    I remember Hikaru no Go being like a nice little buffer between the rest in SJ as a kid, and some people calling it too boring (although sometimes it was ngl...) but it really sets the stage when the most boring manga in the whole magazine had a ghost coaching a kid in a game. Especially when there was a *different* manga from the same imprint that also had a ghost coaching a kid in game (s) but that kid got possessed entirely and almost killed a few times.

    • @NACentDSTM
      @NACentDSTM ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bro Hikaru no go was my shit and is so elite I watched that series so many times and the fact the moves are real makes it so much more enjoyable to watch multiple times . When I first watched I was a 30 kyuu a beginner so I watched it to just watch it and still loved it ,watched it again at 15 and it was a whole different experience and then later as a 1kyu almost Dan and was able to understand every little nuance of the show and it’s like a whole different world

    • @BlackWizardClub
      @BlackWizardClub ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NACentDSTM woah! I've literally never seen another Hikaru no Go fan, especially not one that actually played! Even though I never played myself I also thought the attention to detail was incredible. If I remember correctly they had nods to actual pros and would often include tips and breakdowns at the end of the chapter. I also liked that Hikaru grew into playing, didn't always win, and there was even a whole arc dedicated to Hikaru coming into his own and balancing Sai's desire to play. For a ghost possession series I know it's weird to say, but it felt realistic to the situation. Not everyone can be Yugi and Yami happily switching and totally cool with being possessed

    • @NACentDSTM
      @NACentDSTM ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlackWizardClub sad u didn’t get into playing at least alittle bit especially because it does change how you watch the show when you understand everything and why some moves are bad or great and especially now since there are a lot of go channels on TH-cam .but glad you at least enjoyed the show .and yes I believe almost everything game wise was moderated by I believe he was a …4 Dan Pro so everything is pretty accurate and you could learn a lot from it just watching it I swear I jump up at least 3-4 kyuu every time I rewatch the series. Also I’m not sure if I would call it ghost possession since sai can’t actually do anything with his body it’s more like a ghost ..sensei or I guess ghostwriter but for board games lol but I guess close enough .

    • @BlackWizardClub
      @BlackWizardClub ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NACentDSTM I was interested in playing but I'm an impatient person so it never went beyond interest 😅 Technically Sai does occupy a part of his brain, he just doesn't physically control Hikaru so it's a haunting turned possession in mind only. It's a really interesting take on possession. I was a big Yugioh fan, but I loved Hikaru and Sai's relationship way more than Yami and Yugi. The way Hikaru grows an appreciation for the game and in turn admires Sai skill to point he take offense to someone disparaging Sai's previous "student" makes it feel like an actual bond and not a "ghost and the kid he possesses" thing

      It kinda is saying a lot and saying nothing at the same time.
      First I think there is a misunderstanding. I guess people don't mean watching people do their taxes all day, but just how the story is written being "realistic". Like Lord of Rings feels very realistic due to the world being constructed very clearly and follows its own set up rules.
      And then, I think that it still makes sense why manga in SJ or most Shonen isn't realistic, he doesn't really explain anything. Like for instance of Shonen isn't realistic, of course it often will rather do the cool thing or bring characters back from the dead than the more "real" solution, because it's for teens. It's supposed to be cool, it's supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be escapism.
      Now that doesn't mean it cannot be differently or that the writing cannot seem believable.

    Okay, let's look at the genre of anime here.
    Shounen jump is a shounen anime manga publisher.
    Shounen anime is literally just anime directed towards young boys. Action and adventure type anime.
    What young boys have you met that want to read or watch a documentary?
    Now how about an over the top action film?
    Let's have these young boys read, idk, of mice and men... Do you think they would enjoy that more than, lets say, the hunger games novels?
    Usually shounen jump is biased towards young boys and their interests, what would entertain them more so they'll buy more manga.

      I joke with my friends about how the shonen jump app is only like £2 a month and they all find that concept ridiculous. Most of my weeb friends don't even read manga and if they do they pirate or buy the odd tankoban. Jump is still very much trying to style their magazines after the kids that actually buy it, not the anime fans that only care about a series once it's been animated.
      Dunno why a bunch of 20 something's expect a literal kids magazine to become seinen just because they grew up. Like there are magazines and independent manga that are aimed at that genre that they don't read either xD

      Agree, the ending was really awesome, which is something I cannot say for most of my favorite Animes! Although, MC's transformation from a murderer to someone who wouldn't let anyone die no matter what did not make much sense, even if he did went through a traumatic death of his girl!

      Underrated your ass. Child nowadays always use the word underrated when they dont talk to them about that specific stuffs everyday.
      Maybe use internet when the series WAS still ongoing. Its a completed series, so its obvious not many talked about this title anymore esp when the conclusion is pretty satisfying.

    It's not about realism or unrealism, it's about target audience. Shonen Jump mainly publishes shonen manga, ie manga for younger people, mainly teenage boys. When the content gets too mature, or violent or complex for a teenage audience it usually finds its place somewhere else. There's a correlation between shonen manga and fantastical settings but not causation

      not really when Slam Dunk existed in the 90s.
      not to mention Bakuman, and there are countless other examples especially with sports series and romcoms in Jump. Jump has a massive catalogue of series. Idk why people act like it's only battle shonen in Jump.

    If i wanted to experience reality, i would go out and watch people walk on the street. The very reason why i like manga and anime, as well as books, movies, tv shows, videogames is because reality for the most part is boring for me and i consider it a chore i have to endure to support my lifestyle. Yes, i live to experience joy of visiting fictional worlds and sharing these adventures with heroes and narrators and i'm not ashamed of it.

      @@lana_del_Rei.neet- No, this is a great take actually. What people think "realism" in storytelling is, isn't actually realism. True realism is antithetical to the very concept of storytelling. Stories are always constructed in a teleological way, meaning the author has some kind of goal in mind when they tell their story. That's what makes something a story. An underlying logic that connects the sentences you put to paper both on a small and large scale. It's what distinguishes your words from the incoherent ramblings of a madman or an AI.
      Stories are, inevitably, all about choices, they have starting and end points, arcs for plot and characters, themes they try to address. Reality doesn't do any of that. Reality is an almost entirely disconnected sequence of events that can only be rationalized post-hoc to appear like it's even somewhat cohesive. Reality doesn't start, it doesn't end, it doesn't follow along any kind of internal logic. In reality, stuff just kinda happens. In stories, everything that happens, happens for a reason.
      People who bellyache about a lack of "realism" in stories are just pretentious and can't admit to themselves that creating and consuming stories is ultimately always a form of philosophical escapism from the void of meaning that is the real world. Whether the story is more fantastical or more "plain" and grounded ultimately just amounts to different flavors of the same underlying thing.
