The Vietnam Veteran blowing that whistle is my Brother. He blows this whistle as a sign of respect for the singers, dancers. ELDERS and the circle they are in. He's showing HONOR and RESPECT. My Brother is very Traditional in our ways and customs.. I'm proud of him. TEHICILA TIBDO TOMMY.. (I LOVE YOU OLDER BROTHER TOMMY). Mitakuye Oyasin..
Growing up in the circle, men like your brother showed me how dignity, honor and tradition. With no older guidance in my family the Creator would bring these people in my life. I honor your brother and all that served. 🌍✌🏽
HOKAHEY! This such a beautiful song and one of my all time faves!. Drum groups across the continent are singing this song. Great honor, great words, great message. Wapila
We are all ONE Spirit as we walk here. Creator loves us all. It is a blessing to have this precious Tribal Song shared with us. I believe it is with the gift of LOVE that it is offered. Thus, it can never be wrong. Traditions are vital but the Traditions of Spirit are most important. Creator's people need to be fed so that the Rivers within can sing the songs Creator meant for us to sing. We all should sing to each other from our many books of Life's knowledge. MTVO for posting! AHO!
@Susan Sandfly Ok. Thank you very much. One more question I would have is would this be an appropriate intertribal song to sing at a powwow? I really love this song. It's my absolute favorite song in the world, in fact. And I've been meaning to teach my drum group a new song in a different language.
The drum.rattles are ur ears and heart as one!!! The people's gathered are blessing all....they are talking to earned.given spirts..these families share them with u today...u have a very good for ur self
I have stayed out of this debate for many years but have decided to let all who comment on this video know. Proper procedure and protocol were followed during the whole process of the videotaping of this song. The song was sung to honor the newly born daughter of my friend who is standing at the gateway of the drum the whistle dancer. It’s all about enlightenment and being the best possible people we can, it’s not about who is right or wrong. We can all guess were the right and the wrong point of view will get us, conflict and war. We have seen it through human history and especially in the lives of our own people. What is there to hide? The Creator sees all that there is and I’m sure he does not want to hide anything. Spirituality can be for all want to participate and Creator wants us to share the beauty with all who we encounter. It is better to extend and hand of friendship and love as opposed to one who points a finger of ridicule. The reason that many of these ways are still here is that our people had to go underground and practice their ceremonies in private away from the eyes of a conquering nation. It is a belief system that still has a hold of many of our people. I say spirituality is for all.
Beautiful Truth spoken! Very Spiritual event which made many of our hearts soar also. Very sacred. TY for sharing at this time of Sun Dog... or the prophetic time for this. Look within... see... Creator does see all and knows our Heart and intentions so let's live there. Much respect and gratitude to all.
Turtleislandmusic With all due respect, that is an beautiful thing that you explained this...yes, it is for us, our people, our sacred ways, our medicine. I know it's a difficult thing to understand for us sometimes, but people will see and hear us in the age of video. And, if people are to see our ways (and they WILL, we in modern times), I couldn't think of a more respectful drum to sing this medicine song...they repped 💯 in a most humble and stoic way
I hear this song and I think and reminisce of my beloved Gramma, a very powerful woman who taught me a lot about life, traditions, and must of all love... love for everyone and everything around us... this song is life, brought to us through the singers and drum from Creator... Aho
Although this isn't something I would post, seeing my friends and relatives dancing so hard to this great song has made my heart sing. It's wonderful to see my bro Tommy dancing again, and this video has brought back many good memories of a great time at SIFC pow-wow.
And when he blows the whistle hes honoring the drum, creator and ancestors ..and this song being the "White Buffalo Calf" song is honoring white buffalo calf woman
The whistle is the spirit of the dancer, and when the dancer's spirit is lifted the whistle comes out. And only whistle carriers are chosen usually Veterans of Battle
there are many teachings as to why honour songs, and many other songs cannot be recorded. This song was sung to honour that whistle being blown and it is a pretty big faux pas to record this, you see the singers even remove their hats to sing this song song is sung amazing great job. I believe this song was sung at GoN many years ago
