I think the PPsH had such a legacy because it was only in WaW, a game which people didn't go back to often after BO1 dropped, and after BO2 almost abandoned entirely. On top of that, the average player still really sucked at the game so you weren't going to run into the damage falloff almost ever back then. Also, I do think the Type 100 is probably overall a better weapon, but was probably overlooked because of the side magazine blocking your view and because of the terrible ammo reserves. I'm introducing some friends to zombies that just missed the hype when it was dropping, and they were complaining about how bad the Type was. The guy bled out a few rounds later, and I let him spectate how fast a PaP'd Type takes out a round. He picked it back up after that lol.
Finally a CoD Zombies TH-camr that covers statistics. As a small Zombies TH-camr trying to get to high rounds its very nice to understand and know these kinds of things. Thank you man
Definitely not one of the top weapons in zombies history, but it seems like from a stats perspective (not considering wallbuy availability/location/etc.) it is one of if not the best in WaW zombies. That’s probably where the community opinion comes from.
Best performing bullet weapon in WaW zombies for sure, just not in all of zombies. WaW weapons unfortunately aren’t great, but they feel awesome to use.
I always knew the type 100 was a good weapon since I mostly use wall weapons before the box anyways, especially online when everyone is spamming box pulls
I think one of the reasons people have good memories with the PPSH is that it has the best of both worlds in terms of statistics. It has the ammo reserves of an LMG, but has the mobility of an SMG. And the lack of damage is somewhat made up by it firing so many bullets down stream. I think the PPSH is a fantastic early-mid game weapon. While the LMGs are better in terms of damage, early on the long reloads and mobility loss make the PPSH a more viable weapon. Not to mention people were not as good at zombies as they are now. I’m sure back then, getting to round 25-30 in WaW was seen as impressive, when now it isn’t. So that the drop off in effectiveness wasn’t as noticed. Plus, when compared to WaW and BO1 weapons, the PPSH is the best non wonder weapon gun at that point. But this is coming from a guy when first experienced the gun in Gorod Krovi and has never played WaW so my reasons might not be solid. But I am very impressed at the level of data collecting you showed. From the dps, mobility, and the overall efficiency of the gun.
As a matter of fact, the LMGs in this game do LESS damage than the PPSh. Meaning the PPSh is actually better damage wise than the MG42, Browning, FG42, (BAR does same Head Damage but shoots much slower). Type 100’s Head Damage is 1100 and is a wall weapon, so there’s the context as to why I was using it lol.
I think Yoteslaya might have something to do with this gun's reputation. I know back when I played WaW custom maps religiously, I always sought it out because it just seemed so cool. I mean, it was Yote's PP, how could I not pick it up?
As someone who hasn't played waw, i had heard about the legendary ppsh, but was sceptical about it. I thought "if this thing has such low damage, it must run out of ammo quickly even if it has 700 reserve." I also questioned if the bo3 version was as bad as people say especially since i could easily tell that the galil was obviously stronger in bo3 than in bo2/1. Thank you for confirming my speculation as correct.
Just for confirmation, the Bo3 Galil is not stronger than the Bo1/Bo2 version. The headshot damage is higher only to compensate for the slight health difference in Bo3. All 3 Galils stop 1 shotting at the same time, which is why I do the whole “10% tax” thing. However, the bo3 Galil does have more benefits such as, fast mags, 100% mobility, and having a cleaner red dot sight (in my opinion)
These videos are pretty awesome man, about weapons and og zombies I am loving them all, will definitely subscribe if you keep this up it's so entertaining. And based on the footage you showed, the WaW PPSH is clearly overrated. Still a great weapon, but not nearly as great as people think.
I hope eventually you’ll cover Infinite Warfare. I know not everyone thinks it as on par w/ Treyarch Zombies, but personally it is one of my favourite Zombies right after some of the Treyarch Zombies. The guns feel rlly nice and I think eventually should be a series you should explore.
