After forty years of Norfolk league cricket, I find myself in a wheelchair due to a neurological disease. I cannot tell you how much I would love to play in a codgers game like this. The young guys who miss games at a whim don’t realise how long they will be in their armchairs.
@@davidtapp3950 Thank you David. I have a very similar condition. I resisted using a walking stick until the number of falls kept increasing. While it is easy to laugh at this sort cricket it is such an important part of the game and club survival. As a junior the road into adult cricket was largely though the Sunday second team. The Sunday 2nds was largely a mixture of players at either end of the age spectrum making it highly entertaining, after a privileged life of good wickets and outfield of good quality junior cricket you had the shock of seeing the oppo fly mowing their wicket, or a team mate sieving through grass cuttings to try and field the ball only to realise it had gone down a rabbit hole. It keeps people in the game though. After I left cricket for Triathlons and bike racing I went back and played a few games for my old club who were generally fluctuating between County Premier & Div 1. The sole Sunday game had become another league game. This meant there was no longer an opportunity for those great club players that had either passed their prime or had more love for the game than talent for it. On paper the club was in a strong position doing well on the pitch, but when the imported talent left there were fewer of those greater club players about to fill the gaps.
If anyone asks you, "whats cricket like in England?" show them this, this is peak Village English Cricket and its bloody fantastic!! (Also what was Lance in his day? Bat, Bowl Bit of everything?)
Thanks for the kind words - you’ve described exactly what I’m trying to capture! Lance was a very good bat who could also bowl a bit and also kept wicket. Very good all round sportsman and plays golf off 6. Tells crap jokes, though, and drinks shandy! Nobody’s perfect….
Love the codger carnage and like herpes the Cornish Kohli returned , Matt Harris "keeping" an axe thrower and more pies thrown here than anywhere in history the only thing missing from this beards, bouffants and bald spots was Del he would have been in his element here ... great stuff Dan and well done to all the codgers for still having a go
I guess the opposition wore helmets as protection against some of the grenades that were bowled by Sanderstead😉 I have asked the nurse to change my medication because, for a moment, I thought I saw Matt Harris scoring a fifty😳
Fabulous, and I think the term is cricketing terminology is 'Fartistic' - this is proper cricket and what the multitude want to watch, and hear Dan's marvellous commentary on, most. Three dogs and several prone gentleman perchance?
Could be new Olympic sport. Arthiritic running. I think the Archbishop would be a contender. A cow going down for the night could describe some of the fielding. Matt Harris for England
90 odd ducks is bloody impressive, the most at my club is only about 50 odd in 300 odd games, dunno how our duck leader got that lucky tbf. Hopeless with the bat, wasnt much better with the ball, or in the field...... or in the bar for that matter.

Please forgive a noob question - what is a ‘red inker’?
@@limeyfox traditionally, a red inker is a not out score, thus enhancing a batsman’s average score in a season or career.
