In Season 2 Episode 26 "Squidville," Squidward moves to Tentacle Acres, a gated community of only other octopuses. Around five and a half minutes into the episode, he joins a clarinet trio (making it a quartet). He begins playing an accurate countermelody on his clarinet with no warm-ups, and then becomes the lead clarinetist the next day. Being that the other residents are just as snobbish and full of themselves as Squidward is, it speaks volumes to Squidward's skills as a musician that an established trio would accept his spontaneous arrival with no qualms, and then almost immediately elect him to the principal position.
@John Doe Although his name has the word "squid" in it, Squidward is an anthropomorphic octopus. He lives in a moai between SpongeBob SquarePants' and Patrick Star's houses.
Squidward has an odd type of narcissism. He loves himself, but he loves himself for his skills, which manifests into self-portraits. However, the rest of Bikini Bottom sees that as just plain ol' self-love, when all he really wants is validation that he's a good artist.
And interestingly, probably because this show has existed for about 22 years (yes), then all of the kids who grew up with it (like myself) were able to realize with age that Squidward really is way more deserving of recognition than he gets due to actually having legitimate skill, and that his cynicism is not just grouchiness but instead legitimate tiredness from everyone treating him like garbage, and thus value Squidward and his art *very* highly.
Meta moment; “It’s just a sad show, just an ego, as far as I know we were both pretending, I supposed so, but what do I know?” ~Dustin Bates Oh and he really needs to embrace the absurd and start increasing the diversity of his subjects rather than continuously drawing himself.
@@enasbitch6988 His art, to him, would probably become meaningless then. I think he just needs to do a bit of soul searching. Art for yourself is a fine but lonely passion. It only breaks your heart when you’re not given validation for it, because the motivation of the piece is to be your own good company; no one else values that and so he’s caught in a depressing loop where he’ll just keep making art pieces for his own stability instead of pushing towards something people of their minds will relate to. The fact that they don’t appreciate his art, already, only speaks volumes about what kind of art industry is run in Bikini Bottom.
Well but he’s also obsessed with his appearance and believes in his superiority generally. If people started to acknowledge his skill his egotism probably wouldn’t go away, because he doesn’t just want validation as a good artist, want validation for the skills he actually posseses, he wants the validation of his self-conception as a super artist and as an elite member of society.

