It's interesting, but younger reviewers tend to talk up "more road feel happening" as better and more fun than a softer more comfortable ride. Older buyers, however, are looking for the softer more comfortable ride of a Buick, but with great gas mileage. I want less vibrations and road feel. I've always had Toyotas, but if you are telling me the Sonata has a more refined and comfortable ride, then I will be definitely looking at that car for my next purchase. I don't care about 0-60 stuff!
The Camry is on the optional larger wheels and on a sports trim. There’s other trims are more comfortable especially that LE base trim. So don’t write off the Camry! But that Sonata is pretty comfy and quiet so do check them out when cross shopping.
Toyota’s eCVT is so smooth and actually feels decent to drive compared to a regular CVT. It’s also extremely reliable. I’d take it over what’s in the Sonata any day
I used traffic jam assist for the first time in Boston a couple days ago and it was amazing! No matter how good a driver I believe I am, I can’t detect the smallest of adjustments that the radar sensors can to make driving a smoother experience in heavy traffic.
The '25 Camry is not an all-new design, it is an extensive mid-cycle refresh, as is the Sonata. The front and rear doors are the same as the '24. So many people think it's new....
This is truly a great review! Thank you! You began with the important elements....how the cars drive. As a senior citizen, not terribly interested in speed, but rather comfort and quietness, I think I'll opt for the Sonata. I also think the turn signal cameras are an incredible safety feature, which you perhaps could have mentioned. For the past 12 years, I've been driving an Accord six cylinder with the side mirror mounted camera which I just love. I have 245,000 and still drives like new. I am seriously considering a Hyundai, however. Thank you!
I would take the Camry over the Sonata for the simple fact that it has a mini spare over a tire inflation kit that is in the Sonata. Also the fact that you can option in AWD in every version in the Camry is a plus!
You can buy a spare and put it in the trunk of the Sonata. The foam tray that holds the tire inflation kit is covering the spot where a spare tire would normally go.
That's a great point especially because I haven't gotten a flat tire in the last 30 years please tell me how many flat tires you have gotten in the last 2 years
Sonata for the win. The amount of time you'll spend "in the turns" having fun with the handling in minuscule compared to the time time you will be chugging down a highway or in traffic. I rented a Camry and was expecting a butter smooth ride. Those stupid low profile tires and a rhythmic "thunk" coming from the rear made me regret the weekly rental. I actually returned it to Hertz early. Yes, i returned a paid for rental early.
Thanks for this comparison. I love to drive, and the Sonata just doesn’t excite me (though it’s very nice for passengers). Your comments are helpful as I look for a sporty sedan or small SUV. I now need to go see what you thought of the accord hybrid.
Real world transaction prices suggest the Sonata is many many thousands less than the Camry. For example, not only is the Sonata MSRP lower, you can find new Sonatas for as much as $5000 under MSRP.
They both get great gas mileage, you can't beat Toyotas reliability. After having test driven both twice, I decided that the Sonata is the better buy. The camry is more on the sportier side with it's looks. The Sonata has better audio, more free tech, memory seats, longer warranty to include 3 years of all their services and it costs 2 k less in my area oh and the Sonata has a smaller gas tank and gets the same if not better gas mileage.
Camry every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. Recently rented a 2025 Camry SE and drove it 500 plus miles. Averaged 50.3 MPG. Loved the car. Smooth and refined. My daughter still drives a 98 Corolla and it runs great! I'm still rocking my old 86 4Runner SR5 with the reliable 22RE.
Normally I would say Camry all day but the Sonata is just so damn attractive and it does come with a 10 year warranty. I don't know if I'd pay more though.
Toyota is always miles ahead. But the harsh reality is six-month to year-long waits for Camry, higher interest rates, and high showroom markup prices. This makes the whole experience very annoying.
At 13:50 you mention when you get on the gas to pass someone, it takes more time, not much, just a few milliseconds. Would down shifting using the down paddle shifter help when passing or anytime you want to accelerate quick, or should I say quicker.
