- The Mystery of Mr. Wong is a thrilling mystery made at the height of Hollywood's fascination with Asian sleuths. in the second of what would be a six film series from Monogram, the methodical Mr. Wong (Boris Karloff) investigates the murder of an antiques collector. Along the way he deals with curses, smugglers, and an ever-evolving cast of suspects. Featuring a cast that includes Grant Withers and Lotus Long, the film was directed by William Nigh, the creative force behind such Monogram favorites as The Ape and Black Dragons!
Director: William Nigh
Writers: Scott Darling, Hugh Wiley
Starring: Boris Karloff, Grant Withers, Dorothy Tree, Craig Reynolds, Ivan Lebedeff, Holmes Herbert
An excellent lead actor, Mr. Karloff. Good chemistry. A well written screenplay. And a most surprising ending. Congratulations. I will continue to watch this again and again. I thank you.
Love these old movies, particularly when Boris Karloff is appearing. Thanks to whoever. England, September, 2024.
I love Boris Karloff as Mr Wong
A vintage classic.Just love Karloff.
Monogram struck gold when they signed Karloff to play Mr Wong. This was a high quality series, well worth the shoe string budget. Just as good and sometimes better than Charlie Chan.
Love the Mr. Wong films so much. Like the Orland and Toler C. Chan films, I find them interesting on a number of levels as well as strangely comforting. I find myself using Wong and Chan-isms in my daily speech at every opportunity lol. Karloff was great in several films but his work as Wong is my fav. I wish Wong was real & a friend. Thanks for posting!
I love using Chan-isms!!! "Please, useless talk like boat without oar, get no place."
As always another great part for Karloff. At least he does not use a phony accent, gives dignity to the role. This must be about the 3rd time I've seen this one.
Thanks for posting
This classic movie
From the 30's
Another fine movie, thank you.
I like Mr. Boris Karloff as Mr. Wong. He does justice to the representation of the Asian people.
Very good & well done. Lots of action- tho' Street has a very one-note role..
Great fun thank you :-)
The avuncular Boris Karloff brings charm to this cheap series. He is every bit Chinese as a potato chip, but he is also the man whom I would love to have on the case.
Really?? Karloff is your uncle??
Potato chip???
@@allenwatkins4972 Don't get it; uncle??
Thanks for this one
That detective Bill Street, couldn't solve a crime, like who ate the ice cream, with the suspect having ice cream, on their lips. Shouldn't be a awful-sir, whatsoever. Let the detectives, detect. With this, it concludes my final entry, in the series. Will always love you, Boris😉!!!
Obviously his character isn't supposed to solve anything. Wong is.
Loved the way Boris is made up. He did his own makeup by all accounts.
Fantastic storyline!!
Saw this recently. Very good. I cut early cuz I remember all of it. Off to see. Other. WONG filmi
The old low budget movies are way better than the garbage that comes out for the last forty years where the actors and scripts are horrid.
I wonder if it was because it had to fit into 90 minutes, no more.
Hubby and I are enjoying these old movies 🍿❤️
That's a bit EXTREME. OUT THERE.

Fantastic one of my favorites:) what acting is supposed to be
MAKE me BELIEVE. !!! Lol
Karloff is about as Chinese as fish and chips with his natural English accent, but entertaining non the less. Personally i prefer the Charlie Chan movies.
Wong is supposed to be essentially an English Chinaman (or a Chinese Englishman.)
For anyone curious, Wong is supposed to be essentially a Chinese Englishman (or an English Chinaman.)
JusT the Gem that got the way। The way that played right and best
So mister Wong is Wright again. 🙂
iidoloo Boris KARLOFF
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
FYI................1939
thky
Why and who is preventing to mention the year the movie was made?
1939. Why and who is preventing to learn to read?
Don't like this bullying Street
The guy singing at the beginning of the movie reminds me of the la la la Russian guy. Google La La La Russian guy and you can find the 2 minute video.
sequel: the revelation of mr. white
BK THE BEST
I've seem better. Predictable.
Almost every movie is predictable
More monogram trash. Bottom of the barrel production values.
