    7:44 I don't see what the issue is. When filtering, things get pretty close, that's why you go slowly. The truck is just in his lane, sure he might be moving around in his lane, but he's perfectly entitled to do so. To me this looked like generic filtering hazards. In fact, here's a tip from a rider doing 10-15k miles per year commuting on two wheels: if cars getting really close makes you angry like that, DON'T FILTER, because you're obviously lacking confidence and therefore are endangering yourself.

    • @TheCashman007

    • @BasicShapes
      @BasicShapes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The truck tried to lane change (had his right signal on). The issue though is like you said, typical filtering risks. No one's really expecting there to be bikes filtering all the time. Dumb dumb's gotta get physical and punch the guy's mirror though when a single beep on the horn would have been fine.

      Same here - I've been riding for a couple of years, but after watching nearly all Dan´s videos the last year, i've got a new mindset.
      Intersection - Orange stage! Side of the vehicle - roll of the throttle and cover the brakes. Pay attention - you are responsible for your own safety.
      When I ride, I always place myself for safety and planning my ride, looking for an escape path.
      DDFM repeats himself over and over and over, but it works and has made me a more safe rider.

    • @AndrewB416
      @AndrewB416 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      The whole thing would have been mitigated with a little bit of common courtesy. They both arrived at the 4 way stop at approximately the same time. The biker is turning left however the car is proceeding straight. Let the car go and then make the turn safely knowing you don't have to cross the path of another vehicle. Did the biker have right of way? ... probably...but it's just safer to let the car pass and move on with your day.

Driver got out, rider got off, rider went ahead to punch the driver, driver smashed him back into his bike. Not smart, just because you wear a helmet and hiding behind it, doesn't mean the other person will just back off; Especially when you're being dumb af. One very important thing with side of the vehicle situations and using the horn: only use the horn BEFORE the car advances into your road. That way they might hear your horn and stop before advancing, which is ideal. Has saved me more than once.
    DON'T, however, use the horn once the car has started its advance into your road. Chances are the driver will get startled and brake/stop, and now you have a car stopped in front of you and across the road. Very very dangerous.
    If the car has started advancing into your road, brake and take evasive action, but don't honk your horn. Let the car go across your lane as quickly as possible, as that's the most chance you have of avoiding a collision.

    Honking at people who fail to yield can be a dangerous waste of time since some clueless drivers will stand on their brakes in a blind panic when they hear a horn. I used to always honk the horn at people who made mistakes so they'd "get feedback" on their driving but after several instances of this making a situation worse I stopped.

    • @BasicShapes
      @BasicShapes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep. Works out a lot better in the end. Gotta keep a cool head. People know immediately when they fuck up and if they don't, chances are honking at them is NOT going to make things any clearer. I got cut off today, it was what I'd call a "soft cutoff", I didn't have to hard brake or anything but it was heavy traffic and he swerved in front of me. I didn't do anything and sat behind him in traffic. Couple seconds go by and the guy stuck his hand out the window to say sorry/thanks for letting me in. I gave him a thumbs up and we went our separate ways. No biggie at all.

    Fun fact, the two short clips starting @12:12 and ending at @13:30 are from Slovakia (EU). The 'Ilava' region is quite nice, actually, a few roads running through countryside and forests (the asphalt ones) are a real treat for a chopper / cruiser biker like me. But yeah, when near civilization (or rather, settlements), you have to be much more alert there, compared to some of the more densely populated towns and areas - drivers' skills are generally regarded to as 'not so strong' in this region.

    If I am getting tailgated or someone is keying their acceleration on me,I slow down,pull over and let them pass.
    No hand gestures but I sit in the car saying GO-GO-GO YOU ARE IN A HURRY-GO.
    I am always amazed how many people WANT OR NEED to start an issue but as soon as you pull over they look at you like scooby doo.
    No gestures,just let them go and if they won't go,get ready to call the police.
    Driving away like crazy person just makes them think you want to race.

      its a shame that they initiated an attack making his maneuver more self defense/confusion more than anything. The bikes incriminated themselves more than the driver ever did. Moreover they were acting like immature jackasses creating safety issues on the road then attacking people who tell them to take their horse play off of the dangerous public areas.......
      its like being at a gun range and having the guy in the stall next to you practice spinning a loaded revolver like a cowboy in the movies. Its dangerous and stupid, there are places and contexts to do stuff like wheelies and fancy gun spinning. Public spaces where safety is a priority is not the place for that shit.
      You are on the same channel I am, this channel is ALL ABOUT SAFE RIDING and those guys were doing the exact opposite of safe riding and making people on the road Nervous. Just because you signed up to gamble your life on a 2 wheeled death machine doesnt mean other people should be forced to gamble with you......
      Doing wheelies in the middle of the traffic at high speeds near other cars is as immature and stupid as it gets. What is even more stupid is attacking someone for telling you to stop doing dangerous stuff and putting other people at risk just so you can look "cool" doin your wheelie.

