    You helped us to solve lot of questions. Thanks !
    I have question:
    What is the best (cheaper) way to “move” our money from our European-bank-account to our “new - Swiss-bank-account? (Transfer ? Cash? ATM?)
    Thanks for your help and best wishes

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hiya! 😊 Thank you, I'm really glad the videos have been useful for you.
      We brought a little bit of cash (around 3000CHF) and transferred around 6000CHF with TransferWise. From what I know TransferWise has quite good conversion rates (better than your local bank) and they only change a very small transfer fee. So it's the cheapest money-moving method I have ever used.
      If you use this link, you can get a free transfer up to 600CHF. (but even over that amount, the fee is very low) wise.com/invite/u/erikav245
      Some people use Revolut, as it seems to be more of a worldwide bank, so you can look into that option as well.
      But in general I would say that if you can, don't move all your money here, it's best to keep your eggs in different baskets, as they say. Plus from what I hear the interest rates in Switzerland are low, so if you have an account elsewhere and you are earning some interest on it, keep most of it there. Also, I think over a certain amount your money will count as wealth in Switzerland and you will be taxed on it (see article here- www.taxolution.ch/swiss-wealth-tax-explained/#:~:text=The%20Swiss%20wealth%20tax%20is,0.2%25%20and%201%25%20percent. )
      Good luck with your move and let me know, if you have any other questions. :)

    Hi and congrats for your channel! I plan to watch all of your videos! I have a question about the translation of the documents. Did you translate them somewhere officially? If so, have you done this in CH or before moving there?

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! And hope you find the videos useful!😊
      So for us we didn't actually translate anything. The only slight issue I had was with a copy of my birth certificate, which is in Latvian. But I pointed to where my mother's and father's names were and since they were written with latin letters, the admin person agreed to register this information as is, without translation.
      I think if your documents are not in one of the Swiss languages, English or not written with latin letters then there might be an issue. I imagine this would be with documents like marriage and birth certificates. You would need to get an official notarised translation, probably easier (and cheaper) to do that in your country than in CH.

    Thank you so much for these helpful videos. I was wondering what do you mean by or how do you get a permit application confirmation? We have submitted the documents to the Canton via email and they have sent an email saying that they have forwarded the documents onto the relevant department. Is this the permit application confirmation or is it something else? Thank you :)

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Sorry, I'm not sure, because here we don't have the option of applying by email. But normally when you apply in person they give you a piece of paper that says that you have applied, which has your name, the date, etc. on it. I would guess that they should send you the same sort of thing either by email or in a letter (Swiss love sending letters). And I don't think that just saying that they forwarded your request is the application confirmation. Have you received anything at this point?
      There can be a quite a long delay, since I guess they get tens if not hundreds of emails a day, so it can take time to properly treat your demand. If you don't hear from them, I would recommend sending another email, calling or even going there in person.

    I applied for city registration and I have to wait for some more weeks. Should I get the health insurance in the meantime? Or wait until my city registration is done?

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      By city registration, do you mean you applied for residency permit?
      Normally you are given 3 months after arriving to Switzerland to sort out your health insurance.
      However, I think you should get your health insurance already. Because if you don't have it and you urgently need medical care or have an accident, then things can become stressful and complicated.
      The health insurance company might ask you for your permit but you'll just have to say that you are in the process of getting it and just show the application confirmation document.

    i dont understand why you have b permit but not allowed to work? can you explain more?

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are different types of B permits. My permit says I can't gain money in Switzerland in any way. If I want to start working, I have to get a job with a signed contract and bring that to the council to re-apply for a new permit.
      I talk about my permit story in more detail in this video: th-cam.com/video/txrVIf88W9Y/w-d-xo.html But the truth is, I don't really know why I got given this permit and the authorities didn't explain it to me either.

    Thank you so much for all your videos, they are very informative and well done. At 5:37 where you list the requirements for the residence permit. Do you think that booking from a hotel/AirBnB/serviced apartment enough for the authority as "address confirmation"? I am moving for work and plan to live in AirBnB or something "ready to move in fast" for the first month or 2, but will still need the permit before my job start. Thanks again

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, glad they are useful for you. 🙂
      I think it should be enough. If in the cantonal office they say it's not, you might want to then ask for your 'host' to write you a letter saying you are living there, for how long, etc. But in any case, many people do exactly what you are planning to when moving to Switzerland, so you won't be the first person like that they'll have to deal with. 😂

    • @obsidianregaliapoppy7662
      @obsidianregaliapoppy7662 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OurSwissAdventure Thanks for your answer. Do you know the name of the "letter note" you need from your host? Is it a form that I can download (if so, please where/what is the official name, so I can google it) or is it just a written letter?
      Thank you so much.

