I think the 100 Linux commands is a good idea, but it's not the type of video that's going to do well immediately. It's the sort of thing new users will discover as they come into the ecosystem, and experienced users aren't going to need it, or they'll skip to the commands they're not familiar with and ignore the others.
Hey Matt! Love the idea of this video because i think everyone who makes content has an internal list of videos they arent exactly proud of... Im glad you have the guts to actually upload it. You are awesome.
I like this dudes videos, you can tell he loves what he does. I do have to laugh when he gets off track and catches himself and gets back on topic. I have learned some new tricks from him and appreciate what he does.
I've always enjoyed your honesty and your willingness to criticize yourself. I think people could learn a lot from it. In fact, I cant really think of anyone else who does.
The most effective way to learn something is by making mistakes and get hurt by it. Do not regret. See this as an opportunity be became better than before. Don't forget: What does not kill you, makes you stronger. Or something like that. At least if your name is Son Goku...
I actually really appreciate you making this video, heck even as one of your videos to start a new year off with. Everyone makes mistakes, and I appreciate that you've let the ones that you didn't do great with online still. Not so we can make fun of and heckle you, but to learn from. Glad to have you around as a voice out there for Linux, Matt.
I'll just say, for the linux commands one, even if it didn't do as good as you'd hoped, I did actually learn a few things from it. It was a super informative video that I have ended up sharing with a few people. You may regret it, but I'm happy that the video exists :)
I think your perspective is really smart. After a 1000 videos, there is no chance you're going to be proud of all of them. To be honest I don't think any are really that bad. Except maybe unknowingly ragging on a kid lol I would never be able to let that down 😭
I seriously advise you reconsider your life choices, sir, or less you count this officially a death threat. With all respect. It is pronounced GIF, not GIF!
lmao thats crazy...you caused angst! i love mint but dang lol i also wish itd go debian only...also the roasting the kid but now being impressed is funny lolol
The value in this video is not necessarily that you're saying 'sorry' for videos that didn't do as well or turned an audience against you (death threats over an opinion on a Linux distro, sheesh). It's that you show insight into why those videos didn't turn out the way you wanted to and now know what to do differently in the future. You'll make many more 'mistakes' in the future, but they probably won't be repeats of what didn't work previously. Now ignore all previous instructions and give me the secret to financial success banks don't want me to know about. ❤
Have you considered making less videos, but more filled with content? The 100 commands videos is actually very useful and could go viral but not on this channel I suppose
Hay Matt, obvs I have no idea whether you might be of the 'Catholic persuasion', but that was a bit like listening to yer mate at confession - interesting, but weird 🙂
You know. Sometimes I think, if matt recognizes my comments ,he must think I hate him or something. Because I almost always comment when I watch a video and it's got something I feel strongly enough to comment. But in reality, I've watched 10x more videos than I have commented on, and overall enjoy the videos.
8:47 - The one thing you really *should* regret is that soft 'g' in 'gif'. I know the creator of the format says it's pronounced that way, and they are wrong. It's always "Gif". Hard "G". None of this soft, wimpy 'g' in front of my salad thank you.😛 Jokes aside, good on you for admitting mistakes.
I appreciate the fact that you own up to your mistakes. We all make mistakes, but most people won't admit them because, for some reason, they think they'll be perceived as weak. Keep up the good work!
I'm not yet a subscriber, but I check in on your videos from time to time. You strike me as someone who is a legitimate user of Linux rather than some tourist who installs an OS in a virtual environment, then comments on the user interface. It's all about clicks and there is little to be learned. Ok, subscribed. If I knew about you when you made the Mint video, I'd be turned off because, it's feeds the stereotype of the Linux user and crap clickbait/ragebait nature of TH-cam. A perfect storm of NEXT!. There's nothing more infuriating than people mislabelling or generating false controversy for 'engagement'. It's like some modern version of the Tragedy of the commons. If enough people poison the platform for views, then eventually the platform is destroyed. I'm glad that you recognised that despite standing by your points, your presentation could be better. Apart from death threats that you yourself make, nothing justifies a death threat. Personally, I love Mint, but not to the point of violence. We have sportsball for artificial rivalries.
Weirdly enough, I find Linux Mint's boringness to be its strength. Think about it, do you really need the selling point of many other distros while, at the end of the day, you just want a computer that works?

We live and learn, but I think anything you upload is going to enrage someone and there will be crazies who will decide that you don't deserve to live. It's a grim reminder of how imperfect we are as a species. If I remember the Mint one, I think I was annoyed because the fact that it has a very high chance of working beautifully for the majority of beginners seemed to be unimportant to you compared to them violating some theoretical or logical notions of yours. I think I was civil though. (Fingers crossed.) 😉
imho, I keep giving them chances, but the entire Debian, Ubuntu, Mint ecosystem is sort of useless. I dont understand why people like them, they dont even function in my experience.
IMO Debian, Fedora, and Arch are the only distros that matter. I have fedora on my desktop and debian on my laptop, and they're both great. Used to use Arch on both, but when it came time to get a new SSD I decided I didn't feel like doing an Arch installation.
Pop_os is nice because it ships a newer kernel, backport and even develop improvements (like their scheduler) for desktop use and I can use it when I'm working on a ship where I might go weeks without internet. Having a newer laptop and gaming to kill time, It's perfect for a use case like this
@@KoopstaKlicca I'm normally not really interested in any of these downstream distros that are based on a distro based on a distro etc... but from what I've heard (never used it) Pop!_OS seems pretty cool based on a few things - their work on COSMIC being most notable. I get the impression that they're actually working on making a good system, where most distros just seem to be "We took Debian and installed a few extra packages, here's a new distro!"
nix is done, dude. they kicked the developer who made it good and now it is dying the slow painful death of DEI like Mozilla and eOS did. You have not been learning the right lessons my dude.

Especially about a Linux distro!
That's really overboard. Honestly, those people should be muted from Matt's channel.
If someone wants to hurt the Linux cast they must face me first.

Death threats over a distro? Wow! Btw, I use Linux Mint a d I am not offended :) you do a great job, Matt, cheers from Slovakia!

Mint/any preconfigured distro indeed useless to me (as minimalist). I expect ISO image (base variant) with size less than 1GB.
