I always have known the Amish is a CULT. I myself have grown up in a county in which the Amish is very much alive and well. I do not know any of them personally, but I have spoke to a few of them. We all know the Amish are far from perfect just like every other people practicing any kind of religious faith, including you and your wife. You claim you are uniquely qualified to provide a special critique of the Amish since you have never been Amish but have a Mennonite family history. I grew up in Lancaster County and still live here. My family left the old order Amish church 4 generations ago, my wife and I are members of the Mennonite church. My observation is that Lancaster County people with your last name have always felt superior to the Amish in matters of faith and practice, and still do. You are so misinformed regarding the Amish. There are a variety of groups among the Amish. Some seem to have lost the Gospel, but other groups are filled with born-again believers that share the gospel and are active in missions.
I have talked with multiple groups of Amish, and I never met even one that believed in eternal security. They ALL trust in their own self-righteousness, and believe they can fall out of salvation.

I believe this comes from the same sermon "Seek not to remove the splinter from your brother's eye before you remove the plank from your own eye." I personally would take the splinter first because I tend t think of others before myself, but I didn't need a religion to teach me this. I don't see religion as a bad thing per se, it just seems like the majority of religions are used to keep people under control so they are not questioning who the people are that own them.
