    Berlin, Germany.
Various shots of German troops marching (goose-stepping) past Governor Admiral Horthy, Regent of Hungary in a huge military parade. German children watching in the crowds make the Nazi salute. Soldiers on horseback, large artillery guns and army tanks also take part in the parade.
Commentator talks of the new field gun with a barrel forty feet long that appeared for the first time here - "Cameramen were forbidden to photograph it... on pain of being charged with treason. No cameraman did photograph it - cameramen prefer to keep their heads!"
    BRITISH PATHÉ'S STORY
Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news. British Pathé was at the forefront of cinematic journalism, blending information with entertainment to popular effect. Over the course of a century, it documented everything from major armed conflicts and seismic political crises to the curious hobbies and eccentric lives of ordinary people. If it happened, British Pathé filmed it.
Now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in the world, British Pathé is a treasure trove of 85,000 films unrivalled in their historical and cultural significance.
British Pathé also represents the Reuters historical collection, which includes more than 136,000 items from the news agencies Gaumont Graphic (1910-1932), Empire News Bulletin (1926-1930), British Paramount (1931-1957), and Gaumont British (1934-1959), as well as Visnews content from 1957 to the end of 1984. All footage can be viewed on the British Pathé website. www.britishpat...

By the time the Allies invaded NORMANDY, the cream of the GERMAN army had been killed off. Things would have turned out differently had not so many German divisions been squandered on the EASTERN FRONT. There Allies were still getting their Arses kicked at the Ardennes offensive by whatever troops HITLER could scrounge up with no Air Cover and little fuel. Only Allied air superiority saved the Allies from disaster. Like it or not, the Germans in their prime had no match in the Allied forces.

Soldiers would only receive a couple tablets at a time, and were discouraged from using them in combat.( Historian Lukasz Kamienski says "A soldier going to battle on Pervitin usually found himself unable to perform effectively for the next day or two. Suffering from a drug hangover and looking more like a zombie than a great warrior, he had to recover from the side effects." Some soldiers turned very violent, committing war crimes against civilians; others attacked their own officers) , personally, i knew an old soldier that used morphine during the war, he said they were rarely abused or even used, he'd swap a pack of Omnipon syrettes or morphine tartrate vials for a few bottles of beer, there were very few users he said.

    Today's thought...🤔
As both my grandfather's spent 5 years fighting in the British Army in the 2ndWW, AND...they told me all of their many stories, including liberating Belsen concentration camp, fighting in North Africa, landing on D-Day, and fighting hand-to-hand combat, up through villages and towns in France, and into Germany itself, it is very hard for me not to look at pictures of German uniformed soldiers...and immediately feel..."hatred". 😔
    It is visceral. 😱
I grew up at a time when the war was still raw. 😥
Many of my schoolteachers had fought in the war.
My next door neighbour was a Polish Battle of Britain fighter pilot.
My mum spent the entirety of the war living right on the side of the Thames, in South-East London, being continually bombed.
Many of her friends were killed.
So...it is still a very emotive thing for me.
I was brought up hearing stories of hatred for Germans and all things Germanic.
It is deep-rooted, and it isn't easy to let that stuff go...😥
But...I am also aware that "people are people".
    Everywhere.
I have tried to understand, and study, the modern history of Germany.
The 1stWW, the Versailles Treaty, the Weimar Republic, the humiliation of Germany, and the "hope" that Hitler offered his people.
NOTHING in life is "black and white".
I think there are parallels to be drawn with the war today in Ukraine.
    Or ANY war?
    Hitler once wrote that...
    "Man's natural state is war"
    (Or something to that effect)
I certainly think that Darwin had something with his theories.
But...is there EVER any room for compassion within that race to survival of the fittest?
    I think there IS.
    Just remember...
In war (...and politics), NOTHING...is as it first appears.
    There is ALWAYS...ALWAYS...more to learn.
    ☺️
