I missed the part where anyone condoned what Ed was accused of. That said, there is no need to project your guilt by absence of my failing to piss on a fresh grave at the mention of a man's name. Hopefully he has been held accountable enough for you to go on with your life now?

Im shocked and saddened. I discovered Cartoonist Kayfabe about 2 years ago after getting back into comics and manga. The passion that Ed had for the craft was truly infectious. Kayfabe became a part of my daily life. I felt Ed was a friend even though we never spoke. He will be greatly missed.

I was reading his note online before they actually found him and increasingly, as it went on and on, it just didn't feel real to me. And that may be part of the problem: Ed lived in a comic book universe, all of his friends, interactions and life's meaning were defined by comics.
These days it's possible to live a life largely separate from reality and to talk to ten thousand people a day and yet still be alone. I empathize with the pain you're expressing and I value your openness about it. We're here because we all love comics and we're here today (mostly) because we love each other.

I think part of it might be how modern life is, but part probably goes back to Ed's childhood. He grew up poor, in a neighborhood where his artistic pursuits weren't exactly encouraged by anyone other than his family....then he got some kind of illness going into young adulthood that basically put him in a home schooling situation for an extended time. That kind of stuff can cause you to develop a more insular personality.

It was because of CK that i got back into comics (during the pandemic). I liked how relatable they seemed to me because of their memories and nostalgia. Their depth of knowledge in the industry between them was always forwardly honest yet insightful and interesting, to say none the less (very nerdy😅)... opened my eyes to many artist and opened my mind to writers as well. Great interviews too. Ed will be missed. He and his family will be in my prayers.

    Therapy does work.
After my wife of 25 years died 3 years ago, not a day went by where I didn’t contemplate taking my own life. I called it The Dark Place. The widow/widowers Facebook page where we shared our experiences losing our spouses just made me feel worse. If I had any addictions, I know I’d be dead. Talking to a qualified professional will get you out of the Dark Place.
Ed taking his own life right at the beginning of this scandal just makes me wonder how much more would have actually come out. What we saw really wasn’t world shaking; there had to be more that Ed knew would wreck his life.
Just speculation…I don’t know. Just heartbreaking that he felt he had no other options.

Hey Tee, I am also feeling similar emotions about the passing of Ed Piskor. Kayefabe became an everyday part of my life. My motivation to return to my art expression and even work on my own comic currently is in part because of them. I got a great education in comic art, that is so valuable. Suicide has also come very close to my life, in 2021. Family intervened and thank God I'm still here. Demons are tough to battle. It's a big loss. Sending you a hug Tee. R.I.P Ed, not forgotten.

To be tried in the court of public opinion and having things stripped away from you before being found innocent or guilty of any wrong doing is a plague on today's society. Shame on her and shame on all the TH-camrs who spit on Ed's name out of spite and jealousy all to get some clicks on their channels. Man I'm shocked. I was no expert on him, but in English courses (Belgium), my teacher gave me special tasks. Since my English was already near fluent, he gave me the following thing : He'd send me a link to a conference or a comic book, and I'll have to give him an English summary of it. One of them was a Ed Piskor conference on his character of Wiziwig and his Hip-Hop Family Tree.
I always link him to that time in College (it's called High School in Belgium but it's equivalent to US College), fully immersed in Comics, BDs and Mangas, even bought his X-Men : Grand Design. He'll be missed, but most importantly, he'll be remembered. Hope he will find peace wherever he is.

He was killed off by the self righteous horde of hit-hungry content creators that used this over exaggerated circumstance to virtue signal, and raise their subscriptions. Ed was NOT a groomer or a pedophile.
He was an overzealous, happy person that had lost context and crossed a line. The term "groomer", is vague and broad, and often applied to cheaply slander people in order to destroy them.
Well, the people that misused it against Ed, apparently succeeded in destroying him. God forgive all of them. Rest in peace. Ed. I love you and will pray for you and your family and friends..

FANTAGRAPHICS obituary to ED PISKOR says a lot about Fantagraphics in all this. I've changed my opinion about what used to be my fave publisher. Fantagraphics are complicit in stacking the odds against Ed at a hugely sensitive time by publicly announcing they had no plans to work with Ed Piskor in future - - instead of just announcing what their future projects ARE, or simply not making a public announcement.
But even setting that aside, consider this: Fantagraphics police their post forum under Fantagraphics Ed obituary. Many expressed their grief for Ed. Some took the opportunity to further character assassinate Ed. One woman in repeated postings dumped on Ed by pathologising Ed and his work as [forbidden word here but not on Fantagraphics but starts with 'P'].
When I replied to this in a reasoned manner & questioned her pop psychology & shallow art analysis to slur Ed Piskor, Fantagraphics deleted my analyses & let this woman's character assassinations stand. My objections were articulate, analytical & not hysterical.
Fantagraphics then closed down the forum under the obituary as others too objected to character assassinations on the deceased on the posts. That Fantagraphics allowed their obituary page to be a voice for character assassinations of Ed Piskor while deleting OBJECTIONS to that behavior, says something crucial about Fantagraphics lack of a moral compass.
It's beside the point that Fantagraphics printed some great books. I'm saying Fantagraphics has no moral compass - - none in acting as they did which added to Ed Piskor's desperation when he was distressed; & none in hosting character assassinations under their obituary page on Ed Piskor & deleting those who defended Ed against these slurs. Shame on Fantagraphics.
Scandalous. Scurrilous. Insidious. Those are words I now associate with Fantagraphics' behavior.
