    This one video convinced me to keep my new fishing boat. I have been confounded on how to use and understand these fish finders and the imaging they provide. So much so that I am taking a class tomorrow morning where the instructor will go thru all my electronics, set everything up properly and then teach me how to use everything! I was a hair away from deciding that this boat wasn’t for me and going back to a pontoon. I’ve been so frustrated!

    Greg first of all the info you provide for crappie fishing is outstanding. I’m setting up my my Bass Tracker Bass Buggy pontoon and will be adding a front trolling minn Kota motor and a front fish finder is a side view or a down view best for crappie fishing thanks Bruce

    • @CamoRiver
      @CamoRiver  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both can be of value, however the down scan feature in absolutely invaluable. You'll find that when it shows fish, there really are fish. In contrast, sonar shows too much of everything, sometimes even causing schools of shad appear to be fish. The side imaging is helpful if you're trying to find a brush pile and you're not exactly sure where it is. You can view 20 or 30 feet on both sides of the boat while you're idling by. But once you find the brush pile however, you can actually study it by proper use of down imaging. Thanks for watching!

      Right now I'm using the 7' BnM Super Sensitive Rod. I use 20lb test braid/6lb dia.; however I can get by with it here. Some lakes that are extremely clear you might have to use a mono leader if you use braid. Thanks for watching!

    Very clearly explained detail about the fish cover. Tkx Greg! Do you drop down or suspend any type feed into the hotels to help attract more bait fish? What lb.test line you prefer?

    • @CamoRiver
      @CamoRiver  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't bait my brush piles. Crappie seem to go to them naturally, I use 20 braid/8lb dia. But you can also use 6 pound mono

    • @CamoRiver
      @CamoRiver  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't use any feed to attract them. I use willow trees and they naturally attract Crappie in about a week. As a guide, I use 20 lb. braid/8 lb dia. However, if you have real clear water you might use 6 lb mono.

    I know they're brush piles, but what do YOU like to call 'em?

  • @barnett37
    @barnett37 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello sir love your videos if you build a brush pile and wait 3 weeks or so then fish it and I caught 2 Carr and 1 Catfish and 1 Crappie and that was all ... P S ( full moon ) night before... minnows and jigs was used .. crappie was caught on jig... Do you think Carr feeding in brush pile would run crappie off . ? 9 -14 -2019

    • @CamoRiver
      @CamoRiver  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Several things. Gar won't usually run them off. But they do make them suck tighter to the brush. That on top of a full moon, the crappie probably 1. didn't need to eat and 2. didn't want to expose themselves. Some catfish will always hang around brushpiles, but if you caught one it's usually because you fished too deep. Identify the depth of the crappie using a good graph, and fish just above them.
      Thanks for watching!

    I would have thought you would have put them in deeper water. What depths do you place them for what times of the year ?

    • @CamoRiver
      @CamoRiver  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have brush piles in a variety of depths. From 7' to 20'. Right now the surface temp is 88 degrees, so I'm in 25 feet of water, crappie are about 16 feet down. Thanks for watching!

    Excellent video, if you turn the boat around with the wind you don't have to listen to the waves striking the boat.

    So it's easier to make your own brush piles rather than finding them?

      No, for sure not easier. I just don't prefer to fish other people brush piles. Especially when I see someone fishing them with their family on the weekend. I you never see someone on an existing brushpile, it might be alright. Thanks for watching!
