Eminem isn't for everybody. Sometimes his music struggles to connect. But if ur a hip hop enthusiast, lyricist you'll appreciate his work as far as lyricism is concerned. I really wish Eminem fans would step off of their high horse. Stop assuming that because Eminem's music doesn't connect to others it's because they don't value lyricism. The rhymes on Revival were basura, but most importantly, it just doesn't sound good. The beats, his flow, and his delivery was so bad on Revival and a lot of his other post-Eminem Show material that even if the rhymes aren't bad, everything else makes it unlistenable.

The man grew Vlad. When the Eminem Show came out, the media was concerned with the change in tone of the album from the previous two. Even I was thrown off by it. It took me a several listenings and many years for me to realize that it was one of his most well-rounded albums. The "screaming" cartoonish violence and humor was toned down completely and he really wrote from a calmer "searching inward" state of mind. We're just so used to everything from Relapse and up where he's rediscovering his sound and he's going back and forth with his style. If you go from the SSLP to the MMLP to the Eminem show, you see transformation. On can argue Recovery/MMLP2 took that a step foward.

The man grew Vlad. When the Eminem Show came out, the media was concerned with the change in tone of the album from the previous two. Even I was thrown off by it. It took me a several listenings and many years for me to realize that it was one of his most well-rounded albums. The "screaming" cartoonish violence and humor was toned down completely and he really wrote from a calmer "searching inward" state of mind. We're just so used to everything from Relapse and up where he's rediscovering his sound and he's going back and forth with his style. If you go from the SSLP to the MMLP to the Eminem show, you see transformation. On can argue Recovery/MMLP2 took that a step foward.
I think from the time Em came into the game until now the bar hasnt only been highered, the bar has been put on top of a skyscraper. There are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many lyrical people that are being exposed at a rapid pace on social media. Its impossible to keep up with them all. When the bar is THIS high now, its going to take some real real real shit to impress people.

Hip-hop is more than just lyricism though. There are plenty of rappers whose rhymes aren't as intricate as Eminem's, but I enjoy their music a lot more. If the music doesn't resonate with me sonically, I can't fuck with it no matter how lyrical it is because it doesn't pull any emotion out of me.