A company that's been making hybrids since 1997 vs a company newer to the technology that's still improving. Toyota has taken the hybrid system that was exclusive to the Prius for 20 years and gradually put it in almost every model of car and truck!
Just for everyone's knowledge Toyota stole the Hybrid tech and lost the patent case to the guy who came up with the original design 😊.. look up Paice LLC vs Toyota
Would have been nice to use 18" wheels on the camry to compare. 19" wheels can right firmer and let more feeling into the chassis. Maybe compared the xe to the sonata would have been closer.
The uni-brow look of the Sonata isn't appealing to me. The more aggressive styling of the Toyota looks good, especially in the ocean gem color. Hyundai doesn't have anywhere near the resale value or long-term reliability of the Camry, so I'm going Toyota.
I especially hate the trend of having a skit where the headlights used to be for fancy accent lights and having the actual headlights down in the bumper. Hyundai and Kia are the worst with this.
Bought hyundai sonata hybrid last year, this year have to replace whole battery system due to 12v battery failure, now waiting for the part to be back ordered almost 2 months, never ever hyundai again.
You are comparing a sporty version of Camry that costs 6K more than a non-sporty version of Sonata. Should have compared the Camry with Sonata N Line, which is the sporty version of Sonata.
I can’t stand people who waste time spewing information they literally have no knowledge about. Let me help the uninformed individual here. This vehicle comparison is between HYBRID midsize sedans. Notice how I highlighted, “HYBRID” in all caps? The Hyundai Sonata N Line is NOT a hybrid. The 2025 Camry does NOT have a trim that competes with the Sonata N Line. 🤦🏻♂️
XSE is missing rain sensing wipers and memory seats. XLE has them but with the ugly microfiber on the dashboard and doors that will build up dirt over time. Going with the Sonata for this one.
So better MPG Camry, better acceleration Camry, better handling Camry, cool headlight Sonata. You say the Sonata is quieter but your video says otherwise.
The XSE is overpriced and suffers from oversized wheels and extra weight than the Camry LE and to a lesser extent the SE. The Camry XSE and XLE are significantly slower than the Camry LE and get worse MPGs. The LE with options you want makes much more sense than the XSE and XLE.
Agreed. The apples to apples comparison here is the Sonata Limited vs the XLE Camry with the Premium Plus Package (360 camera, HUD, etc ). In real world pricing we are looking at a $5K to $7K cost upgrade for the Camry. I think this configuration is overpriced and really does bring Sonata into play. I agree that the LE is a great car and a great value if you can be happy without the upgrades
I dont know why just because of the rims in sonata it looks so strange it kills the beauty of that car i think here the camry looks great it looks complete unlike sonata i think the sonata n line looks alot better
Camry for the win. It definitely looks better and years from now it will hold its resale value better. Also Toyota has been making hybrids for 25+ years, they are the best in the industry. And the Camry AWD you tested has 3 electric motors, two in the front and one in the rear.
But how do they look? Wheel sizes? Who has measured the height of these cars? Define a hair quicker. This review makes me sad. All very disquieting for the target audience. So sad.
Then, he shouldn't say that the Camry is sportier, has better interior quality (it costs 6K more than the Sonata Hybrid), and overall a better choice. He should have just reviewed the hybrid systems. The Sonata N Line kicks the Camry's ass when it comes to sportiness.
@@paulk6720 agreed. He shudda just compared the hybrid to hybrid. The xse is decently sport tuned tho but the drivetrain is the same on all trims which is to say tuned for efficiency not engagement or speed

The Camry actually has a very good camera system. You have to press the camera button (on the center console) while in reverse or drive.
You can do the same thing on the sonata

camry is outdated and boring car
Sonata for me here
The Sonata has a HUD which I think the Camry is missing plus the cameras are better. Those two items push me toward the Sonata.
