Giles' accent during Band Candy is closer to how Anthony Head actually sounds in real life, he puts on the "well spoken posh" accent when normally playing Giles. (he also taught James Marsters/Spike how to say certain things in an English accent)
@Bri Nope, if you listen to interviews the Giles voice definitely isn't his normal accent. He doesn't use his everyday accent for Ripper Giles, he lays it on thicker than usual, but his normal accent is closer to Ripper Giles than Posh Giles.
@@Talisguy he's talked in an interview about how he adopted the London accent at school to fit in with the working class kids. He does talk that way a lot in interviews but he has acknowledged publicly that it's an affectation not his natural accent (which is more like Giles' received pronunciation). I guess it's a code switching thing.
But not to say 'arse' instead of 'ass'. I love James/Spike but that is one thing that always bugged me seeing as he got so many other things absolutely spot on.
Bit of movie trivia- Kulak, the spiky headed demon in Homecoming, is played by Chad Stahelski. Band Candy is definitely one of my top 5 favorite Buffy episodes. Armin Shimerman as Snyder was excellent, and we get to meet the Mayor, one of my favorite villains. 🙂
Band Candy is one of my all time favorite episodes. It doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, it never fails to make me laugh. It's definitely one of my go-to's if I'm feeling down and need a pick me up. Snyder absolutely kills it, he's so funny!
If you look closely at Buffy's left arm during the library/database scene, you'll notice she's got one sleeve over the entire hand, Sarah had sprained a wrist during filming and was wearing/hiding a cast.
Always a good time when Rupert 'Ripper' Giles comes out to play 😉 Giles being a hooligan in his youth is very funny to me, especially as he's all stuffy and proper now.
I performed in two orchestras professionally for over 25 years, most guys (99%) had the black ties for our tails set that were all tied and on the black strap that goes around your neck and fixed at the front w a little hook. Only a couple had ties that were totally “from scratch.” Believe me, our time was so limited between a tails set, a pops uniform plain tux, a business suit for kids’ concerts, a summer uniform with both short and long sleeved white shirts and black slacks, various other stuff , we sometimes had two concerts in a day with two different uniforms and whatever you wore in between. Plus all the rehearsals, driving back and forth to all the venues, getting all that stuff cleaned..I had a huge stack of white undershirts clean and ready to go, take a shower twice a day before rehearsals and concerts to prevent stage lights from making everyone sweat and stink and keep your stuff cleaner longer..no one wanted to take the extra time to stand in front of a mirror to tie a “fancy” tie. We had strict rules about scented deodorants and perfumes/hair/skin products, cause when 80-100 (180 with chorus and kids’ chorus) ppl get under those hot lights if someone had a stinky perfume it was noxious..much less if everyone had that stuff on..all the wind and brass have to take deep breaths and all…wow..realizing just how much I really don’t miss all that! Yeah, occasionally you’d play a favorite piece (if the conductor didn’t ruin it) but now I’m retired I just don’t miss the stress and running around…more fun to just watch Buffy..and reactors, lol..that was an awfully long explanation about fixed ties vs tying ties, lol…
You guys stated that this episode was chaotic and then said that the Halloween episode with Ethan was fun. If you think back to the Halloween episode Ethan used the statue of the Roman God of Chaos to cast that spell so that tells me that chaos is how he operates.
I'm pretty sure that Giles's 'Ripper' accent is the actor's normal accent (and also the accent that James Marsters uses for Spike). Also casually dropping a recommendation for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine for if you want more Armin Shimerman.
Oh yes, here we go again! I love Homecoming. Buffy and Cordy's rivalry is hilarious! Welcome to the SLAYER FEST '98! And Buffy kicks ass as usual! 😍 "Cordelia, the spatula!" 😂 Band Candy is a very fun episode! Principal Snyder following along with Buffy in the car is funny as hell. "Whoa, Summers! You drive like a spaz!" 🤣 Giles aka Ripper and Joyce being naughty in town is great! Bad chocolate! 😂
Comedy Overload in Band Candy with Snyder stealing the show! Band Candy always a fan favourite. Great to see all the adults acting like brat horny teenagers. Funniest part was when Joyce says to Giles 'your like Burt Reynolds' He was about the most famous Hollywood Film Star of the 1970s! That's what makes younger people reacting to this show so entertaining. The part at the end too was also very funny when Joyce and Giles see each other again and turn away embarrassed. Many have said the serious message in this episode was about the dangers of 'spiking' of drinks, drugs etc losing inhibitions, with the juxtaposition of the adults as teenagers.
To be fair to Scott, it didn't really seem like Buffy was into the relationship, especially with the way Buffy seemed pretty hot and cold last episode. They'd only been dating for about 2-3 weeks at this point...