Totally agree, he isn't a good "convetional" and "realism" artist, but had great abstract and surrealist skills, he's not bad, just unconventional. Once he find his audience I bet he would do pretty well
Squidward is the most underrated artist of this century. His art truly captivates and inspires many. He is beyond talent and he is superior. No artist can compare to him.
It is a matter of humility. I believe that he is far more talented than anyone in Bikini Bottom takes him up for; and for that, he by my standard deserves much more recognition.
are we all going to gloss over the fact that this video didnt just prove squidward is a good artist but also he has untapped godlike powers that are possibly stronger then that of spongebob's
Too be fair, there have been many famous artists who were viscerally hated during their lifetime only for their legacies to live on after their deaths.
With his musical skills, I have always thought about the fact that they are underwater. Maybe that's why he's awful because he's just blowing the water out of the clarinet....
@@David-cu1xy The campfire is impossible for obvious reasons, but having a beach underwater is actually a real phenomenon. They're called "brine pools".
Actually, there's other characters in the show who have played a clarinet beautifully. And I'm pretty sure those rules don't apply here since... ya know... they literally drink glasses of water under water and have campfires there..
An interesting aspect of Squidward that I’ve found is that he seems to be genuinely passionate about art and music. This is in direct contrast to his rival: Squilliam; who is very good at playing clarinet, but doesn’t care much about it at all and finds more happiness in the rich lifestyle and notoriety it bring him.
Squidward also seems to desire that same end goal (though maybe he wants fame more than wealth). I think the only real difference is that Squilliam is either more skilled or better at marketing his talent. You'd be shocked how far you could go by simply being a good businessman and being willing to work with people with a lot of connections. That's how artists make it, and Squidward needs a lesson is business relations.
I think he believes in himself too much but the fact he’s so arrogant, the show puts him down for it which contributes to his archetype as the starving artist.
Honestly, I think Squidward would get more recognition if all of his art wasn't just self portraits. The thing is, no one's telling him that's the problem. They just tell him it's bad without saying WHY it's bad.
When spongebob is crawling away crying, Squidward actually does have sympathy for him. That shows Squidward is capable of empathy, a trait contrary to narcissism. Perhaps Squidwards behaviour is just a self defense mechanism. Perhaps
The Mr krabs sculpture symbolises the insatiable hunger for money krabs has with the seemingly endless gaping hole in the middle. It also shows how unapproachable krabs is with the right angles and the spikes. It also towers over you in an extremely oppressive manner, much like how squidward feels about his boss.
Technically inside my country it happens with 50% of villagers getting addicted to opium and heroine because of that i don't have any artistical citizens. And the name of this country is unsurprisingly Afghanistan.
Squidward is one of those characters who you'd hate back then for "being mean" but as you grow older you realize how relatable they are/start to feel bad for them
Well, Squidward’s cynicism does become more understandable as an adult, but he’s still done his fair share of inexcusable things. Not saying he’s a bad person, but he’s no saint, either.
I think the important takeaway from the statue episode is that when SpongeBob started adhering to "The Rules of Art," he was unable to produce meaningful art. That's the first time Squidward deviated from the rules, and he was able to produce something fantastic.
I feel compelled to add that Squidward was good at playing the clarinet in one episode: season one's "Bubble Stand". The notable thing about this brief period of good playing is that it happened at a time when Squidward had a positive attitude due to his success at figuring out how to blow a big bubble on his own. (Which, now that I look at it, was probably only to prove that he wouldn't be outdone by Spongebob in any sort of artistic way.) After everything goes wrong though, he goes back to the poor, off-key playing that we know him for. This seems to support the idea that it is his attitude about things that is limiting him. Let us also not forget the episode where he writes a symphony while sleep deprived that is both approved immediately by the person in charge of the event and is enjoyed by everyone in attendance. It is shown in a way that seems to want us to give the credit to Spongebob and Patrick for their "leading roles" in the work, but it was ultimately Squidward that make such odd inclusions work in the flow of the music. So Squidward is a good artist. It is just sad that nothing ever seems to go his way, nor is he ever appreciated.
A character who is rude, aggressive, and unsuccessful, but has a high level of skill towards art that no one appreciates. Yup, Squidward is the cartoon representation of Van Gogh.
@@Sarbell111111 hitler tho... wasnt really a good artist? he was actually lampooned with his body figures, most notably. "like he never met a person" a critic once said(note this: even before they knew that it was hitler's, so no bias there)
I want a bob ross style show with squidward instead and he is talking you through how to paint some of his self portraits while making fun of your painting. No spongebob or patrick should be in this show. Squidward has earned his own show.
I actually always thought his art was good even as a kid. I mean his abstract paintings almost remind me of something of Picasso or Dalí. It’s just they are all squidward art. However I think back to that episode of Squidsville and wonder had he showcased his art there, would he have been considered a modern Vango?
