--------------- EXPLANATION OF THE TEST ---------------
* the average American smoker smokes a pack a day. That's 20 cigarettes.
* 450,000 a year die in the USA from smoking. 7 million a year WORLDWIDE
* this was not a scientific test. It shows you visually what comes out of smoking just one cigarette.
Multiply this by the number you smoke and you get the picture.
* this is what gets past the so called "filter" on the cigarette!
* the escaping water creates a suction to "inhale" the cigarette.
* the entering water creates pressure to "exhale" the smoke.
* I think everyone agrees we must do our part to give kids a good start with a healthy life and do our best to prevent youngsters from taking up these poor habits. If you smoke tobacco, use a vape pen or smoke cannabis, never let children or kids see you do it. If they see an adult doing it, they think it's ok. Make sure you are out of sight at home, at schools, outside of arenas or at parks .

Hmm I wish they had showed us something similar to this. It really helps put into perspective how bad smoking is and why we should refrain from doing it :(
It also affects others too, not just through passive smoking (I think that's what it's called) but through your death which _could_ be caused due to excessive smoking
Your teacher was giving the kids second hand smoke exposure to tell them not to smoke?
My mom told us not to smoke as we were driving around with the windows closed as she smoked. I think its the same lesson.

Thank you for sharing and I hope this opens some eyes! Entire, chunky black blobs - that was the ‘lung butter’ in my lungs!! Soon after quitting you will breath better, taste better, smell better, and feel better!!
Makes me think of how tough our bodies can be. They usually give us signals so we can change our habits in time. Nowadays we also have the info to know better. It's up to us to change (this also applies to any addiction). If anyone reading this is trying to get out of an addiction, be certain that you can make it, no matter how hard it might seem. You need to routinely 'feed' the thoughts that will help you out of it and never keep your guard down. If you got into it, you can get out of it!

I also started smoking both cigarettes and weed at 12. I never liked weed so quiting it was easy, but cigarettes is another story. Tried to quit them twice, never managed to not smoke for over a year. I am 20 now and I will not quit smoking anytime soon, so I limit my self to 1 pack (20 cigs) per 10 days. My healt with this "low" daily dose has improved a lot. At least now I am coughing for only half a day not all the time xD.
Don't get too excited. My mum died at 54 from lung cancer.
@TeamSteve Ward bro, u did not have to put such negativity thoughts into his mind💀
I mean there are some flaws in the example. You don’t always inhale all of the smoke, you exhale it instantly and some of it doesn’t enter the lungs. Leaving the smoke in the bottle kinda infused all of the soot onto the cotton ball especially if the cigarette was right next to it. Also a cotton ball has MUCH less surface area than human lungs so more soot collects on a smaller area making it seem like more.
Cool video though and i really like how you used gravity to pull smoke in.
I guarantee living in a city is worse for your lungs than being a moderate smoker living in the country.
@@loganstratholme No. There isnt nicotine in city air, is there?

Is it addictive??
@@shaikhakbar7023 For me it got more addictive as years passed. I first smoked in 2010, then I started smoking almost everyday from 2014 up to 3 months ago when I decided to quit. During the first years I didn't feel addicted to it and did it as a social thing (college years), I felt I can quit anytime, which I did a few times for like 1-2 months because there were periods when I wasn't outgoing, so there was no trigger for me to do it. Around 2017 I became more addicted to it as I also started smoking at home, which made things worse. I felt I had no more control over it and I had MANY attempts to quit (which lasted no more than 3 days). When I really succeeded is also when I changed the environment, I went to live with my parents for a few weeks and there I didn't feel the need to smoke at all. When I came back from my 3 week vacation, I was also doing a conscious effort to stay smoke free since I was already off cigs for 3 weeks. From that moment it got much easier. After a month or two, I think I had a few puffs again and I felt sick immediately, which was the moment I was sure I never wanted to smoke cigarettes again. For me, it seems like it's psychological addiction triggered by cues. Hope this helps someone. ;)
Congratulations man!!

Smoking is obviously very bad for your health but unlike a cotton ball, the lungs repair themselves. Smoking in extreme moderation - a cigar once a month or a cigarette every week or something like that - doesn't really classify you as a smoker. Now if you smoke every day, your lungs can't keep up. So if you want to indulge, do so in moderation.
Excellent demonstration!

