Can You Beat Pokémon White Using the Exact Team That Ash Used For Every Major Battle?

- Alright, it's time for Ash's brain to be reset to default dumb boy mode as we journey into Unova! The Pokémon Protagonist made things easy for us in Sinnoh but that surely won't be the case as we recreate the Best Wishes series. Today, we're asking the question, "can you beat Pokémon White (and briefly White 2) using the exact team that Ash used for every major battle?"
Sorry about the lack of videos lately. These Ash challenges just take a ridiculous amount of work so if I continue regular uploads then it would take like six weeks or more to finish each one. This will be the last one of these for a while. Sorting out everything with a 3DS is going to be something of a nightmare and trying to do that right now is just not an option. Instead, we'll back to regular challenges (although you know mine are never quite that simple).The next one will be in Pokémon Sword because I finally gave up on trying to fix the original capture card I got and just bought a new one instead. I'd say think of it as a Worst Diverse Team meets Solo Typing and it's probably going to take a while. I'm not sure why I decided on getting back into regular challenges with one this difficult but I've recorded eight hours so far and I'm not at the first Gym yet.

I'd also like to get a couple of Random Episode Challege videos done soon and of course we'll be continuing with the Random Card Challenge and the White 2 Randomizer Nuzlocke (eventually). Gen 5 was the only game where my starter hadnt evolved next

SW&SH is ridiculously generous when it comes to levels lmao. I had 3 level 30 Pokemon before I even finished the first gym because of raids
I’m replaying black and I had to level my whole (not great) team to ~18-20 for the second gym because I only had one fighting type (a throh)
I even gave myself a gothita from my w2 game to help but it was lvl 23 so I couldn’t control it T^T
For some reason I developed a need to have evolved my starter before taking on the first gym (I think I got it from HG/SS)

question: how did you change team members between cuts during the elite four challenge? doesn't the game block you from accessing a pc while facing the elite four if you aren't using hacks?

Whenever I play a Pokemon game, I mentally add in the extra action that would occur in a real Pokemon battle. It's clear from your narration that you do the same thing, and it's nice to see. I'm not alone, AND this makes it more interesting. Great video as usual!

When I was a kid, the anime helped me understand what happened during battles in the games. Now I visualize the anime when I play the games. Yeah the logistics of the game sometimes contradicts anime logic, but it's still fun.

DarkSoul 100 he likely didn’t and was part of the reason that these matches have to be replayed. We only see the ones that made the final cut

@@blitz4779 Yes, he took his place with Torterra as the bulky mon who was able to deal a lot of damage, but never got to live up to it's potential because it wasn't given enough screen time and was playing second fiddle to the fire starter
@@theannilators7479 difference is that krookodile actually won fights. Once turtwig evolved, it could barely keep up (literally. Meanwhile krokorok only really lost to skyla and when it evolved, it didnt lose at all

Ground-type does not resist Rock-type, so it's not uncommon for a Rock move to KO a Ground-type

The only playthrough I did I went through the game without ever evolving my starter because I had named him 'SolidSnivy', and I'll be damned if he didn't live up to that mantle.

9:42 Actually in the episode right after he gets Sewaddle it's made clear that he deposited Pidove (which comes back to the team the episode before evolving into Tranquill, sending in Scraggy IIRC)
There's so many replay you had to do for this generation thank you. 3 seperate save for 1st gym, had to play pokemon bw2 for poison gym, fighting 9 gym leaders , and 4 trips through the elite 4 to account for each one.

Yo if you get worried about running out of these, you can always try to use the pokemon teams in the pokemon adventures manga. They use some pretty interesting teams.

If I had to rank them from saddest to least saddest here’s what I would put
1.Tepig- he got his mouth tied up so he couldn’t eat by his past owner but still waited there even after breaking off of the pole he was tied to he ran around for days hungry unable to eat due to his mouth tied together and constantly being chased by trainers thinking he’s an umbreon and after he met his owner again he still thinks his old owner cares for him but the only revenge he gets on his old owner for almost killing him was a win against him in a unimportant pokemon battle
2.charmander- same goes for charmander except he was left outside in the rain which could also kill him but he had stuff to hide under to prevent that but he never got revenge on his owner except when ash slapped him
3.littin- he was homeless but had food and the person who always took care of him sadly died right before his eyes
4.chimchar- he was technically abused but not enough that he was left with bruises and he got some amazing revenge on his old owner who abused him
Your content is so soothing for me. Most pokemon content like this (usually) is louder. While I do enjoy that type of chaos during the day, sometimes I just need a honey-voiced playthrough like these. To top it off, this is the gen that got me started into this obsession.

