Thank you so much! I tried Higurashi a long time ago when I didn't know about these mods. I remember it was so silent, not even any BGMs. Currently installing the mod, I look forward to actually experience it this time!
@@jedharend That was back in 2017. I just downloaded Ch.1 from steam, installed it and tried playing it. I remember from back then it had the old original artstyle as well.
@@ZigZagKangaroo that really is odd. the steam version now sadly has the mangagamer sprites (which i personally really dislike), so i never knew there was a time there were only the original ryukishi07 sprites available. that's really quite interesting
@@jedharend I wonder why they changed it. Maybe because it's a bit of a simple style. I prefer the style you recommended. After playing a bit more came to mind. It was quiet until the first after school scene where cicadas started chirping nonstop as the only background sound. I believe it was at the end of that scene that I stopped initially, the day before Keichi got the Hinamizawa tour and Rena's lunch. Now I'm far beyond that point.
@@ZigZagKangaroo i’d instinctively guess that the sprites were changed due to copyright reasons. Apart from that, i’d have no idea on why they were changed lol Good to hear that you’re making progress!
thanks a bunch man! i'm in the middle of reading umineko now (just beginning ep7), but i'm sure i could do one about everything once i'm done with umineko + the extra content!
If people are having trouble choosing what style they want to use to read higurashi, I can HIGHLY recommend using the original sprites and backgrounds, although at a quick glance they are a bit rough around the edges but once you get a good look at them they become very charming and they have the best expressions out of all the sprites, when it comes to the backgrounds I just think they fit the sprites better than the drawn ones. I would also recommend to patch in the voice acting because they are really good!!! Ofc it doesn’t really matter you can read it however you want, it’s just this is my favorite way to consume WTC
It’s interesting that you say this. I can totally see why you’d like the main backgrounds, as they make higurashi feel like so much more of a story set in a real-life location. I could imagine feeling a lot more immersed in the beautiful, idyllic setting of hinamizawa with the real backgrounds. Personally, i prefer the console bgs due to them being more simple, and i prefer the console sprites because they look a lot more human (to me) than the ryukishi ones. The console bgs also blend in a lot more with the console sprites more, so i guess you could say that too. Did you use the ryukishi settings for umineko too (if you’ve played it)?
@@jedharend I’m in the middle of reading umineko actually! And yes I’m playing it with og sprites, I like console umineko better than console higurashi but og is still on top for me
@@wizardgeek3722 ooh which umineko chapter are you on? i'm near the end of the 6th chapter personally. i definitely prefer the console sprites in umineko too and think they did an infinitely-better job with facial expressions than higu did. i like the og sprites of umineko a lot, but there are some that really dont sit with me, eg eva beatrice
@@wizardgeek3722crap i’m sorry if you already did, but don’t read the end of my last comment, as i’ve unintentionally spoiled the name of a character in ep3 But yeah i love beatrice’s sprites soooo much. I’m suuper close to finishing the original VN after reading for many months and have been lowkey eyeing the side stuff in that time, the console openings which I have enabled in my modded base copies have interesting visuals that raised an eyebrow But there *really* is a lot of stuff to go through and it varies in quality pretty hard according to fans, Miotsukushi is praised but I’ve heard people vaguely state that the arcs can be godawful. It’s also pretty intimidating to further mod games with dozens of hours of save data under them So like, THANKS. Fr.
Ooooh that’s brilliant - which chapter are you on at the moment? It’s quite funny that so many people reading higurashi will not fully understand the openings unless they read the console content lol I don’t think there is a single one you can fully understand where all the scenes are from without having knowledge of the console content. I never even knew about the console content until after i read matsuribayashi, so i was always confused at why i couldnt ever recognise some characters in the opening from any scenes i’ve read lol My respect for 07th mod is insurmountable due to the sheer scale of the content in the console arcs. There is genuinely so much that it probably could be considered longer than the main content. Lots of arcs vary in quality, i agree. The worst aren’t too bad, but they’re very forgetful (taraimawashi) and sometimes have badly-written ideas / plot points (tsukiotoshi). I think the advanced stories are all quite strong though. They may not be as good as the main content, but the different and varied experience they give makes it worth a read entirely. Some of rena and ooishi’s best scenes ever are in the advanced stories too.
@@jedharend Matsuribayashi, probably around the mid point! @@Stabbyhara ooooh i hope you'll enjoy matsuribayashi. i personally LOVED the finale of matsuribayashi. i get this is console arc plug #400, but please read miotsukushi ps2 if you enjoy matsuribayashi lol - it's argued to even be a better finale than ch8 by some. i'm so greatful to the 07th mod for all their work. the amount of time in my life that has been improved thanks to having the opportunity to read higurashi-related content has been immense. i love that higu has so many arcs that there isn't one main timeline. the console content takes advantage of so many ideas that have good potential when expanded upon absurdly well. even if some aren't the best arcs, the ideas behind them are amazing. hope you enjoy the advanced story. it's a big hit and miss for some, but i'd definitely look forward to it (especially miotsukushi ura)!
i mean there is probably an order for saku/hane/tsubasa, so i may make a video on it when i've read them if i feel like it (i'm close to the end of ep8 atm)
No problem, I’m glad it helped! Just be careful not to unintentionally spoil any of the plot with this guide. While i do think the anime has elements the visual novel could never convey (eg a visual representation of the story / facial expressions), lots of the horror is missed out on. Higurashi has too much content for the anime, and the adaptations are too rushed for me to like them much. They’re great watches, especially if you haven’t read the vn, don’t get me wrong, but the vn is infinitely better in terms of story and overall enjoyment (despite being a bigger commitment)
I’m so sorry I missed this, my deepest apologies. Anyway, you need to download the following: - onikakushi from steam - the 07th mod installer, which can be downloaded from 07th-mod.com - follow the steps in the video or on the 07th mod installer in order to install the mod for Onikakushi
I think an issue with ignoring the Advanced Story arcs till later is the fact that some of them are better when played earlier. Like, Someutsushi isn't as good as it could be if you read it after you have seen Arc's 4-8 because it's designed to be read before then. I feel like a lot of the issues people have with the Advanced Story arcs sometimes only come about if you read it out of order.
(Spoilers to anyone who hasn’t read higu yet) Hmmm, yeah, i can understand this. Especially with Someutsushi - knowing nothing about hinamizawa syndrome and getting to see the really odd, deadly effects happen to someone else probably has a lot more shock value when read early. I still feel that anything after someutsushi is best read after the main content, though. Though the mystery is about the same disease and its effects, it goes into an entirely different context and adds layers that are only relevant for the advanced story. I feel like the mystery solving could become really distorted if you read the advanced stories alongside the main stories. This is because, for me personally, the events of the advanced story may make me consider irrelevant theories, and the main and advanced stories may mix in together, thus meaning the best events may have been a bit more forgettable for me. Then again, it isn’t impossible to do - i wonder if anyone has actually tried it
@@ProsperousKingFlorenti tried to consider what the average opinion of people, who’d read advanced stories alongside main stories, would be when advising against doing so. this is only an assumption, though.