The filter actually did a way better job at getting rid of the tar than I expected. That yellow staining is mostly nicotine which isn't the most harmful part of smoking.
The real killer is the tar, just one doesn't do much harm but it builds up over years.
Also chemicals used in the tobacco to aid combustion have many carcinogens in them.
Lots of rolling tobacco also contains chemicals to prevent it from drying out too much.
If you don't want to quit it is a good idea to switch to an additive free rolling tobacco.

Thank you for the video! I am glad you did an experiment on the video showing how much just one cigarette can harm your breathing and lungs. Thankfully, it's a habit that I never started. I understand that it can calm many people's nerves but whenever I want to calm my nerves, I would rather do something creative like either painting or just quietly looking at my favorite books. As for all the people poking fun at this video, they are just being immature badasses. As for me, it is already hard enough to breathe out in the summer heat being 100 degrees or more so why would I want to create even more stress on my body and lungs by starting the habit of smoking when there are many more other ways to control my anxiety? The idea of smoking never appealed to me, even though I always wanted to "look cool" that's just my opinion on the whole matter. I wish that none of my grandparents ever smoked or chewed tobacco, of course I don't remember if they did it that much or not but I have seen firsthand how it can cause an old man to struggle to breathe and even cough or even get a disease that is ten times worse that is life threatening because when your lungs are in danger, basically your whole body is not going to last much longer unless something can be done to save you after being rushed to the ER. Trust me, the wellbeing of your lungs is NOTHING to fool around with.

@ThisIsSomeSortOfParank?! nygers There could possibly be a *slightly* better way to word that. Anyone is capable of seeing the logic behind ingesting a substance - no one is willing to actually try and solve the problem.
"I hope you find the education and willpower that helps *you* to quit smoking, Not all messages work for everyone"
Neither of you are capable of saying if he is right or wrong. This is a single video on the internet of some household supplies & a cigarette from an unknown source. I totally understand what he was trying to do, but its the fact that he's trying to make millions of people & decades of addiction seem so easy to understand. He's likely never suffered an addiction.
Tobacco use is some very serious shit and smokers almost always have more than enough education to make the choice. But knowing something hurts you doesn't mean you're just gonna stop it. This doesn't even begin to tackle the problem of addiction or withdrawal. I wonder how many freaked out and tossed their smokes, only to suffer and relapse?
It's because people need HELP not just someone speaking from the outside. Perhaps this could prevent one to start, but you ever think of how this can affect a former smoker? Anytime an addiction is beat, all those 'addiction help' ads with pictures of needles and pills is a REALLY big problem. Such things are silently harmful because no one speaks up, they just tell them its *their* problem.
The reason this video is controversial is because of the vastly different perspectives. Everyone wants to be right, but we gotta have understanding. In the future, I hope you can find some consideration for an individual speaking negatively. He simply said it didnt have a positive affect on him. With 2.3 million views, there will be plenty that do not feel the same way.
I do hope a follow-up video is posted addressing the concerns. I know OP likely meant well. But wanting to do the right thing doesnt mean you're doing it in the right way. There's gonna be problems with every idea or message, but it seems that he may have missed the point of smoking. No one thinks its good for you, no one wants a pack of smokes in their pocket.
This is just a lab experiment that shows the function of material deposition. There is no connection with humans to be made here. It's simply inaccurate to assume that observing a controlled effect will carry over to an entirely different scenario. He made the video more because he thought it was interesting, but maybe he didn't realize how TH-cam can be about a subject.
He is not addressing smokers or anyone really. If you smoke, don't watch this. He used a questioning title about a serious subject. Either he doesn't really know and understand, or if its actually meant to attract more debate.
@ThisIsSomeSortOfParank?! nygers(I know the meaning of 'rhetorical', but I have a problem lol)
Partially from passion, but also just because there's never an ideal place to talk about sensitive topics, so technically, they should be discussed everywhere. I really hope I did causes any addiction triggers for anyone, apologies if so.
You're ready the heavily-slimmed version btw... also I appreciate you giving your opinion, it's my hope that if someone does disagree, they will let me know. I want to continue learning if I plan on educating.

