Yeah. We really had to wait a year and a half for Season 3 almost to the day. And Dan Harmon pulled a reverse April Fools joke on all of us and they aired the Season 3 premiere on April Fools day. Then we had to wait for June or July for the rest of Season 3. It was a crazy time.
I love that you really follow the story and remember how things connect to each other. Too many reactors get overwhelmed by the weirdness and never notice how good the writing actually is. I’ll watch them all with you.

I always find it amazing that bands that were massive in my day are now unknown by all these kids growing up after 2000. Makes me understand my dad’s feelings about bands from the 60’s and 70’s while I grew up in the 80’s not knowing anything about them expect when he played their music in the garage.

The shows version of the song is the one of its originators by "Nine Inch Nails - Hurt" but they went on to give away the song to Johnny Cash after having heard his rendition of it. Writer of the song saying it wasn't his anymore... I think you'd like it too-- It's haunting... That version was featured in the movie Logan. "Johnny Cash - Hurt" It was his last song, passed away months later...
This episode really took the whole "funerals with cake" thing literally, eh?

I love that they used Nine Inch Nails music in this episode. Hurt is a great song.
Interesting that they used the NIN version of the song Hurt. Even Trent Reznor, the lead singer of NIN and the guy who wrote the song, has admitted that he considers the Johnny Cash version of Hurt to be the real version.

Let's get SQUANCHED
This is a minor detail that I've only realized until just now, but Rick said planet Squanch is 6,000 light years away. Then in the next scene we see them FLYING there, not teleporting with a portal or anything. Even if his ship could move at the speed of light it'd take 6,000 years to get there. So his ship must be able to move much faster than light itself. Over 6,000 times faster than light since I'm assuming they don't spend a whole year flying there. Objects with mass typically don't do this, or even come anywhere close. I know it's Rick so anything is possible, but it's interesting how they casually just gloss over that. Sorry, I'm a nerd 🤓

It all goes downhill from here. They hired a bunch of new writers for Season 3 on, and most of the new hires took it in dumb directions.
For example, Jessica Gao who also worked on trashfires like "She Hulk", who self-inserted herself into an episode to feed her ego. Lots of forced shifting to Summer and Beth in awkward ways.