    6:41 These are farm tractors not over the road trucks. They live in the area and have to use the rural roads to get the hay, corn, and beans moved from the fields to storage. Give them room. Quite often they are legally, farmers are granted some special privileges, driven by youngsters. No one would intentionally run their equipment into the guardrail and damage it. That just makes for delay and extra work repairing a hay wagon.

    Gotta add a huge asterisk to that statement. If they tell you not to do something and they are not in imminent threat of further risk to safety or death, don't touch. You can look, you can advise, you can touch the vehicle, but don't touch them.
    That said, if there's further risk to the person (car crash on railway with train approaching, smell of gasoline and fire nearby, etc...) you're covered by the Good Samaritan laws.

      Also on quiet country roads if a car stops just past a turn off (side street) or a driveway, there is a good chance they a going to do a U-turn because they missed their turn, usually without looking behind them because the road is "quiet". Some of these bikers see the danger ahead of time and instead will speed up just to make a scene. A vehicle will be pulling out a mile away and some of these bikers will lay on the horn.

    I have to say if I am in a truck, and my mirror is smashed by a rider, my truck may inadvertently jerk in the direction of the impact. Likely ending in a broken mirror on both vehicles.

    • @sherpajones
      @sherpajones 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The irony of smashing someone's mirror because they didn't see you BECAUSE YOU WERE RIDING IN AN UNPREDICTABLE MANNER! Not only are they less likely to see the next rider with a mirror missing, they are also less likely to care. As much as I am a responsible rider, I could be the next rider that they chose not to care about.
      IMO smashing mirrors is actually a hit and run, and should be prosecuted.

    When you see the side of a vehicle DO NOT HONK THE HORN. The horn isn't going to stop you from slamming into the side of a dummy. And if anything, it will scare them and they'll hit the brakes and slow down right in front of you. Very few people hear car horns and go "Huh, lets gun it"...

  • @silverfox6883
    @silverfox6883 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So many angry bikers wanting to fight with much bigger vehicles in traffic. Stupid. Always best to be chill and hyper vigilant and always clocking your mirrors to know where all your possible "threats" are and accepting that often they don't even see you ...

    those big tractors often have no choice to take those routes, and going on bigger roads might even be more dangerous than smaller backroads. When im driving tractor on a normal road I see car drivers taking insane risk just to get past without any view ahead of the tractor.

    does motorcycle emergency make you want to hit brakes? I understand that's stupid to compare motorcycles and mountain bikes, but during my bike stunting years, hitting the brakes, when the bike is less stable was the last thing to want to do...

    Was that guy on the roundabout French? I had one the other day stopping on one coming off the motorway. For reference, here in the UK, one of the more sensible rules of the road is that you give way when entering a roundabout. As in you stop, wait for a gap and slot in. And whatever you do, you DO NOT STOP in the middle of a roundabout (unless there's a red traffic light or something).
    As I understand it, in France you just get on it and once there you stop and give way to others getting on. First off, WTF France? But yeh, that dude was literally just there giving way to people who were giving way to him... In hindsight it may have been beneficial to pull up next to him and explain the difference - he was being a road hazard anyway.

    Looks like body position is off
    He looks like he is towards where the bike is leaning. I think that maybe just maybe he wouldve gained a bunch of more traction from that wet road if he would've counterleaned a bit more
    Counter leaning is better for both ur awareness of whats going around u and quick pivots and constant/instant changes or direction and its better for wet surfaces on most bikes and scenarios specially the slow with tight turns ones

    little remark on you pointing out that the horn doesn't do anything (12.03min). If anything, the horn (or revbomb for that matter) makes the opposing party aware that they are f-ing up and they might try to adjust in an unexpected way. Giving you even less time to adjust your speed/course. Accepting the fact that they didn't see you and leave them on their ignorant trajectory makes it at least predictable where your escape path lies.
