks hina
I like the mesh. I would rather do something that doesn't harm the wildlife. Always a joy to tour your garden.
Thank you
Your doggy is as cute as your roses! ❤ We have iggy at home 😊 I'm still waiting for my roses to open their buds!
Thank you. Your roses will come :) best of luck
stunning and I love your selection of roses!!!
Thanks Lazarus :) all credit to the roses
Hi again Jay Jay. I needn’t have worried. Vanessa Bell has bloomed and she’s beautiful. Generous gardener is next I think and poets wife and boscobel coming in a close third ☺️
Excellent !:)
Boscobel in your front border for me
🥰🌹🥰
Great video , thank you 'Lovely Grower'
P.S....in reference to shrivelled foliage after spraying, that is identical in appearance to what occurred to mine.
Ooh I’ve been waiting for this. Gorgeous 💕💕
Lovely Kyla I hope you enjoyed. Things I think will start to shift in the coming couple of weeks.
You have such a wonderful personality . Love your videos !
Bless you and thank you.

Thanks Lucy and well done on your garden, it’s looking 👍
Fantastic garden tour. Your roses are doing well. Like to see your Jasmina in bloom. My place Jasmina usually bloom late and not lasting as by that time weather becomes hot.
Thanks Rakesh, you’ll get to see it I’m sure. Looking forward to seeing yours bloom also.
I want my summer romance blooming on shorts caine like yours and other people had haha .... very enjoyable seeing so many buts on your 🌹 well ✔️
so wonderful Rose Thank you for sharing.
Lin! Sorry. Spellcheck ;)

Hi obiwan, I have little doubt that cold snap and winds we had in April put the brakes on my kordes roses. But I’m not worried because I know they were just waiting and conserved energy. They are waiting for the right time to sing. :)
What’s cutting my buds in half I don’t know. I have to say I haven’t noticed what you speak of. I will have to take another look.

That’s lovely to hear. ;)

What do you do to get rid of black spot on your rose bushes
Hi and sorry for delay. That’s not an easy question. This year particularly I pruned heavy in the middle. I got rid to help the rose breath. All my roses got muched and fed.
Fortnightly I am using a foiler spray. And (alternate) fortnightly I am using comfrey tea to water. At present I am certain this has helped some. The amount of blackspot so far has been very small indeed with just the odd leaf being plucked. This is inportant. Keep ontop of it. I have a couple of very large roses infested with blackspot, they shed leaves all over the garden. I try and clear this up best I can. Cheers

I live in zone 6 so any below mean they will not survive?
@@Saigon-ej1wr sometimes because of rain they rot away.. or cold weather kills them.. i never give up … just try them & see what happens..i have them die of rain here in England .. but hay - ho.. the show must go on
0:39 Nice, old vintage cabbage rose form, 0:46 Nicely.
😝😍 9:50 No, seeing the mesh there is instructive
for others confronted with the same situation and learning from your comments. 17:17 weeds happen when it rains too long to go out and hack them off. Thank you for the show and tell!

Beautiful roses. Would you recommend any for a rose hedge in partial shade?
I bought Dolce Vita and Crazy For You...yaaay
Your roses are looking amazing - better than some of mine I'm afraid. ( bunny damage again)
Just to let you know, I have several sweet parfume de provence/ the Anniversary rose roses.
Your roses are breathtakingly beautiful to my eyes. The only thing surpassing them in beauty was that angelic little bunny feasting away your foliage.
I didn't see either Mme Alfred Carriere or Westerland and am wondering if you still have them and how they are doing?
Hi Helen. A video from me just for you. Filmed just now:) Westerland and mme Alfred

@@Jay_Jay Thank you so much. You are an angel.
@Jay_Jay Thank you so much for that wonderful little video - I didn't get a chance to see it till now. Very kind of you to make it ... I'm truly touched! 😍
Your Westerland rose appears to be thriving, and the flowers are sumptuously beautiful.
Brr..
The garden looks outstanding.
I have to figure out how to post a video. One thats not R rated.
Ill throw something up on Instagram in the AM
Jay, I’m not familiar with some of the plants you are touring. Do you mind mentioning it if they are not?
There was a bright, deep pink rose in the front garden next to drive. You didn't say its name when you held it in your fingers? Please could you let me know?
Arrr sorry about that. It’s Eden rose. A climber currently potted and looking for a more permanent home.
Hi Jay,
Learning at lot through your videos.
@@shivalilla2469 thank you. will check the reviews of these. i hv the pilgrim but not looking for a climber now.
How do you keep grass away? Do you do weeding often?
Do you have a Claire Austin. I have one in a pot. Do they grow really big as I dònt know if im getting a big garden.
❤❤❤
I will try. Thanks
Your rose tour cheered me up. I didn't know you moved your sweet honey
Hi yes it was growing to big it had to be moved it was blocking sun in the potting shed. A shame because it loved it there. Hope your well how is your move going is it happening in near future ?
Mate, what do you think about Biobizz fish mix? Many people recommend it to be used fortnightly.
I don’t know mate I’ve never used it. Sorry I couldn’t tell you. But I do think a fortnightly liquid feed is beneficial.
@Jay_Jay Very beautiful mate :D
Cheers mate
Muito linda 😍
My Boscobel flowers are drooping, what am I doing wrong?
QOS is a fantastic rose!!!!! it is 7 feet tall and covered in blooms!!! no black spot!!!!!!!
It is a fantastic rose mate. Mine grew very tall last year but the roses above my head and pointing skywards. I wanted to try and have them looking up at me. Will see how it comes out. :) cheers mate
Rabbit stew !!! A handy pistol
Rabbit stew? That's what hubby says.lol
Debbie you are a naughty girl. Donna would divorce me I’d have no garden or home !:)
🎉❤❤
It's ok 😂 I've found it on this video.
Glad you found it and sorry for not labelling it in the other video. Thanks
you don't bend down most of us are familiar with DA roses
Haha excellent :)
very simple - just cut your ´Roald Dahl´ back to the base, potted roses needs stronger cutting
This was filmed a little while ago. If I done as you say it would now be half the size. It’s doing ok now the weather has warmed up and next year I will renew the soil.