Aniin, I understand that the pipe is sacred and the drums an song and dancing. But it is the only chance for me, to FEEL, what happens. There are not so much Powwows in Germany and I´m glad to visit one, a few weeks ago - far away from my home. There I FEEL the spirit, the energy and the power inside. Mitakuye, for this video, Wakan Tanka is with you all
Pow Wows are open to anyone of any background. It is good to see other people from a different ethnicity want to learn about the native American culture it helps us get noticed by other people who may think we are extinct. Pow Wows are about coming together to celebrate, heal, and have a good time and dance, sing, and enjoy ourselves.
I appreciate everything that you guys are doing for us ❤️, the sixth grandfather said listen my children, we're all together now, no more crying, we are the first peoples on this earth ❤️...
Eagle Whistle Song it's a healing song, just like what we did in our sweatlodge we healed alot of people that day, me n u, Caring Wolf & Thunder Cloud, Londa Bray & Allan Myo, Loved u more that day when u sat by me n helped me heal our brother's & sister's
They are upset with the camera man because when there is a whistle blower and the traditional dancers are around the drum this is a sacred dance, and recording it is disrupting whats going on "Spiritually" ..
That song was awesome!!!! Truth is the song composer n original drumgroup was da ones making it happen then and there!!! That song gave inspiration to me remember our ways for the buffalo, our grandmother's, and mother's ...with out them there wouldn't be life for what it is today!! Wopila tanka chicayelpelo!!! Kiukanpi Memorial 🥁 drum
Relatives, the drum is the sacred heartbeat. Look for your heart and play the song that lies there, from heaven, from within, on the blue road again. My tears cry, because you have lost the trail, trail of tears now full of joy, rejoice. It's time for the returning. The whistle is the horn and call out to all Relatives. This signifies the age of brotherhood, the dawning and third yellow rolling hill in time. your devoted servant, White Buffalo Calf Woman, elder crystal child of the Rainbow Clan
I dont know if its traditional like that in these ways, but i always whistle this song by these guys at least one more full time every time i hear it. And I'm fitna do it for the second time this time. So my serious question is this, is there any old teaching about not singing the same song again in a day after you'd stopped singing that song the first time and then sang another one? You know, put a different song in between the singing of the same song twice or more pushups. This seemed like such an easy question in my mind, but not so easy to ask.
To be a pipe carrier it means the story of a well know female name badessa wi white buffalo woman tought us about the way of man n woman coming from the sun n moon creation of night n day n how it helps to create life like a child😢😊😅
There is a true story. Why. We beat the drum.. A woman came down. From the sky of heavens...brought a stick and drum..offered to us men...so. For the reason. That we men can not beat our women and children..so when ever we get frustrated. We. Take it on da drum . so as u can see how violent we are on the drum .we are not perfect... Love. Is unconditional. Handle with care.. Hiy. Hiy .

It's like praying, that dancer is saying "keep going, keep singing, thank you". and you respect that by taking off your hats. He is also thanking them for that song cause it brings back memories.

I know this was a while back, but at a powwow they told people they were not aloud to record the song when whistlers were dancing , but I'm not ranting just sharing something I heard ..
I was thinking the same thing, but i've been told by my drum keeper that at a contest powwow tradition doesn't matter, sad i must say .-.
yeah , its should be the same , for any powwow.. but everyone gets different teachings
Or at least have some traditional values at contests. And true that.
They'r not suposed to take this whistleling in video?
I see a few people are upset with the cameraman. Can you tell me what it is that was disrespectful,? I'm still learning about the culture ;)

Niska Outfitters that’s how it should be, this video shouldn’t have been recorded the way it did

Hah
I love this song but yeah this video should not be here my mushum would not approve
Love this song but no respect shame on you camera man

This is disrespectful - please take this recording off. Have some respect for our whistle carriers.
U should remove this. Disrespecting the song by recording after someone whistles or fans the drum.
The reason that many of these ways are still here is that our people had to go underground and practice their ceremonies in private away from the eyes of a conquering nation. It is a belief system that still has a hold of many of our people.
