Sam is the best and most adorable horror monster ever, for me at least. He's so monstrous, but still so sweet, I adore the little shorts made over the years too. I'm so glad CZ is covering him :D
13:45 “I’d rather be a monster than a man like you.” I cannot express in words how much I love that line. Seems a bit odd for Sam to put up Jack-o-lanterns outside Krieg’s home, since they are protective. But it may be a bit of mercy, given he did celebrate a bit, or just telling the other spirits, “This one is mine.” Either way, his goal was to aggrevate Krieg, and he did.
I believe since he had upheld the tradition of giving candy in the flash back but was interrupted by the child driving them off a cliff, Sam gave him a chance to get back the spirit of Halloween before it was to late like the creator states. But he doesn’t. And in a twist of fate, after Sam tries to m*rder him, because his lilli-knife stabbed the candy, the character was spared. That line though was great though.
It's really unsettling with the contrast of cute to horrifying with Sam. And I can't help but love him for it. It's also rather refreshing, as others have pointed out, how he's not just some other supernatural powerhouse or a mindless serial killer. Instead he's just a spirit upholding traditions and it's nice seeing him be friendly to those who keep to that tradition. Sam is one of my fave halloween "protagonists" i mean yeah he does kill people but its not that hard to have the halloween spirit and making it out alive. I am Mexican/Honduran born in the states and truth be told, i was more influenced with Mexican culture since i found i was half like two years ago. Anyways, Dia de Los Muertos has always been a big part of my life and something i always look forward to more than Halloween. Its a beautiful tradition that brings our community together by remembering our loved ones even more. This holiday helped me to realize that Death shouldn't be feared as its part of life (as long its not brought upon by a living being). For a celebration thats all about Death, its brings such comfort and it does make some people uncomfortable. Some people look at Santa Muerte is a deity that is used by bad neighborhoods who practice dark rituals and affiliated with cartels which sadly tarnished our Lady of Death's image. She is a deity that protects, brings good health and wealth, and guides our loved ones to the afterlife. What im saying is that i think Sam would love this celebration. He is a deity who watches over October festivities. Its also amazing how many different cultures have different celebration during this time of year and have some similarities. Its truly amazing.
All things considered, for me personally, the fun never ends this time of year. I was born and raised on Halloween and my godfather is Cubano. So I get the best of both worlds. I love Dio de Los Muertos!
O' Hallow's Eve is actually October 30 and Samhain/Halloween October 31 and then finally All Saints Day when the spirits that celebrated with the living go back behind the vail

The only reasons Wilkens didn’t draw Sam’s ire for poisoning that bully is both due to him properly following the candy tradition with the other kids…including Sam himself…but also due to his actions being balanced by his killing essentially balancing the Halloween Karma of the act. The bully was smashing pumpkins if I remember correctly, among other things. If not Wilkens…then I’m sure Sam would have caught the lad
I love that Sam and Trick r Treat are getting the recognition they deserve! Also you're fucking amazing and the detail and research that goes into all of your videos is PHENOMENAL.

"Trick r Treat" has been one of my favorite Halloween movies and traditions through the years. I had no idea there was expanded material in the form of comics and short films. This and "May" are criminally underrated and ignored Halloween films.
I’m so excited at the thought of a sequel. I kind of wish Sam would give people more of a chance the first time but watching the movie to see what he does and doesn’t take offense to makes it so much more of a story imo.
Sam reminds me of a kid Jack Skellington. Both based off Jack O’ Lanterns and Skeletons. Halloween has never had its own Santa Clause but these two are up there.
Here in Newfoundland, Canada we still have mummers but it occurs around Christmas. We dress up and go door to door with our "ugly sticks". A good time is had by all!!
Great video! Come Christmas time, I’d love to see your take on Krampus, specifically michael dougherty’s take on the character. Not only does he have really interesting details (such as wearing a skinned face to appear like Santa or wearing rings that symbolize actual parts of ancient tradition), he also shares his universe with the Trick R’ Treat one as shown in a deleted scene. Apparently, the two films even take place generally in the same area. I think it would be fun to see you do a timeline that interconnect the two and show how Sam and Krampus are two sides of the same coin

Hey Zac, great analysis of Sam from Trick’r Treat and good job explaining the origin of Halloween, I know you have to skip over important details for time and I just wanted share with you a detail you got wrong about pumpkin as Jack-o-lantern 🎃, the Celtics never used pumpkins as Jack-o-lantern, they used turnips in Ireland. It wasn’t until they immigrated to America, bringing their traditions with them, that they discovered the existence of pumpkins and started using them onward as Jack-o-Lanterns 🎃