I actually really liked that part, makes it really easy to replicate on your own.
Its a gravity bong
Jerardo Palacios that’s what I was thinking
Yeah that was cool
Waterfall bong
Thank you, This helped me with my homework
ima show my uncle this video, he has smoked for years, has had to go to the hospital because of smoking and many other things
guys... he is just proving that cigarette damages you. no matter what. even if this may be "unrealistic" , the point is cigarettes destroy you.
No shit
Thanks for the clarification
Thanks for that information
Tyler Wilson
Hey buddy thanks for assuming without knowing!
But I’m not a smoker I am clean and never will be !
I have friends who smoked for 20 years and not one of them smoke a cig and keep it in their lungs.
They smoke to feel “ normal “ again and I understand where this video are going. And how it hurts the lung.
But anyways no need to argue right?
You didn’t know it’s okay.
Have a bless day and life.
@Tyler Wilson i don't smoke lol
I smoked for 10yrs until 2010. Every parent should show their children this video so they can see what smoking does to lungs.
Thanks for that! It's a good basic video to show that this is entering your body.
Van the Man hooh now i must smoke one
I showed this to myself. It didn't work
I'm 16 I just watched it and think this is good to influence
You do understand that plastic bottle will have an entirely different effect
Thank you 😊
Didn’t even notice the fact he’s using the top rubber of some type of football where you pump air. Smart guy💪

Keep it up!
I stopped January 4.

I already knew how bad cigarettes were, but I m never knew one child do perfectly show it. I need to save this!
I'll show this to the men at my mother side family, they're all smoking
I think you should show them this one after this one.................This will really wake them up............... th-cam.com/video/HD__r66sFjk/w-d-xo.html
Piccolo Sama The God Of Destruction I love weed but I prefer to smoke RARELY. My state legalized people to smoke weed
They gonna smack u
Piccolo Sama The God Of Destruction you think this video would be any different with weed? lol
Also show them the one from asap science the progression of them stopping smoking
Great youtuber that cares about your health!
Thanks for that!
Chris Notap np
So you must know that everyone smokes a cigarette by taking 1 massive hit. This guy is an idiot who has no idea how to perform an experiment.
SevaLux
Doesn't matter how people smoke cigarettes. They still reck your lungs.
@@trustworthy_hypocrite1838 so does breathing the polluted air
I watched this because I was curious to try just 1 sigaret in my life but this demotivated me to even try it once in a lifetime
I really appreciate his work. 👍👏
I smoked my last cigarette in 2011/12/31. Since 2012 without cigarettes😊👍
Congrats! Never ever look back!
@@chrisnotap NEVER! Now I have a no-smoking wife. She would kill me when I would start again🤣🤣 so don' t worry
Doc Brown great strides man. I smoked one in my teenage years cause of a bit of peer pressure lol but never touched one again.
@@waynewayne8419 that was the best way: never start. I only had the 2nd best option to stop immediately 👍😊
Congrats, I stopped in 2/2011. After 30+ years. Best decision I made for myself
I know this sounds crazy but they should show this video at school so the kids so that they know
(Thanks for the likes lol)
In the UK we did a very similar experiment in primary school
NamjoonsCrabsTT that's not crazy at all
Everyone knows smoking does this but its just that no one cares
lol they did 4 me
my science teacher showed us one of these videos
Whenever somone smokes a cigarette, I hold my breath as to not breathe the smoke in.
Interesting explanation
Damn I’m happy my lungs aren’t full of water or cotton or else I’d be screwed
damnnn😂😂😂😂
I-
XD same
I'm glad my lung ain't made of plastic
Same 💀
Plot twist: His neighbors were watching him recording this experiment while smoking😂
I imagine his neighbours smoking a lot & throwing smoke into his backyard and this a response
@@Maflongas and bang. He got rid of those neighbors soon because they're dead of cancer
@@Maflongas Lol!
@@rihansa199 that crap was fkin dark but true at the same time
plot twist: he is smoking himself while recording
Nice experiment
Good demonstration. Do more with cigars, pipes and weed. Would love to see what weed deposits into the lungs.🤔
Gravity bong cigarette lol
I was thinking the same thing
Will McCabe imagine hitting that 🤢
YOU WOULD LITERALLY DIE HITTING THAT way too much nicotine at once fuuuck that broski
No you would not die. You may get a little sick for a cpl mins but you would not die.
Jeremy Weatherspoon It’s a joke
11 years ago , my best friend's cousin on his death bed, due to throat cancer from excess smoking, made me and my best friend promise that we will never smoke in our life. Back then as a 13yr old teenager not understanding the importance I got pissed at him for making me do so.
Now , Keeping up with the promise till Today, i thank him every time i see someone smoke.
Thats really sad but I am do glad that my parents told me never to smoke st such a young age
@@mikejuggernaut9891 Well, my parents did so too, guess what happened?Im not addicted at least, I can go weeks without one but I still like them.
@@JoaoSousa-ek7gx You should probably stop because thats how addiction comes first its trying then its likeing then its addiction
@@mikejuggernaut9891 i hate that things