John Christopherson I suppose, but think about it like this. Let’s say you were good something basketball for example. You’ve been practicing and playing everyday for years and kept getting better and better. Then at some point you decide to take a break from basketball for like a few weeks to a month. Once you decide to pick up basketball again, you’re for sure gonna be rusty and have to work your way back up to where you were before. That’s the way I see Ash’s transition from Sinnoh to Unova. I’m not trying to make you change your mind about anything you believe, but I just wanted you to see where I’m coming from

I love how exciting you make the battles with your narration. Especially the Skyla battle this time around, you really added some great depth to the "story" of your version of each battle.
I just realized. Gen 5 basically is like a reboot of Pokemon, the games closely followed the Kanto games... the anime basically did the same thing: three starters, empty brain, two gym leader friends etc.
Ya it was supposed to be some sort of soft reboot for the franchise

First time watching one of these videos and I gotta say, the commentary makes this something special. It's almost like a novel, it helps the viewer to really envision the battles, almost like the anime itself.

As someone who has lived in NYC where Unova is based off of. I love Gen 5’s accuracy, especially the desert between Lower Manhattan and Harlem. Also the Mountains of Queens are very accurate.
I remember the episode where ash battles clay it was a very imfamous episode for me since the day it aired was the same day my grandpa passed away from lung cancer it was very devastating for me but this episode prepared me for that inevitable passing so that’s why that episode sticks with me for the rest of my life
Cannot wait for the next part to this really fun series. Seriously you've brought an amazing idea and gave it so much life and entertainment it'd be a crime to not give you my respect. Here's to the next couple of generations. Seeing as the eighth gen of the anime is taking things in an entirely new direction I have a feeling we won't be seeing Ash do anymore gym battles. At least, not from what we've seen thus far.

I love this series. Always thought of the anime-game comparison when I was a kid. The videos are well done. I would have done the Club tournament in Ninbasa by editing the trainers and the League in the same fashion.
I had 20 mins before practice earlier in the day, and was deciding what to do before I went, I saw this uploaded and got really excited, but then sad cause I couldn’t finish it before I left- so I decided to save it for tonight, and I gotta say, I’ve been super looking forward to this video all day!

Ash can’t force a mon to evolve... the mon has to evolve themselves. If the mon really wants to evolve ash would gladly train with them to evolve. Mostly they’ll evolve through a trainers bond in the anime

Considering how bad everyone is stating ash to be in this series I didnt hear to many major complaints about his team choices for each gym
I think team choices were the least of everyone's concerns when Ash was making Kanto era mistakes in between the Gym battles.
His team comps weren't the issue really. It was ash himself that was the issue. Plus him using mostly first stage pokemon around people whe were using fully evolved pokemon did look right
I was so hyped by the comments in Sinnoth and this vid when they mentioned how brain dead ash is. And was a little let down a bit.
As much as people like to dunk on Best Wishes, it's really the turning point that changed the anime series for the better despite its rocky start.
Plus, I really love the wide variety of Pokémon Ash catches in Unova

This is a controversial opinion but I really love the gen 5 games and anime.
Same its what got me back into pokemon in middle school
In terms of the games it really isn't, at least not anymore. People tend to look back a lot more fondly on Gen 5 now, mostly in part to how underwhelming the games have been since Gen 6 (I have been feeling this deep down for a while, but it wasn't really until this generation where I actually noticed it).

In Red oak tells you that fire type starters are harder to train and require more effort, meaning that these trainers probably thought it would be a cool pokemon, without understanding how to actually care for it.

So I'm 3 minutes in and one reoccuring theme I've noticed is that all of these pokemon have really good IV's. Subtle way of giving yourself the best chance. I like it :)