Trick ‘r treat is so underrated It's so unique the way the movie is structure
Happy Samhain to those who still celebrate it by that name like me
Samhain and Yule are the only seasonal festivities I DO celebrate.
I love that Sam and Trick r Treat are getting the recognition they deserve! Also you're fucking amazing and the detail and research that goes into all of your videos is PHENOMENAL.
I love these History / Lore videos. I'm from Shetland and this is the first time I have ever heard Guiser (which we spell Guizer) out of that context. The pronunciation is identical. Mind...blown!
5:06 what? Halloween's official mascot has always been David S. Pumpkins. What does he mean there's no mascot for halloween? Didn't we all grow up with David S. Pumpkins?
Yay, I love a CZ upload day 😅
I noticed that Sam cut the old man's calf like how the baby from pet semetary cut juds ankle
"Trick r Treat" has been one of my favorite Halloween movies and traditions through the years. I had no idea there was expanded material in the form of comics and short films. This and "May" are criminally underrated and ignored Halloween films.
Awesome video man
I’m so excited at the thought of a sequel. I kind of wish Sam would give people more of a chance the first time but watching the movie to see what he does and doesn’t take offense to makes it so much more of a story imo.
Dr. Loomis pronunciation of ‘Samhain’ never gets old😂😂
Ive learned so much about Samhain on this channel.
You always make great horror vids
Man i wish this movie had a sequel because i really enjoyed it.
Can't wait for trick or treat 2 😊
Me2
Sam reminds me of a kid Jack Skellington.
I was always knew this pumpkin had more meaning, im finally glad he's getting recognized
Edit: Why must people sin on all hallows eve bruh
Define 'sin'. Unless someone's offended Sam in some way, I'd say it's anything goes, more or less.
@@oceanberserker idk not following the rules of sam and halloween and the way he carries himself kinda scares me and hes so little🙂
@@Spibberoma When has the world ever lacked for incurable fools?
@@oceanberserker touché but its called a joke 😂
@@Spibberoma Hey, in the spirit of Sam, tricks are just as welcome as treats. It's up to you whether or not you only have a bruised ego if it's the former.
I've been waiting for a sequel
So good as always.
I love Trick R Treat. It's one of my favourite horror movies. Sam is a great villain. Great video Zac
Candyman or Jeepers creepers would be cool to see covered
Is it strange that I use these videos as a way to fall asleep when I’m having a particularly insomniac night? His voice and tone is so soothing.
CZ you are the best man ❤️ love the work you put in
Not only did Zac upload another metal video, but he did so on the cusp of my birthday ! Thank you Horror Master 😊
This is the best Halloween ever! 🖤🧡
This is one of my Halloween movies I always watch in October, every year. Its so unique and awesome.
Alright, thanks for another cool video, especially one like this. My Birthday is on Halloween day and being such, it’s my favorite holiday and time of the year. I always look forward to the shortening and cooling of the days along with the spooky television shows that come along with the month of October. Not forgetting to mention the kinds of feasts that the end of the year is know for.
Thanks again for the video, I really enjoyed it. Take care and happy Halloween to ya.
Peace.
I have never ever heard of Sam until I watched this video. Great work. This is brand new to me. I'm going to see if I can find those old animations. Sam is a cool character.
It's such a great story ❤️
i love how sam was kind enough to play catch with that dad it made my day
Cz world let's goooo🎉🎉🎉🎉 hit that like button
OKAYYY, I have had the trick r treat art book for 5 years and could not understand the continuity between the stories. You killed it 🤘
Hey Zac, great analysis of Sam from Trick’r Treat and good job explaining the origin of Halloween, I know you have to skip over important details for time and I just wanted share with you a detail you got wrong about pumpkin as Jack-o-lantern 🎃, the Celtics never used pumpkins as Jack-o-lantern, they used turnips in Ireland. It wasn’t until they immigrated to America, bringing their traditions with them, that they discovered the existence of pumpkins and started using them onward as Jack-o-Lanterns 🎃
12:49 When I first saw the reverent, I thought it was a guy playing Grand Moff Tarkin from Star Wars
Sam is still a g even after all these years
Trick r Treat has become a favorite since hubby introduced me to it a few years ago. I love this! I hope they don't CGI Sam in the sequel.
So is jack skeleton but horror movie version?
I love how Sam’s razor blade candy bar is the one Mr.Wilkins gave him. Nice call back to Wilkins fucking with the candy he was handing out.
