I was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 63. Symptoms were tremor in right leg, loss of handwriting ability,My normally beautiful cursive writing was now small cramped printing and soft voice. I also had difficulty rising from a seated position and have balance issues. I started out taking only Azilect, then Mirapex, and then Sinemet. Several months ago I started falling frequently, hence the reason for Sinemet. During the summer of 2021, I was introduced to Health Herbs Clinic and their effective Parkinson’s herbal protocol. This protocol relieved symptoms significantly, even better than the medications I was given. After First month on treatment, my tremors mysterious stopped, had improvement walking. After I completed the treatment, all symptoms were gone. I live a more productive life. I was fortunate to have the loving support of my husband and family. I make it a point to appreciate every day!

Awesome! I was wondering if you could do a video about cognition and interventions to address different cognitive problems? I feel like this is an area I get stuck in quite often as an OT!

Very helpful, thank you OT Rex. I've a question though. What if the patient with PD (wheelchair bound) has elevated extensor tone in the neck, are there any OT intervention for it? Should we have exercises to decrease it before the activity or is medication the only treatment we can give?

I'm just seeing this Ashley! It would depend on the patient's level of tone and other relevant medical/occupational history but you're on the right track. There are muscle relaxing drugs that can be utilized. From an OT perspective, we can help the patient work on routine gentle stretching such as yoga (within physical limits), use heat packs or hot baths, and other home programs/modalities to help decrease stiffness while keeping them safe. I found a neat breakdown here: www.ninds.nih.gov/Disorders/All-Disorders/Hypertonia-Information-Page