Not to mention, seeing her ex on the side, even though it was just as friends to be fair to Buffy. Nobody owed anyone anything I don’t think? And Scott at least broke up w her to her face like a man, lol
Happy "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" Friday night with Cody and Sergio! 😊 Two really good episodes for tonight's video. The "Homecoming" episode is a good one. Love the Buffy and Cordy team up against the Cowboy Vamp. The "Band Candy" episode is one of my all-time faves. Teenage Giles and Joyce, and even teenage Principle Snyder is entertaining. Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊

They didn’t catch the Vinnie Barbarino reference…awww..John Travolta played the character on Welcome Back, Kotter. He became extremely popular and ended up becoming a recurring layer in the series due to his film career. Highly recommend that tv show. It was so good in its era.
Passion of the Nerd does knockouts counts for Giles. Check out his channel. Great analysis of Buffy themes and silly things like Giles’ knockouts. Great reaction guys! Always enjoy them. ❤
I love it when a non-supernatural character takes on a supernatural threat and wins through, essentially, force of character. Xander is very good at it, but Cordy shows here she is no slouch either.
In D&D 5e terms, Cordy is definitely high "Charisma" 😉 and proficient in Persuasion; in D&D 3.5 terms she has maximum ranks in Bluff and Intimidate, and may well have Persuasive feat. Her facing down the remaining Gorch brother was epic! Of course he was under the impression that she was Faith, the other Slayer, for whom Mr. Trick didn't have a pic.
These episodes make me rethink Willow and Xander's characters. As well as their friendship to Buffy. Xander is no surprise, he would replace Buffy with any skirt. Willow on the other hand...
We did a lot of fundraising in my schools, but once in seventh grade, a presenter kept saying 'Uh' with every break in his sentence, so the crowd of middle schoolers kept repeating 'uh' with him every time. God it was so rude but funny as a 12 year old. I also sold Girl Scout cookies and only the parents that worked at big places like auto makers did really well.
If you ignore the Willow willing to cheat on Oz BS subplot, Band Candy is one of my fav episodes.😅 Ps. Did you know, the actor who played Principal Schnider (Armin Shimerman)wrote some fantasy books (also he's the Ferangi on Deepspace 9)
Homecoming I thought this was a good, but not one of the best episodes of S3. We have two competitions running side by side Slayerfest 98 and The Homecoming Queen as well with Buffy and Cordelia becoming obsessed by it. We see some interesting reveals with Willow and Xander begin to have actual real feelings for each other now, when he sees Willow in her dress and dance slowly, and kiss. Cordelia facing down the Cowboy Vampire is a great scene, and the Mayor ( one the the most entertaining characters in the show ) and Trick now working together as well, we just know there is gonna be trouble with these two.
Fab Filipino played Scott Hope, and he also played Ethan Gold in Queer as Folk. That might be where you’ve seen him. If you haven’t seen that show, you should react to it!
If you would like to hear Kristine Sutherland's thoughts on playing Joyce in Band Candy, there's a podcast called The Rewatcher that had her on for their breakdown of the episode. It's so good! And they're spoiler free, so you can listen without worry.
It's like, when you finally start warming up to Scott, he does *that* to Buffy! But Faith was amazing, I love the look on Scott's date's face during that. You gotta love Snyder in Band Candy. "Summers, you drive like a spaz!" I am a big fan of Ethan Rayne, he makes things more fun and chaotic (which makes sense since he worships Chaos). Are you planning to watch Supernatural together? Cody has seen it, I know, but it would be fun to watch Sergio's reaction to everything on there. Also know, I thirst along with you whether it's Angel or Giles and nod along vigorously at your comments! 🤣
This might have been said but on the line of podcasts the girls from Morbid do one called The Rewatcher …. They watch an episode and then recap and talk about it every week …. When they got to Band Candy they had Kristine Sutherland on as a guest for that episode and the next one …. And let me tell you it was one of the best interviews I have ever heard imo anyway!!!
Slayerfest ‘98? Sign me up! Homecoming queen race was fierce. No Xander/Willow! Why? 🤦🏽♀️ Cordelia & the spatula 😂 Loved Buffy/Cordy team up! 💚 Buffy can’t catch a break. The mayor finally arrives. @@hannahawesome85It totally gives me the ick! I mean I kinda expect this from Xander at this point, but Willow? I’m so disappointed. Oz & Cordelia deserve better than that 😢 I’m hoping it doesn’t go on for much longer. I’ve never seen the show before so I guess I’ll find out soon enough.
I love the adults in this. Snyder the wannabe, Giles the street touch, and Joyce, who would unquestionable have been the Cordelia of her school. Except that Cordelia would have been her acolyte.
Hey, the mayor is like Monk. "Wipe! Wipe!" "Moist towelette?" I thought it was "Leave room for the Holy Spirit" That's probably the Catholic version. Boreanaz as Booth said that on Bones once. "I need *diet* blood." LOL You know that pig's blood will go straight to your hips. I really feel like I need chocolate every time I watch Band Candy. Like real bad.
