I didn't know about the upcoming Corrie Ten Boom movie. We are reading The Hiding Place this year, so that is perfect to wrap it up.😊 Thank you for the info.
Absolutely combine your boys for reading. Great way for family bonding with quality books! I’m deep in prep myself. I make procedure lists (Pam Barnhill) for each subject/resource and then use the crate system for science and history. So at the beginning of the week I just pull out the next folder and go. That way I’m never behind, can be on different weeks for different subjects, and can take breaks whenever we want
I feel that 😂…”there is so much prepping going on.” Setting up grab-and-go is totally worth it-my kids also have completely different work (despite being 11 and 10). Best of luck !!
I am in the midst of prepping for next year and feeling a little overwhelmed, we went to a homeschool book sale and hubby bought lots of Abeka material and now I have so many different curriculums to go through lol. But I am excited it will be our fist time using abeka so hoping for a great year ahead.
I've gone through all his curriculum, made a list of the library books needed each week in an Excel sheet and linked to the library catalog page for that book so all I have to do when I want to reserve books is scroll to whatever week, click on the link for each book and put a hold on it. I've also gone through the science book and written down all the materials needed for experiments and put all the non-perishable stuff into a tub so I don't have to worry about finding it when it comes to that week.
That sounds like my prep too!! Library list prep, science experiment material prep, and ancient history activity material prep 😊 it's worth doing the prep! Especially when a tea or coffee is involved 😅
In my opinion, I would definitely combine your kids! I also feel very inadequate with planning (and homeschooling). But I feel like I need to do more with that because we have a surprise baby on the way. However I am so overwhelmed I just don't know where to start with planning and organizing. And I've homeschooled for a long time like you, and it's not my "norm" to plan a whole lot. I normally check out in the summer, but now I've swung the other way to feeling ALL the things need to be done.
I would put them together! I wish I could do that. My 7th grader is advanced and my 2nd grader is just at grade level on all but Math. So I understand the struggle!
The prep work is the fun part right?! lol I've been prepping since April, maybe longer, and we started school back July 17th - I mean since is like 100 degrees here, we decided to get going.
So I do love planning, but sometimes I do feel Ill-equipped since I don’t have a teacher background. Do you have a video or advice where you breakdown (even more) the planning, reading, and note taking? This will be my upcoming 4th year of HS, and I’ve just learned that most moms pre-read their kiddos books 😮 😂 Keep your kiddos together, won’t be too long before your oldest will graduate.
Does Generations have Audio versions available for their books? I have The Holy War and I'd love to listen while doing housework. And yes, I'd put both boys in the same literature class like you're asking advice for...seems like it would be a good fit for you all.
Not that I’m aware of. I just look up the books on TH-cam to see if someone recorded it, and many times it’s there. I just finished The Holy War on TH-cam :) I don’t have audible, so I have to find free versions for now.
Hey, do you recommend Teaching Textbooks all the way through high school as well? We plan to try it for my son who will be in 7th grade and I’m hoping we will like it enough to stick with until grade 12. I don’t like switching curriculum unless I have to 😊
The subjects that you teach (specifically referring to older kids), do you read the textbooks to them? Do you "teach" them before or after they have read the assigned text reading?
I don’t read the textbook to them. Sometimes they read before I teach, sometimes not. It just depends on the day. Usually I teach before they read the assignment.
I've been prepping like CRAZY, but I'm almost done. One more subject to go (and I start that today!).
I would love to see a video on your anchor charts!
I have a video where I talk about them here: th-cam.com/video/pphQ8BY5-x8/w-d-xo.html
Me too!

Get the Michael’s longer cart & use the other one for your painting/art stuff! Yes combine the boys for reading!
Great video! So many good tips! And yes, I would put both boys into the same curriculum. So much easier for you and the boys will enjoy it.
Thank you, Ranita!

Yes lol!
I would a video of you teaching science, and how you implement anchor charta with one kiddo.
Here’s a big part of how I do that: th-cam.com/video/pphQ8BY5-x8/w-d-xo.html

I do! My high schooler is doing it and he’s just fine :)
I say do what your heart is telling you. Years with our children as children are finite.
I love your t-shirt! Where did you get it?
Thanks! It’s one of my favorite tshirts! Here’s my Amazon aff link for it: amzn.to/3YkK8Lv
I love your watch! Link? Different band color?
Here you go! Here’s my Amazon affiliate link: amzn.to/44AWBNp

I don’t read the textbook to them. Sometimes they read before I teach, sometimes not. It just depends on the day. Usually I teach before they read the assignment.
Do you try to bring extra information to the table that isn’t in the book or just hit the high points in the assignment to reinforce?
Thanks for responding!
What is an anchor chart?
It's like a giant poster. You can see them in this video: th-cam.com/video/pphQ8BY5-x8/w-d-xo.html
