I'm back on the BDRs! Time to go for number twelve and take on the new Oregon BDR. Leaving from Fields, OR you quickly discover Southeast Oregon is high desert and challenging trails.
    Hello!
I'm Brady, AKA Mountainman, I've been a soldier, ski bum, police officer, government worker, photographer, and all around nomad. Now I travel on my motorcycle, make videos, and share them with the world. Along the way I do dumb stuff off road, camp, fly drones, take pictures, learn about culture and history and do my best to take you with me.
In early 2022 I set off on my motorcycle Yennefer (2021 Tenere 700) for an adventure with no set destination or timeline. Come along with me and let’s see what will happen as I try to ride until I can't.
    Bike: Yamaha Tenere 700
Luggage: Mosko Moto Scout Panniers, Backcountry Duffle, and Hood tankbag
Navigation: Carpe Iter Tablet and Drive Mode Dashboard 2
Cameras: GoPro Hero 11, Hero 9, GoPro Max, GoPro Hero 8, Skydio 2, DJI Mavic Air 2
Gear: Adventure Spec Jacket/Armor/Gloves/Pants/Base Layers, Alpinestars Toucan boots, Arai XD4.

Nice video! I think this might be the only ORBDR vid I've see where there were no complaints about sand or rocks in segment 1/2. I'm guessing many folks with the bigger bikes are the ones struggling the most.

It was definitely sandy and rocky, but I expected it. It is not an easy route by any measure.

Knowing yourself and what you're getting into helps a ton. We live in Central OR and do sections 3 & 4 regularly. It looks like the fires in section 7 forced you to miss Bennett Pass (at least I didn't see it in the vid) which is a shame. There are some great segments in there that might be worth returning to if you're back in OR someday.

@@skdemars Yeah they had the beginning of section 7 closed due to the fires. I enjoyed the hell out of the rest of the route.

    If you're interested....
Watching a WaBDR post of yours, the video would pause...appear to be spooling...but task manager told me no data was being transferred. I quit that vid, tried another of yours. Same thing. Reboot...look in 'services' for strange things (found nothing). Maybe it's the video?
Went on to a few other utoob vids which played fine. Back to another of yours awhile later? Same as before.
Nothing strange or odd about my configuration. A plain i5, intel video laptop with a 1080 screen. OS and programs (FF in this case) are up to date. What I use I doubt is pertinent to the issue, but maybe of some interest.
I don't know what you use for video and processing...and I am not inquiring as to what your setup is. I AM saying something is 'off' about it. That I've never encountered this issue in the past, that it is ONLY your videos...that should mean something.
Re: 'Ride 'til I can't' You bet! I full well understand and appreciate that point of view.
    Safe travels!

That's an internet thing, not a me thing. TH-cam might have had a server issue or something.

Did you find a decent camp site on Sec2? We're there in 2 weeks and thinking our first day would be similar to yours, thanks!

I stayed in an RV park off of the highway. There are quite a bit of viable spots on 2, but almost all will be dry camping.

@622paco as long as the snow is gone that should be a great time to go. I didn't do it in June because I was up at the Arctic Circle.

I feel ya. When we did the TAT somewhere in Mississippi or Arkansas we ran into several swarms of bees. No stings but what a mess and the constant concern of being stung.

That is the worst when the visor is up and they fly into the helmet and start to move

You have definitely seen some beautiful parts of the country. Can't wait to see a launch off the rounded cattle guard. Keep the rubber side down.

Nice, we'll be there soon 🙂Did you stop at DL springs? So far I've not seen any ORBDR rider videos of the spring, curious to know if it still flows during the hot summer months. Really surprised to see how unprepared some of the riders you meet appeared to be

Looking forward to the scenery and the adventures you bring us
I hope you are well and the help you give veterans is successful. My father was Air Force during Vietnam, and I can tell you it wasn’t easy for him. Thanks and prayers to you

In your experience, which is the least travelled of all the BDR routes? Too many close calls with oncoming bikes in Idaho last year, looking for a quieter ride. Looking forward to the rest of this series!

Good stuff, you're making this look relatively easy - other videos I've watched and the FB groups, people are really struggling with it...
Going to attempt it myself in like 10 days - light adv ktm 500 exc.

    • @MeerkatADV
      @MeerkatADV  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It was challenging for sure, I went into it expecting it to be hard and I think that helped. The groups that were having trouble seemed to expect it to be easy.

@@MeerkatADV Yeah, my run went pretty well, I had good conditions, not too hot, not too dry/dusty, and not too wet - had a little fog and rain over the mountain coming into Sisters and some of the tracks around Mt Hood were still closed.
I really disliked section 2 - maybe the worst of all the west tracks except for some of the stuff on the south part of Nevada. But section 3 north when you get into the Deschutes forest is where it really starts to get good.

Ah! You've heard that joke about the 3 preachers, the priest, the minister & the rabbi! Excellent! Looking forward to the next section. At my age, (almost 75) this one might be a little beyond me, but it's nice to be able to see what it looks like. What are the top & pants you're riding in?
