Steam & Snow @ Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Steam Gala 2023

- On Thursday 9th March I visited the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for their first day of their Steam Gala 2023. It was a very snowy wintry day but added to the atmosphere.

Those scenes are reminiscent of years long gone sadly.

Brilliant photography, made more atmospheric with the snow and lifted the steam. I was there on Thursday and Sunday, Thurs was even more special as the afternoon the snow stopped and the sun came out adding the the effects. Everyone did an excellent job at the WVR, a memorable gala.

Reminds me of going on holiday when I was a child in the 50s and early 60s. We went from Leeds to Anglesey and from Bradford to Kings Cross, invariably by steam train. The Kings Cross service was the Yorkshire Pullman - getting the holiday off to a good start with lunch on the train Wonderful days.
Great filming and capture of the atmosphere. I imagine that your work clothes will pick up a particularly dense aroma after the day's work is done. Tough job but someone's gotta do it.

Can't remember where I got it, (I think a friend gave it to me) but I have a tea towel with all these stations (and a map of the line) on it. I'm looking at it now as I'm watching your video. Well done for sharing this.

Hello it was up and down the Keighley Worth Valley Railway in West Yorkshire. It starts just north of Bradford and runs further out into West Yorkshire. Shot along route at Oakworth, Oxenhope and some footage at Keighley.
Be nice to see a loco named after Bernard Cribbins.

Fantastic weather for a winter gala. Only why didnt they put the L&Y carriages behind the L&Y loco. Look like someone wasnt thinking.......
Couldn't have asked for better weather :). With all the snow and running about I never noticed the coaches.
Was that old photo to do with the great freeze of 1962-63, which I well Remember or the film the Railway Children the Remake again I Remember
This engine crew must be brave souls as I did not see a cab enclosure for them.

I can tell you from experience it wasn't a bit romantic in the early 60s shoveling coal into a clapped out steamer all night. These engines must be a pleasure to drive and fire as they look in tip top condition. I did drive a class 31 named Keighley and Worth Valley Railway a couple of trips over this line on naming day. Anyone know if the nameplates survived?
Fabulous photography but always told, a fireman who lift the lid (blow off) needs to go back to school.
That's all wasted steam blowing out, but when you need to put on a show, you need to have full steam available.