You might enjoy going down the Star Trek rabbit hole, specifically Deep Space 9 (DS9) as you see Principal Snyder play another role. It's a bit of a slow role as they flush out the character, but in that show the side characters are kings and might possibly be not only the best part of the show, but the best characters written for TV
I agree Sergio, I bet it was so much fun for the actors. It's probably really good for actors to play different versions of the characters they’re used to. Young annoying Snyder was hilarious. Joyce and Giles were perfect. I'm glad they didn’t make the characters physically younger, so they can keep with the original cast and that’s funnier... Band Candy is one of the funniest episodes for sure.
Loved this reaction, especially the band candy part. Question have you guys ever watched Supernatural cause if not you have to and if so maybe do a rewatch review??
Band Candy! Giles using more or less Tony's actual accent. Kristine Sutherland said it one of if not her favorite episode to film Ethan is always fun. Good gag reel stuff from this episode. They didn’t catch the Vinnie Barbarino reference…awww..John Travolta played the character on Welcome Back, Kotter. He became extremely popular and ended up becoming a recurring layer in the series due to his film career. Highly recommend that tv show. It was so good in its era.
One Of My Fave Episodes!😱🫣🧛♀️🧜♀️🎛🖥💞
band candy is one of my all time favorite episodes. its so fun. the adults are so interesting as young people. its so good.
“There’s still Prom.” 😭 ❤
I forgot how unbelievably cute Scott Hope was.
Passion of the Nerd does knockouts counts for Giles. Check out his channel. Great analysis of Buffy themes and silly things like Giles’ knockouts. Great reaction guys! Always enjoy them. ❤
Ethan Rayne eps are always so chaotic. Love ‘em!
Did you notice that Giles put that coat on Joyce without removing the hanger first?
Giles and Spike are the reasons why I say "Bloody Hell."
We sold 5lb blocks of cheese in band.
"... besides, I look cute in a tiara"
she always looks cute imo lol
Homecoming and Band Candy are amazing eps!! Gotta love Slayerfest ‘98 and sexy Giles!!!
I'm pretty sure that is Anthony Stuart Head's real accent
No. It’s a put-on affectation. His real accent isn’t that strong.
Snyder in Band Candy gives me a total Randall Boggs in Monsters University
The candy episode is my absolute FAVORITE episode ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You guys are pretty great, love the enthusiasm.
I’ve been waiting for you guys to get to this episode 😂 It’s one of my favorites. ❤
These episodes make me rethink Willow and Xander's characters. As well as their friendship to Buffy. Xander is no surprise, he would replace Buffy with any skirt. Willow on the other hand...
I adore you guys ❤ I look forward to these so thank you 🙏
💜💜💜
We did a lot of fundraising in my schools, but once in seventh grade, a presenter kept saying 'Uh' with every break in his sentence, so the crowd of middle schoolers kept repeating 'uh' with him every time. God it was so rude but funny as a 12 year old. I also sold Girl Scout cookies and only the parents that worked at big places like auto makers did really well.
30:50 You should see him in DS9 XD
Band Candy is always a fan favourite. Teen Giles is so great!
If you ignore the Willow willing to cheat on Oz BS subplot, Band Candy is one of my fav episodes.😅
Ps. Did you know, the actor who played Principal Schnider (Armin Shimerman)wrote some fantasy books (also he's the Ferangi on Deepspace 9)
Great video as always guys!! 😊
I’m not liking how they’re writing Willow this season which sucks cuz she’s been my favorite. Aww Giles/Buffy SAT study sesh in the graveyard. Those chocolate bars would’ve got me. Love me some chocolate 😂 Okay rebellious teenage Giles! 🔥 Snyder had me 💀 That second episode got dark. Intrigued by Mr. Trick. Great reactions as always 🖤
Oh yeah... Forgot about this with Willow and Xander... 😱 It's so bad and I hate it! 😭
Except that Cordelia would have been her acolyte.
we all love green
Yes ive been waiting for these episodes
Hey, the mayor is like Monk. "Wipe! Wipe!" "Moist towelette?" I thought it was "Leave room for the Holy Spirit" That's probably the Catholic version. Boreanaz as Booth said that on Bones once.
"I need *diet* blood." LOL You know that pig's blood will go straight to your hips. I really feel like I need chocolate every time I watch Band Candy. Like real bad.
I love Monk! 😄
We all love Trick!
They made you sell fruits door to door? You were doomed to fail lmao
Band Candy!
Giles using more or less Tony's actual accent.
Kristine Sutherland said it one of if not her favorite episode to film
Ethan is always fun.
Good gag reel stuff from this episode.
Snyder was great. This is why people love Snyder despite him being a thorn in Buffy's side.
Did I mention I hate Willow/Xander at this point? The ship date expired when Oz arrived.
Giles and Ethan were romantically and/or sexually involved when they were younger. And no one can convince me otherwise.
God I wish you two wouldn’t slack on making more Buffy reaction video 😂
On that Cordy episode...you just wait.
Can't wait for Earshot... twice?
