  • At the western end of treacherous Bass Strait, King Island is noted in the history books for the frequency of shipwrecks on its rocky shores.
But in recent times it is getting a reputation for the quality of it's tender beef and gourmet cheese... not to mention the "characters" that the so called 'forgotten island' has attracted in recent times.
Jack Absalom found it one of the most friendly places he'd visited and concluded that its name should be changed to 'the magic island'.

These are some really solid docos. You don't see this kind of depth nowadays, at least in the content I've viewed.

Vastly superior to the modern stuff with a political agenda.

Jack Absalom and his good ol' trusty Mitsubishi Sigma!
    Great Documentary!
Pity commercial T.V don't show shows like this anymore.
Guess that's why we have good old commercial free, TH-cam! Yay!

I was born there on 25 January, 1947 and worked there for King Island Scheelite (1947) Ltd. after leaving the Royal Australian Navy before I worked for the Bechtel Group of companies for 38 years....

Jack captured the quick look and history rather well. However there's nothing like waking up at first light and smelling the sea air with no traffic and big city BS.

Sadly it wouldnt be the same now considering this was made in 1988 - let alone in a next life :(
But if it is the same, move over I'd move there too!

The inland taipan is the most venomous snake in the world, not the tiger snake and black mamba is considered the deadliest snake with the fastest acting venom..

38:33 what is this plant and how is it spelled? Metellot? Metalot? Meadowlot? He says it is a nitrogen fixer . Is it a legume? Never heard of it.

      Probably melilot (melilotus)
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melilotus
      It is indeed a legume

@Jamie maybe you are part of your own tool head generation. With a name like Jamie you must hang around in men's bars looking for a lot of stickie dickie.

@Jamie your obsession with fallacio is something you should attempt to see your boyfriends about. Try using a different image when you are not groping around with your camp mates