Very interesting question! Since the squids/octopus' in that community all look alike in many ways, it's quite possible that they may have been able to appreciate Squidward's self portraits in a new light (especially the more surreal, stylized peices).
“The only thing in the way of Squidward’s success is himself” That’s oddly poetic since most of his art are self portraits, and it’s his narcissism that’s holding him back.
A lot of characters in the show seem to find Squidward unattractive to varying degrees, so obviously his various self-portraits, which make up most of his art, would be seen as equally ugly.
To be fair, most renaissance-era paintings sucked. We just remember the good ones that got famous. It's not like every painter in that whole era was on par with the ninja turtles.
I absolutely love this. I know Squidward is a fictional character, but he has to put up with so much shit, it makes me really happy to see people uplifting him for some reason.
I remember admiring his art. It looked like _art_ in a way that wasn't quite abstract, halfway between a portrait and a blob, but with solid colors mixing and smashing together with the colors around it in a way that pleases the eyes. There's a reason they're so easily recognized and that's because it's _good_
Squidward is a representation of growing adults and the fading of their normally innocent and super-optimistic personality. He's basically us growing up and having conflicted ideals.
Here's my stupid take on the matter Squidward is seen as a bad artist, not because of his technical skills, but because of how he uses art. Everything he paints, sculpts, cuts, and draws depicts the same exact thing, Himself. To Squidward, art exists only to immortalize himself, like a social media account that is used to show every last thing a person does in a day for upvotes, likes, and re-tweets. To Squidward, art is nothing more than a mirror. Look at this sculpture of me, compliment me. Look at this topiary of me This painting of me Me Me Me Me Me In the talent show, what did he do? Expressive dance. He did something that can't be done well or poorly, the "talent" he put out there was "Me.". View me, view my body, the way it moves, how special it is. Edit: one last thing. Squidward made an "improvement" to SpongeBob's statue. And what was that improvement? His own nose. His improvement is to make it more like himself.
A very neutral yet brutally honest and straightforward video about the true nature of Squiward's art. I like it. I always asked myself why he was always treated in such a harsh and cruel way, when his arts always were really interesting and nice, and even inspired my 6 y.o. me(and even until 8) to try art even if i only had old school notebooks from kinder or elementary school and cheap poor-quality kid markers to make something nice out of it. I always felt like crying when seeing how cruel was the world with him, when he only wanted to be recognized as an artist, frustrated by life and a neighbour who seems to have TDAH+the worst personality ever. I loved sponge bob, but after being punched SO HARD as a kid for being like him("you are annoying", "be more quiet, your pitch voice is killing me", "can you please stop for one sec?? Ugh"), i TOTALLY UNDERSTAND why he would felt so bad about his life and why he's like that with Bob, since i get that most people could find him VERY annoying. He only wanted one thing, but couldn't make it, and i assume that, based on his failure record, this guy narcissism is only a coping mechanism to hide how insecure and sensitive he is about his work... (Bc, let's face it: Squidward felt annoyed at Bob for overcoming him, but if he was TRULLY so confident in himself, he would actually NOT be so easily affected by the fact that Spongebob actually did better without knowing "the fundamentals" of art.)
Another thing that I feel is worth pointing out, is that mood appears to be a driving factor in the quality of his work. For example in an early episode (The bubble stand one, I don't remember the name) he accidentally blows a really impressive bubble, and the praise he receives lifts his mood enough that he's able to briefly play his clarinet quite well. Then there's the Best Day Ever episode, where he has a full on concert set up (how he got there is questionable, but we'll let it slide), and while we never hear the performance, as soon as Spongebob sits down, the crowd starts cheering, which implies that unless they are all just being super polite, he must have actually done a pretty good job. So, he's definitely CAPABLE of creating good art, even canonically, it just depends on the situation.
actually, Squidward is a fantastic clarinet player and is only held back by his poor instrument. In a couple of the episodes, Squidward receives a different clarinet and instantly performs a lot better. good equipment can only take you so far, but bad equipment can really settle you back. The 2 episodes i remember was when SpongeBob gave Squidward a personal wood clarinet and another episode where he got some famous person's clarinet.
In the bubblestand episode, right after he blows the big bubble that comes back and engulfs his house he goes back inside and starts playing clarinet again. This time however he plays it perfectly. It seems like it could be a confidence thing, because of how good he feels after blowing a bubble bigger than spongebob's.
I know the artist wasn't very smart but the point of the banana was to show how people would by any trash if it has a famous name on it that's why then it was suppose to be sold
Whole point of ductaped banana was to push the boundries of our perception of art. Most people would say - moder art is trash - and that is exactlywhat he gave us, piece of trash. @@vulekv93 What if there is no point and we just wanna part of the gig, so we make up a story that makes it work and the artist can just sit back and relax while we are doing all the work for him?
