I love the low-block heeled ballerines like Repetto makes. Jane Birkin loved them, too. The added 1.5-2 inches of height makes petite me feel more confident!

I adore good leather footwear, it’s always on my shopping list, but now, of course, spring/summer styles are up! (I just got a few pairs of beautiful boots I needed on sale, I always check this time of year). I buy mostly medium heels, 2-2.5 inches, and not that many really flat ones, except some slide sandals. I think a 1-inch heel is more comfy for me than flats, and I never could wear heels 3 inches or more. Finally, shoe manufacturers are catching on, shoes must be comfortable for walking, not just stylish. I love block heels, but to keep up to date, will look at more slender-heeled styles this season, too. A generous-size toe box is critical for comfort, but usually found in more expensive brands, no pointed toes for my wide-toed feet!
Note: “Kitten Heels” are not defined by their height alone, they have a distinct, curved shape, like a more delicate “Louis Heel”. Not all low-to-medium height heels are Kitten Heels, a darn cute name. Most I’ve seen this season are not Kittens at all, but straighter-shaped medium heels. I like the ones that have a rectangular wider base, side-to-side, they look more stable than Kitten Heels, which are centered at one point under the middle of the heel.
The gold-hardware black sling-backs you show are true Kitten Heels, I didn’t mean to imply that yours aren’t. I’ve just noticed a lot of general confusion about this heel shape and tried to clarify it. After all, I do have five decades of fashion styling experience🙂
Even here in San Francisco, which doesn’t get very cold, it’s still way too early for open-toed shoes. We can wear closed-toes year round, and in my conservative corporate office, were required to. Even in May, I’ll still be wearing closed toes, sandals would require socks. This is more acceptable than it used to be, but my Mom’s generation hated it (I’m 63, and it’s still not a look I like). Sling-backs are fine for later in the spring, my heels don’t get cold like my toesies do. I am starting to shop for spring and summer styles, there are now many great mid-heel options available, for the first time in my life. I didn’t think designers would ever get the message, and it took decades, but I hope they never try to force high stiletto heels on us again. I haven’t seen a woman actually wear high heels here since the late 80s and even then, it was quite rare. They’ve just never been a thing here and now are a quarter-century or more out-of-style.
I agree, there was a big difference between the heels that designers brought out and what wonen actually wore day to day. So happy that we don’t have to sacrifice comfort to look stylish anymore!

Loving the kitten heels…so comfy and a touch of height as well….I’m so over high heels these days❤
I never could wear them, they kill my arches, age 63. No loss to me, now that chic, comfortable mid-heels are finally available🙂
Yep…68 here…Tried a beautiful high heel over Christmas and ended up going barefoot for most of the party…haha…I’m done with that!!