Also in fairness, I do think it's important to consider the context of the game, maybe not in a "full series weapon tier list", but at least in defense of the PPSH's "Legendary" status in the community. To give an extreme example, if one game has a ton of really bad weapons and one excels massively compared to the rest, and another game has a ton of really solid weapons that are all better than the best of the other game, and one is only mildly better than the rest of this game, I'd still put the first game's best above the second game's best. Obviously very subjective to compare like this, but if one game has an expectation of surviving much less long than another, and one weapon breaks that more than the other, it certainly deserves its reputation. Now, all that said, it's clearly still overrated to some degree considering the Type 100 seems kinda close in how good it is, but hey I just wanted to say my piece anyways lmao
If I were to rank stuff like this, 1. It wouldn’t just be the PPSh, and ranking stuff like this would show clear bias to weapons such as the PPSh. 2. It would be far too subjective, completely going off topic from what the goal is which is the find the best performing weapons in zombies. 3. What you are suggesting is to look more into a list about what weapons are more “important” rather than which ones are actually better. If I were to actually do this (which I probably will at some point), the PPSh would be ranked lower because weapons like the Thompson are needed much more in high round games since they have wall buy spots, but considering the criteria of this series where performance is key and wall weapons don’t have an advantage unless nearly identical to box weapons, now we got a huge mess on our hands, all so we can find a reason to give the PPSh more credit, which again, shows bias I plan on doing various weapon series, this just happens to be 1st (referring to the Weapon Ranking Series, not Deep Dive). Unfortunately for the PPSh though, a series like this, where we dive deeper into stats and analytics, exposes the lack of effectiveness from the PPSh.
@@Eazy_P_40 Yeah that's all quite fair. In fairness, I was thinking more from a perspective of "is the PPSh massively overrated" than the context of a full series tier list. Was especially prompted by the comparison to the BO3 PPSh (though that still shocked me quite a bit lol) where even if the BO3 version is objectively better, the PP still sticks out from the rest much more in WAW (even if the Thompson is more important anyways lol). Regardless it's still definitely overrated to some degree, this was more just to defend it's iconic status in the community at least somewhat.
Man I'd love to see all these damage findings in a publicly accessible spreadsheet to compare the weapons more easily at a glance. If there's a way I could help that become a thing, let me know, cause I'd love to see it happen.
I think the problem with Black Ops 4 is that the recoil on the animations is so low and and the sound design for the weapons are so poor that they dont feel powerful at all regardless of their actual stats.
You say this like this isn't an issue bo2, bo3 and cw also have, I've always felt like the issue is that almost every gun in bo4 have absolutely atrocious muzzle flare
@@reggilad_9043 I feel like BO2 and CW had decent sound design. BO2 suffered from too much recoil in some guns. I'll totally give you BO3 though. But certainly theres something that just feels incredibly off about the BO4 weapons that makes them feel completely anemic.
@@PalindroneV2 again, I feel like it's the muzzle flare, firing fully auto weapons in that game is like standing directly in front of a firework display, I've gotten use to it but I feel like that's the reason people find them annoying to use, it could also be the fact that while most weapons in that game are good all of them pale compared to the salvo

Double Tap gets way too much hate. It is not a bad perk what soever. Think of it logistically; if a weapons has a faster fire rate, that means it shoots more bullets than the average gun, meaning more DPS, meaning you kill zombies faster. Double Tap simply increases your fire rate, meaning it increases your DPS, meaning it makes you kill zombies faster. The common rebuttal is that you run out of ammo faster. While that may technically be true for the most part, it doesn't matter all that much when you realize you kill zombies faster. Not to be rude, but I also feel that, for the most part, losing ammo faster is simply a skill issue. If you can't manage your ammo properly, than yes, Double Tap will make that task even harder due to the increased fire rate. But, if you can manage ammo, or you simple use a wall weapon like most people do, Double Tap is nothing but an increase in power to your arsenal. I believe it would fit in perfectly with the new style of zombies due to the lack of any way to significantly increase fire rate, as well as ammo being much more plentiful in the form of drops from zombies and crates around the map. A little long winded, but I just dislike the hate the perk gets and will never understand it.

Good question, sorry for the essay below lol I’m not including the health cap from Bo4, it will be more from a hardcore perspective (I play a decent bit of hardcore so I’ve been able to get a great feel for the weapons) From the health cap perspective I agree, it would be unfair, however, every Black Ops game has some kind of advantage that has been banned when compared to each other (Bo1 has Flopper, Bo2 has Perma Perks, Bo3 has GobbleGums, Bo4 has health cap, etc.) If Bo4 had other issues aside from the health cap (which is only on Casual and Normal difficulty) then I wouldn’t include it. Cold War is a hot mess of complexity, not to mention my experience in CW isn’t great (which is more on the side of my fault tbf). However, at the very least, I’ll start this series, and maybe I’ll gain the motivation to play a bunch of CW Zombies and approach those weapons.
