- Newly-released body camera footage shows the moments NYPD officers shot a man inside the NYC subway after they say he jumped a turnstile without paying and lunged at them with a knife. The man was wounded and bystanders were also hit. The incident has sparked new conversations about putting innocent bystanders at risk during police confrontations. NBC News' George Solis reports.

He could’ve literally just went to another station, but instead he fare evaded twice and then ran at the cops with a knife. Quite literally a dumb criminal.

The cop is terribly untrained he aimed for the suspects head and missed while cops are trained to aim for the chest, he did not deploy the taser correctly, he shot 4 people including the suspect and the suspect is alive in stable condition while a bystander is in critical condition, this was a fail on all counts. all for jumping a train stop, they said while wielding a knife but i don't see a knife in the video when he jumped the train stop he probably pulled it out after
The person jumped the turnstile and the police followed him and told him to leave, so he did. He then comes back wielding the knife and hoped again. When confronted, he resisted, openly hold knife, and antagonized the police to shoot him. After failed tasing, he lunged at one of the cops with the knife. I agree, this is not how you handle a situation when drawing a firearm. Poor training.
All this for $2.90 and on the video you can see 2 people jumped the turn style right after him. Ridiculous you know how much hospital bills the innocent bystanders have to pay because the cops could not handle a guy skipping $2.90 fare.

100% justified, but the officers need better training and higher shooting standards. Ive gone to the range with NYPD cops, they are terrible. I dont know if its still the case now but they used to have guns with terrible triggers that reduced accuracy. It was called the Glock NYPD trigger.

I dont understand how they defend opening fire in a crowed subway. Why weren't they using tasers?? Wouldnt that be the safe way to take a criminal down while there are other cops and civilians crowding around. Im very surprised that the police cheif would defend his officers when they shot another officer and killed(he wont live long) a civilian. Nonetheless, nowhere did I state that a knife isn't a lethal weapon.? I stand by my original opinion that generally, including what I see in this footage, the THIRTY FOUR feet that a police taser can shoot should be proficient in stopping the assailant before they reach you. And I posit that if one has enough time to draw one's firearm then one has enough time to draw one's taser. Now I will say in this case that perhaps the taser wasn't having much effect. Or perhaps the officer was standing back with his weapon drawn as a secondary option while other offices had tasers out and he didn't have a chance to switch gears. But none of that changes the fact that I never wrote that a knife is not or can not be a lethal weapon.
