- A rescue effort is still underway for visitors stuck underground at a former Colorado gold mine that’s now operated as a tourist site, Gov. Jared Polis’ office said Thursday. Channel 2's Nate Belt is live from the scene where there has been some movement since sundown.

Took my boys there a couple of years ago, sad what happened today, the tour was pretty fun and was able to pick up some partial gold rocks at the end of the tour while in the mine. Keep the families in prayer!
I lived there for a few yrs. there is air circulation units in the mine so air quality should be fine and a lot of lighting if nothing has failed with that. There is also a HUGE open pit mining operation and they have equipment and skilled man power to get them. I worked for an under ground mine there it can be a bit unsettling. My thoughts and prayers go out to these folks and responders.

From what they’ve said, it sounds to me like a bunch of people were in the elevator when it dropped or crashed. One person was killed, several were taken to the hospital with back and neck pain. The people that are still down there had nothing to do with the accident. They have to make sure that elevator is safe to bring them out of there.
How did they retrieve those people, the injured?
Praying for the family of the soul that passed and all those still stuck down in the mine.

There is a drift that goes all the way to the town of Victor, where there is a way to get there, though it’s 3 miles through unlit tunnels.

I've also been on this tour. Many times. I remember taking it as a kid in the 1970s. Educational tour. I hope that the company survives this.

Ruby Falls, in Tennessee, has an elevator like that, but probably a good bit deeper. They also have a walk out emergency exit that opens up near a highway at the bottom of the mountain, in the event of the unexpected. I always at least found some comfort knowing I wouldn't be trapped if something happened.

Damn and I just visited a mine (alot smaller than this mine) last week. Some scenarios did go thru my head if things went wrong.

Forty nine years ago, a Friend who was a Boss in the Coal Mines took me underground on Labor Day, 1975. I got so scared he had to bring me out. I feel for these people who are stuck underground. Hoping this problem is solved soon.
