Attack on Titan is my #3 favorite and Haikyuu!! #4. I'm a bit biased, though, to have Bleach at #1 because it's the first anime I watched properly. I did watch Ranma 1/2 and Fist of the North Star in college, but didn't complete them. I did complete Samurai 7 and Gundam SEED, but those weren't among my favorites. Hunter x Hunter at #2 because Killua is in my top 5 all time favorite characters. Ichigo is probably my favorite MC due to nostalgia. 😂

BUT, despite the crazy foreshadowing and seemingly minor details that come back later, please do allow yourself to enjoy the show without overthinking too much.
So many people are adamant about analysing every tiny detail because they are coming from the point of view of having already watched it. Many forget what it was like to watch it for the first time and be so in the dark. Don't let these people stress you out. Enjoy the show as it is the first time around, then come back for a rewatch! We all started in the same boat with so many questions and so few answers, but everything makes sense in the end and the show is so rewarding.
Also, please be so careful about spoilers in your comment section. Some trolls are intent on ruining it for others by blatantly spoiling plot points and character arcs, even by just alluding to them. Either avoid the comment section like the plague or invest in a good moderator!

One more thing! Some people will tell you to avoid watching the intros as some things shown can be considered "spoilers." I'm of the opinion that the showrunners wanted us to see these intros, so why should we avoid them? Until you have seen the full season, most of the "spoilers" are just vague references and will not make sense anyway. But of course it is completely up to you how you wish to do it! ☺
I am super eager to make my way through it and I always have someone watch the comment section for spoilers first! So we will be all good. I'll definitely check out the intro next time as well

Just wanna mention, every single detail(even minor ones) of this show will make sense afterwards, so I would recommend to pay attention to every single second. I guarantee you will be invested in this amazingly scripted show.
This is definitely one of the shows you have to rewatch if you want to understand more. I personally have watched this show 3 times(or more) and I still find new details every single time. Its crazy how the author manage to link this complicated story so seamlessly.

I'm pretty conflicted about this series as a whole but it's got really great pacing, solid world building/storytelling/characterization, incredible animation and voice acting, and a fair bit of gore & psychological trauma to boot. The most impressive part is how they set up the intrigue so that it leaves you guessing pretty much from start to finish up until the final moment of the final episode, there's not many dull moments throughout. You're definitely in for a ride if you stick with it.

AOT is another level of anime. It’s a masterpiece that will be remembered for years even after watching it. It’s theme is also quite heavy that’s why there are people who cannot understand or even hate it.
I am super eager to make my judgement of it and see the themes unfold

This is something important that can take people a while to understand.
There are three walls; Maria, Rose and Sina. But on the border of those walls there are districts/towns that have their own wall that is connected to the main walls. There are pictures that explain this during the commercial/half way points of some episodes.
The massive titan only broke the gate to the district, that doesn't give it access to the rest of the land

I think the word you were looking for at the end was unnerving, from what i have heard the titans were inspired by an interaction with a drunken person in which the creator realized that the most terrifying monster is a human with no inhibitions (or something similar to that, i heard it from someone else)
Thats also why i personally voted for hunter x hunter, because while attack on titan is a great anime, i thought it would maybe be a little bit too intense for your taste; rule #1 while watching attack on titan: no one is safe from death, so be careful with which characters you get attached to

This is probably one of the most intense first episodes in all of anime. Whenever someone says anime or animation in general is for kids i show them this 😅😅 the show has some weird pacing at times but the story is great and the animation is fantastic

I feel like you are so wholesome I don’t know if this show is gonna be your vibe or not. However it is an amazing story. If you are locked in for the journey remember everything is relevant. Stuff in episode 1 matters in season 4.

So this show is very story based and it gets very intense at times. There are some comic relief characters, but you won't meet them for another couple of episodes. That being said, it's one of the best animes of all time.

