Homes were destroyed as the worst tidal surge to hit the UK in 60 years struck the east coast of Britain on Thursday. The Environmental Agency estimated that sea defences protected more than 800,000 homes, but when the surge combined with high tides and strong winds many barriers were breached. Repair works are now underway in many communities. In Hemsby in Norfolk seven houses were toppled from their clifftop positions and collapsed into the sea. Thousands of homes along the east coast were evacuated as the North Sea reached higher levels than it did during the devastating floods of 1953. Two people died in Thursday's storms, but the weather is now said to be easing, however, flooding is expected to continue throughout Friday. Report by Laurie Blake.

It baffles me when some make comparasons with Britain & countries like the Philippines.Look, when your home is floating out to sea I imagine the last thought in the minds of those who're now homeless ISN'T "Ah well,it could be worse,we could be living in the Philippines".If a tidal surge is 30 metres or 60 metres it's irrelevant once your home has been swept away! The response,"This is nothing, they should be living in,(insert country of choice)...." is meaningless to anyone who's home is now a few miles out at sea!

At 0:20 the buildings look portable. Worst in 60 years, that a pretty good track record! Looks like a slow motion hurricane.

Well the first aerial shot is definitely not the Lincolnshire coast, it's Southwold in SUFFOLK

wow, the aerial footage really demonstrates just how ridiculously close to the powerful sea those homes are. Why on earth would anyone do that? Have they no clue at all about what the mighty ocean can do????

People living in houses near water or volcano are just asking for it.

Admiral Ackbar ors really not the same thing. In Britain these coastal villages have been there for centuries, and the land has eroded over hundreds of years.in the past twenty years or so the rate of erosion has sped up massively. These people are not idiots. It’s totally different to living on the side of a volcano.

If you choose to buy a house near a cliff face or beach, it’s really your own stupidity to blame.

See level rising ,the South of England slowly sinking due to glacial rebound raising Scotland . Now barrage storms one after the other as predicted by the last Connections episode and your man Burke . As the denial industry confuses and no serious strategy to slow this down as yet ,thing do not look good for this part of the world .

DON'T use "whoosh" noises for your subtitles - it's inappropriate, distracting and unprofessional, and demeans the people for whom this event has caused great suffering.