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@obsidianregaliapoppy7662 I just meant a freely written hand-signed letter.🙂
      There is an official form that our host filled in to actually register us in the apartment (link to an example here - www.chaux-de-fonds.ch/statistiques/Documents/Autorisation%20de%20logement.pdf ) but not every host would want to sign it, especially if they are still technically registered in the apartment, since it can cause them more problems.
      I would say try to register for the permit with just the booking confirmation, and if that is not enough, progress with the letter or that form.

      @@OurSwissAdventure Hi Erika, yes that's correct, because they came with different reason, B for wealthy, B student, B worker, B new refugee...but as soon you got a job contract they will give you the B for work, permits are issued by the canton and could be a little bit different in other canton, some as still A permit that allows you to work for a season...I use lycamobile too because when you go around Europe there are some plan without roaming charging. Bank Cler 2 fr x month whit e set, but you pay for the maestro card, that allow to pay mostly everywhere, and i used Coop supercard Mastercard credit card without year cost. Make a video with the new agreement between UK and Switzerland what as change for working in Switzerland for a non EU resident...if it's something as change, ciao from lugano, 😊😊👋👋🇨🇭🇨🇭

      Luckily for us, Mike's job contract wasn't affected. But the new agreement between UK and Switzerland is something that we still need to understand. I might make a video about it, if we figure out what the new rules are haha!😅

  • @athanasiostsiafakis8824
    @athanasiostsiafakis8824 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi again! I have another question? Can I start all the steps more or less the one after the other with the sequence you mentioned? Is there any step that has a prerequisite? Eg can't open bank acc if haven't applied for resident permit

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much, but obviously some can happen around the same time. I think whatever order you do them in, at some point someone will tell you that you need to provide something that you don't yet have. Just because Switzerland is a bit like that.😂 Most of the time I think they ask for a permit when you don't yet have it and you can just say that you have applied for it/are in the process of getting it and can provide it as soon as you get it. That's what happened when we applied for a bank account and a permanent flat. For the bank account, they charged Mike an addition foreign tax resident's fee (I think it was around 20CHF a month) until he got his permit (the account was in his name). And for the apartment application we both wrote 'in progress' next to the permit type. (Once you apply for a permit they give you a document that confirms that you have applied, which is useful to show in situations like this.)
      And also, if you get a SIM that is on some monthly payment contract, you might need to have a bank account already set up here. That's why I recommend getting one of those top up cards (like Lyca mobile) at least just for a start, because you can buy credit in the shop.
      Essentially your main building blocks are: some address to get post to, permit and bank account - once you have those three you can pretty much sail easily through any Swiss bureaucracy.😅

    • @athanasiostsiafakis8824
      @athanasiostsiafakis8824 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OurSwissAdventure thank you so much for your detailed reply! It really helps. Do you know if a prepaid sim card number can be transfered to contract later? Last but not least, my new employer provides me accomodation for a month and they have already recommended me that when I will apply for residence permit to use the address of the hotel. However I worry if they send anything to this address after a month thay I will not be there. At the same time a friend of mine who is there he recommended me to sign an agreement between us that I stay there with him and use his address. I don't know what's the best option. Do you have any opinion on this topic? Thank you!

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome! Any number can be transferred to any network, so yes.
      Both options could work. I think for just the permit, if you apply for it straight away after arriving, you should get an invite to go pick it up fairly quickly, in 2-3 weeks. However, you need to think about all the other things you might apply for as well, and all that post you will receive. You can always change an address for any of the applications/agreements you make though.
      Sorry, I can't tell you which one is best, but you can make both options work.🙂
      As for staying with a friend or not, it's up to you, whether you feel you'll be comfortable there or not.
      Also, where are you moving to? If it's somewhere like Zurich or Lausanne, 1 month might not be enough to find a place, so you might want to think about a contingency plan for after that first month (which could be staying with a friend).

    • @athanasiostsiafakis8824
      @athanasiostsiafakis8824 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OurSwissAdventure thank you! I will not stay with my friend. Accomodation is offered for free for one month as part of relocation package. The question is more about the address that I am gonna use in the applications. This is why my friend offered to sign an agreement with me that I will be staying there so as I use his address for all applications. The employer recommends to use the address of the hotel for registering myself for the residence permit. But I am wondering if bank for example would accept such an address. No worries, I will also check with employer about it. Many thanks for all your responses and keep up the good work. You help many people like me

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I see I see! Sorry, I wasn't sure exactly what you meant.
      If your employer has other foreign employees (which is very likely), then they have probably seen how everything happened for other newcomers previously, so you can trust their advice. And for the bank, all they care about is that the address is the one, where you can actually receive mail.
      Thank you, I'm happy to help.😊 Hope your move to Switzerland goes as smoothly as possible!
