from 2:30 - 2:50 he's singing and playing a lead solo simultaneously, now THAT, is something I've never seen before, and doubt very much I'll see again.
Actually that's something that I do when performing too. Believe me, it's difficult, but it's a matter of "divorcing your hands from your mouth". And having said that, you're right, you don't see it too often.
This was the first Interactive live concert ever! Home viewers responded on their cable box which song they wanted to hear. Qube was the experimental cable company involved. Musically historic and a great show!
I was also at that show. While setting up, Todd came over to my group of friends and told us we were making history tonight with the first Interactive concert ever attempted. Another successful Todd experiment!
Yes I had a white with red pick guard, I believe a 65 or 66. I also sold mine and really regret it. But who knew a mustang would appreciate so much! Back in the late 70s , they were very inexpensive. My main guitar now is a surf green mettallic fender statocaster, stock except for hotter pickups.
Thanks for posting this great version of a great song! Interesting hearing this next to later Utopia versions. Those are heavy, powerful, nearly overwhelming toward the end, and Todd's guitar is loaded with effects. This arrangement is much more austere and each instrument stands nicely on its own. All the sonic space allows Todd to convey the feeling in the lyrics, rather than having to shout them over the band's roar. Beautiful version.
