How prophetic to watch this on 12/20/2011 after the Niner's destroyed the Steelers 20-3 on MNF. Aldon Smith is a MONSTER and is now the franchise rookie sacks leader on what is the best defense in the NFL.
Aldon Smith is an absolute monster. He's smart, physical, confident, hungry, and blessed with great character from a stable family. He will reward the 49ers by working harder than every other player on the team, and will come in wanting to prove all you haters wrong. This is a HUGE surprise, but it is a GREAT pick. This guy will make the Niners front seven downright dominant.
The last time I can recall the 49ers ever had the 7th overall pick,it was 1994,the year I was born.Very strange,that player would end up becoming my favorite 49er ever.His name,ladies and gentlemen,is Bryant Young.
Thats all the more reason in my opinion he shouldve been ROY, he only really came in on 3rd down situations but he was force when he showed up, I think the presence of Justin Smith, Patrick Willis, and Navarro Bowman made him look like anyone couldve filled Smith's spot. Idk I just wish they'd go off of production and not popularity or who played on the worst team, just like when V. Young won it and Colston had way better stats for the Saints

@JTOKI Are you serious? Aldon Smith is going to be a beast... He dominated the preseason and it's already a better pass rusher than Manny Lawson. Manny wasn't fit for the 3-4 defense because he can't pass rush. Aubrayo is a no factor so far for the saints. Plus we got another star rising in Ray McDonald. Only stupid pick they did was reaching for Kaepernick in the 2nd round. They should have drafted Ryan Mallet or Daquan Bowers.
As long as we have a NT that can be a beast, Alden will harass offenses. By himself also can't get by double teams. As an OLB though he's fast enough to cover check downs but that's about it
now he is a raider dang if only he could have just stayed out of trouble. although I'm not sure what he will contribute to Oakland since he is suspended for half of the 2016 season.
If Aldon Smith had been a full-time player, he'd have gotten Defensive ROY. However, I find it hard to complain after all we got out of Smith with him just being a situational guy! Hope he can keep his head on straight though. I believe that his maturity was questioned prior to his getting drafted. Already had a DUI & got stabbed just this last week...
A situational player simply cannot qualify as a ROY candidate. Yes, Aldon Smith was a force when he played. But did he play enough for us to get an real evaluation of what he's not good at? Is it fair to compare him to players who experience full game fatigue & greater chance of injury? His speed/strength will not last all game and what if he was just average after that? He wouldn't be ROY. I'll assume the 49ers knew best how to use him and they decided he was a situational guy last year.