I think he would be flattered. If your art is encouraging critical thinking (even if it is a bit of a joke) it signifies that it really did make an impact on at least one person.
@@cult.girlfriend Wow, he died the same year as Stan Lee? He wasn't old though, it doesn't seem right. Man, I don't think I'll be able to watch SpongeBob anymore knowing he's gone.
I always find it interesting when animators depict artist, because you need a strong understanding to be an animator. From what I've seen Squidward has very strong art skills, but he fails at the most taboo element, making it a product. It goes like this: - If you want to make money or get people to care about your art work you need to make Art for others. - Squidward only makes art for himself & don't care about the interests of others, so he'll most likely never turn a profit from it. Keep in mind, doing art for only yourself is fine for fun & there is no shame in it, you'll just struggle to get people to care.
I think if you expressed an idea you like that anyone can find amusement in you wouldn't have a problem but squidward makes self portraits of himself instead of ideas. It's like fan art anyone can enjoy it eventhough it's something you find personally entertaining. But since it's not about you in particular anyone can be open to find enjoyment in it cause it's a open topic and not self indulgence. Nobody likes a person who's too obsessed with themselves. And makes everything about them. In order to gain an audience you need to try different ideas. Squidward makes the same things over and over again and wonders why people don't care about his art. I think you need to push your limitations as an artist in order to be groundbreaking.
@@coffintears5821 I think we need to take this in a broad approach & not just focus on the character in order to understand what the arts behind the show are saying. When Mr. Crabs hires Squidward that's a basic commission & he fails hard from making it for himself rather than the client, he never gives any thought what anyone wants The self portraits may just be a way to tie it all together for none artist to understand something is wrong. The problem that I'm talking about is a general issue especially with new artists & self obsession isn't a problem like not considering your audience.
He never shows self obsession in any other way & he hated being surrounded by clones of himself. He hates his life, & hates other people more. Just not being creative, that is a far easier character flaw to depict, green isn't a creative color & all. The Mr. Crabs statue shows a lot of creativity, & could have worked if given to others people not Mr. Crabs. There is also a huge market for reproduction art, most people want art without the art, the same thing sells a lot (Has to be the right same thing), sad to say groundbreaking fails a lot. The need for Invitation in art is a nuance topic & requires an hour long dissociation. Although to avoid further argument, I think it is important to note the fact this is so debatable means the creators either didn't effectively communicate the problem or wanted it to be broad & open for interpolation.
i’ve always like squidward more than spongebob. remember that one episode where squidward was happy for once? then spongebob ruined that by yelling at him for becoming patrick’s friend. tiny me felt bad and drew a pic of them all holding hands lmaoo
If anyone wants an unnecessary analysis of his clarinet playing from an actual clarinettist: 1. Looks like sometimes he maybe sticks too much of the mouthpiece in his mouth. 2. You are _NOT_ supposed to puff your cheeks up while you play, as a matter of fact, you do the exact opposite, you keep your mouth firm. Your cheeks may start to inflate a little as your mouth gets tired, so either Squidward really never learned what to do with his mouth or his embrasure wears out extremely quickly (or the animators just wanted him to look cartoony while playing) 3. Logically there's no conceivable way of Squidward actually being able to play an instrument that requires fingers to cover up holes and press certain buttons, but we'll chalk that up to cartoon logic. I listened to some clips of him playing in the old episodes and honestly? He doesn't sound that bad. He's a little flat and pushes the notes a little harder and louder than they should be. However, when he moves to Tentacle Acres we see him jump in with the trio and flawlessly blend in with what they're playing, we've seen him improv well on the spot with no sheet music. Those things all take knowledge of music theory and familiarity with various pieces as well as your own instrument. His skill level reminds me of myself a couple years into practice, like a well-studied high school band player. In the scenes where he's supposed to be playing badly, he's actually playing some of the higher notes in the instrument's register which are easier to squeak and mess up on and are naturally abrasive by virtue of being such high notes. Like honestly, go back and listen to his playing, as much as the characters wince it's not actually that bad.
I forgot what episode it was but I remember one where at the very ending Squidward is happy and starts playing his clarinet and it sounds really great, as apposed to the rest of the episode where he was struggling (? again I can't really recall what happened in the episode but I do remember he was doing poorly and then at the end he finally plays very well) so Squidward basically is a great artist in many ways, his dancing is not even bad, it's just interpretive which most people just don't like. Just like this video states, his mindset is the thing that gets in the way of his success, other than that, it's also probably because no one around him appreciates his style of art/music/dancing so even if he was expert at those things all the time, he'd still not be appreciated.
Look dude they dipped the reed in water to make it sound that bad..I've been playing clarinet for 4 years and I've never gotten my reed fully wet, so I can't confirm this is how it would sound