LETSGOOOOO Attack on Titan is unironically one of the best anime of all time, and really helped make the medium mainstream when it was released. It has episodes that are among the highest rated ever on IMDB, even beating out Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. I wish I could go back in time and watch this show completely blind again. You're in for a treat.
As other comments have said, this opening has zero spoilers from what I recall, so should be safe to watch it! It's an absolute banger.

Those names are german (I'm some random 19 year old girl from Austria 😜) and in the op they start of with "Wir sind das Essen. Nein, wir sind die Jäger" wich translates to "We are the food. No, we are the hunters". Erens last name is also Jäger=Jaeger.
My brother actually has a bachelor in Japanese studies and he's the one who got me into anime and manga a few years ago. Now I'm obsessed with it, as well as k-pop which helped me a ton...

OVA’s: There are extra episodes between seasons called OVA’s. In Crunchyroll they are in a season called OAD’s. These give more world-building and character development. There are 3 considered absolutely necessary to watch to understand the story, and 5 that are more optional if you want more well-rounded side character development. I will provide the official release order here. There is A LOT of misinformation on TH-cam about the order to watch these (a spam account always posts on new AOT videos an incorrect order), but I’ve provided the official release order intended by the author. I am a personal advocate of watching all 5 optional OVA’s as well, but it’s up to the reactor to judge for themselves if they want this world-building, or are impatient and want to continue the main storyline.

I noticed this translation called it the Survey Corps. The one I watched called it the Scout Regiment I believe. Same basic meaning I guess, but Scouts sounded better to me.

All I'm going to say is that i made it through season 1 and half of season 2 before having to stop for 2 months.
I then got back into it watched the rest of season 2 and half of season 3 before stopping again. I still haven't finished season 3 yet.
This show hits really hard and very different to anything I've watched. So don't push yourself if it starts feeling tough to watch.

So one thing to know is the English title is a mistranslation. Shingeki no Koujin.
Without context "no" particle can be used a variety of ways in Japanese but it is used to show possession. Japanese also doesn't have plural in the way English does which complicates things without context.
So this is better translated as Attack of (the) Titans or Titans' Attack or Attacking Titans. It could also be all of those without the plural of Titans.
Weird they chose "Attack on Titan" which makes you think Titans are being attacked instead of the threat.

"Wtf is this show" "I have so many questions" "I feel like I need to lie down" 😂 yup. Welcome to the agonising journey of AoT. I'm not a fan of dark series so when I watched this as a first year in university I immediately dropped the series. Ended up continuing 7 or 8 years later when I started dating someone who was into the show and really wanted to watch with me. We ended up watching all the way through and now we're married 😅 unrelated but yeah. Just to answer a couple of your questions as well, Eren and the kids are about ten years old during the first episode and you're right, their town is by the outer wall. The "wall cleaning corps" bit was a tongue in cheek remark about how they don't do anything but clean the walls. They are the garrison corps as stated earlier and yeah there's the survey corps and another division of soldiers as well that you'll see later. You'll learn more about this and the walls as the series goes on. I always liked Hannes, I think it's easy to brush off what he said about "as long as everyone is laughing at us and calling us useless freeloaders then it means we're safe" as a cop out or an excuse to be doing nothing and not taking any risks but I think it shows his humility, sense of responsibility and compassion for others, as he cares more about the safety of others than he does about whether or not he looks good or is respected by society.

You have no idea. You'd be surprised how many questions you have will be answered. Don't be afraid to guess plot points, if there's anything way out there, we can at least help with keeping you on the right track. In general tho, comments for attack on titan can be iffy. Make sure to be careful reading comments, people are too eager to be like "hey i can't believe you got this information wrong!!!" Even tho you don't properly learn it til later

All these years AOT has been my top 1 fav anime of all time... until, I watched Haikyuu. Dgmw, AOT moved slightly to number 2 and is still one of the best storytelling ever written. Haikyu won bc I watched the show in the worst situation I've been in, and the show saved me from that time. These two shows are the best imo.