@@angelamartzen7499 I think it was the special episode Christmas Who? Spongebob gives him a wooden clarinet as a Christmas present. Then, Squidward disguises himself as Santa and gives presents to everyone in Bikini Bottom. At the end, he gets a letter from the real Santa, sees him in the sky, and returns home playing his new clarinet. And to my ears, he plays pretty good there.
I would argue that doing self portraits in order to master 7 art medias is a genius idea. in order to practice all of those crafts in a more efficient amount of time, you need to have a art model by your side at all times 24/7; and one can achieve this by simply working in front of a mirror.
I always liked him more than Spongebob while growing up simply because he was just treated like dirt by everyone in the world and I just felt really bad for him.

I always took the "lesson" of Artist Unknown as being "don't let your ego get in the way of your art." Which is why Squidward was a terrible artist when he thought highly of himself (i.e. "above" Spongebob), and Spongebob was a great artist when he was just having fun. It inverts when Squidward becomes a much better artist when he focuses on developing Spongebob (instead of himself), and Spongebob becomes a terrible artist when he begins thinking highly of himself after Squidward inflates his ego.
Your ego can actually boost your art, but it requires intelligence to deal with that arrogance and promote it like a product. Picasso and Kanye West come to mind. They started humble but sure as hell they both pretend they're the biggest shit on this planet and it only strengthens the appeal of their work. Same goes for Duchamp, who pretended to be a very big know-it-all and basically only made one artwork in his life when not counting his readymades. Yet he was known for inspiring and aiding alot of artists to improve themselves with his creative mind. For example, he suggested to Pollock to lay down his canvases while painting so he could walk around them while applying the paint, so it became more like a performance. Same goes for Picasso and Kanye and I guess you could say the same for Andy Warhol, who used this archetype of the "ART GOD" to his favour but also to spread fame to other artists who might never have been respected if it weren't for him and his amazing Factory. Sadly the time of art gods seem to be over. At least in Europe. We have a more hedonistic, DIY kinda approach. People can be who they wanna be, doesn't matter if you're German or Scandinavian, Italian or from Albania, the way you express yourself is entirely up to you. The market though is extremely concept-based. Your work is basically being sold with a guidebook of extremely complicated words only people with alot of money or institutions care to read because the text is so dense. They don't care about your inspiration, but buzzwords. They process you like an algorithm to see if you could fit in their next themed exhibition and it's really sad that us artists cannot spread this message of solidarity because the ones with money only care about making an investment. And the artists who break through don't make nearly enough money to break this pattern because culture is greatly subsidized by our governments. It's really sad to see how art is regulated in a supposedly free world.
Spongebob became a terrible artist because he started doing what Squidward originally taught him to do. Squidward during that time was just trying to get Spongebob to do what he did before so he could pass it off as his so he'd become a famous and rich artist
I feel sad for squidward seeing spongebob excel in art during S2 Ep 18 "Artist Unknown". Squidward lectures spongebob about art and from the looks of it, he's passionate about being an artist. Whereas spongebob, unintentionally shoved to squidward's face his skills on art and how he's good at something that squidward isn't (based on the episode). There's nothing more depressing than a person showing you they are far better at what you are passionate about than yourself at doing what you love.
I feel like the sculpting episode highlights an important aspect of Squiadward that wasn't really explored here. He is cynical and egotistical, but its only when he lets go of this notion and acts purely by passion and to some extent looking out for someone else (Spongebob) he is truly able to achieve his goals.
Squidward obsesses over his misery. And as a result he only paints himself. Were Squidward to finally accept himself, and begin to interpret the rest of the world just as he interprets himself through art, he would be a legend.
I mean he is a legend to the audience, because most people can actually see the genius in his artwork, and also sympathize with his misery way more than the writers probably intended.
The theory implied that the grave inside turned out to be his girlfriend. Sad to say that Squidward's repetitive life as a cashier at Krusty Krab and a failed artist and a musician living with the annoying neighbors was depressing. Yes, Spongebob and Patrick did wanted him to cheer up but Squidward rejected them to annoyance.
Yeh, maybe the art Squidward showed to the critic was just stuff he’s seen plenty of times already And the statue being full realistic human could actually be something very rare to see among fish folk artists, which was more of what the art critic was looking for

@@David-cu1xy The campfire is impossible for obvious reasons, but having a beach underwater is actually a real phenomenon. They're called "brine pools".

If he was playing under water he wouldn’t be able to play :/
Simple: he's a great artist but he doesn't believe in himself which is why his genius only shows accidentally.
That’s the truth with most types of artist including myself sadly so I fully agree
I think he believes in himself too much but the fact he’s so arrogant, the show puts him down for it which contributes to his archetype as the starving artist.

When spongebob is crawling away crying, Squidward actually does have sympathy for him. That shows Squidward is capable of empathy, a trait contrary to narcissism. Perhaps Squidwards behaviour is just a self defense mechanism. Perhaps

However I think back to that episode of Squidsville and wonder had he showcased his art there, would he have been considered a modern Vango?

Squidward is a representation of growing adults and the fading of their normally innocent and super-optimistic personality.
He's basically us growing up and having conflicted ideals.
Here's my stupid take on the matter
Squidward is seen as a bad artist, not because of his technical skills, but because of how he uses art.
Everything he paints, sculpts, cuts, and draws depicts the same exact thing, Himself.
To Squidward, art exists only to immortalize himself, like a social media account that is used to show every last thing a person does in a day for upvotes, likes, and re-tweets.

Can't believe you didn't mention the super accurate krabby patty sculpture he made of Pearl for her 16th birthday
Yeah that was amazing.
actually, Squidward is a fantastic clarinet player and is only held back by his poor instrument.

It goes like this:
- If you want to make money or get people to care about your art work you need to make Art for others.
When Mr. Crabs hires Squidward that's a basic commission & he fails hard from making it for himself rather than the client, he never gives any thought what anyone wants
The self portraits may just be a way to tie it all together for none artist to understand something is wrong.
Honestly i feel like Squidward is underrated... he's such a mood tbh
i’ve always like squidward more than spongebob. remember that one episode where squidward was happy for once? then spongebob ruined that by yelling at him for becoming patrick’s friend. tiny me felt bad and drew a pic of them all holding hands lmaoo

If anyone wants an unnecessary analysis of his clarinet playing from an actual clarinettist:
As a Saxophone player, it always bugs me how he puffs out his cheeks.
Look dude they dipped the reed in water to make it sound that bad..I've been playing clarinet for 4 years and I've never gotten my reed fully wet, so I can't confirm this is how it would sound
@@angelamartzen7499 It was the episode where he learned to blow bubbles with Spongebob and Patrick, and he managed to impress them. He played exceptionally well when he was being cheered on.
I always felt like squidward was unjustly treated badly by the show.
I always liked him more than Spongebob while growing up simply because he was just treated like dirt by everyone in the world and I just felt really bad for him.

Okay now I want a SpongeBob episode where squidward changes his act, Pursuits his art Dreams, and leaves the Krusty Krab.
maybe in the final episode???
i haven't even seen the show though haha
The problem is that spongebob *LOVES* working at the Krusty Krab, so probably he will still stay as a Fry Cook like always.
EDIT: STOP LIKING THIS COMMENT REEEE, IT WAS A MISTAKE!
@Mark Reagan Oh oof, my bad, I literally skipped over "squiward" when I was reading this, so I thought he was saying spongebob.
Thats already done...somewhat. The episode is called chum fricasse. I won't say any spoilers, you can check that out.

I really just watched a 12 minute video on squidwards ability as an artist, I've never felt so powerful
What I take from this video is that Squidward isn't a bad artist, but can't move up in the world since his attitude gets in the way of his endeavors.
finally, a video answering the questions that matter

When you realize Spongebob is only good at art because he's one of the few who have actual hands.
@@jewelyJewels doesn't make it *possible*
Art is something largely driven by self-fulfillment so if he’s able to go on loving his art despite the critiques everyone gives him then I’d say he makes a fine artist.
Squidward also plays the clarinet well intermittently, and for his dancing, he's super flexible.
Well, he is an octopus after all, flexible is an understatement for what he can do
@@canariopintado9929 Actually, I feel bad for him now. What if, he IS really good at the clarinet, but he's being held back by having tentacles and therefore no fingers? Imagine if he can play perfectly, and the problem is not his mind but his physical form which is unable to express his inner talent.
@@ShizuruNakatsu there are good clarinet players that are Octipi in the show
@@kaitlyngarner740 Not only that but Squidward himself IS a good clarinet player. He proves it in Squidsville when he joins the clarinet trio.
His skills seem to become frustrated when he knows he's among people who unfairly deride them anyway.
@@noumenine6474 honestly the only 2 times he's actually genuinely good at the clarinet is that episode and the special where he plays alongside Spongebob's ukulele. He's good at one other instrument, the electric guitar. He should have stayed a buff rocker

Rayquaza Δ Yup, also Snowball effect and Suction Cup Symphony.
Heck countless episodes end with him as happy as the rest of the cast like Grandma’s Kisses ( even tho he was a douche), Pressure, the ep where Barnacle Boy turns evil, etc
Handsome Squidward, enough said.
Did you ever come that maybe the people you listed are talented inspite of their ego; not because of it.
Spongebob became a terrible artist because he started doing what Squidward originally taught him to do. Squidward during that time was just trying to get Spongebob to do what he did before so he could pass it off as his so he'd become a famous and rich artist
GOD it is just a cartoon

@ThePuffin nice butcher of the line

Yes, Spongebob and Patrick did wanted him to cheer up but Squidward rejected them to annoyance.

Yeh, maybe the art Squidward showed to the critic was just stuff he’s seen plenty of times already
And the statue being full realistic human could actually be something very rare to see among fish folk artists, which was more of what the art critic was looking for
