This video was so helpful!!! I’m a transfer student starting this fall and I was aware of the schedule planner but wasn’t actually sure what it did and I’m so glad I saw this video!
I can try! I would definitely say find classes and check whether you should phase 1 or phase 2 them based on my advice in this video (th-cam.com/video/FhyBgDWIaEg/w-d-xo.html). You should have a general idea whether you would be able to get your desired classes by looking at Berkeley Time and their Phase 1/2 registration trends. For example, if you are looking at a R1A and it is almost full, you could still try registering for it during phase 1 with the hopes of getting the class or getting in off of the waitlist. But then, you should find maybe 1-2 other R1As that you may be interested in that are not full yet. Then during phase 2 or the adjustment period, you could add that extra class just in case you didn't get into your top choice class, so at least you were registered for some kind of R1A and you wouldn't fall behind by missing the lecture if you signed up for the class once school already started. During the first few weeks of school are called the add/drop period, so usually the waitlists will close after the first 2 weeks of school and if you didn't get off the waitlist, you would have to sign up for another class. But that can be difficult because a lot of classes would be nearly full and you have already missed the first two weeks of instruction. Hope this helps, let me know if you had other questions, good luck!
Hi Rachel! I appreciate this post! I transferred to cal in fall 2020 and am still struggling with stuff like this!!! I've been watching your posts and its helped so so so much
Hi Pau, thank you so much that means a lot! I’m glad the videos are useful! Congrats on transferring to Berkeley, finally an in-person semester coming up! 🐻🎉
So, there is no passing period. Class A ends at 10:59, Class B starts at 11:00, unless you are in the same or a very close classroom, you have to build in those breaks? That is a killer.
For Berkeley (and other colleges) you don't have to build in the breaks! Online, the class might say it starts at 11 AM, but for Berkeley, it actually does not start until 11:10 AM. There is Berkeley Time, where professors will not start the lecture until 10 after, so it allows for students to stack their classes and walk from one to the other!

What does the actual shopping cart look like when phase 1 opens up? I really wanna see what it looks like before my enrollment time so I know for sure where and what to click to enroll in my courses asap. Could you make a video on this? It would be extremely helpful!
Hi Daniel! When it is your enrollment time, you will click to enroll button which will bring you to a new page. The new page will have the classes you included in your shopping cart, so you would select the 3-4 classes you have and press the button to enroll. If you didn't send your desired classes to the shopping cart, on this page you would have to search and find all of your desired classes again. Sending them to the shopping cart basically skips the step of having to waste time finding the classes. A caveat would be, if the class or discussion you want fills up, you'd have to search for another class or discussion section here. This process would be difficult to show in a video now because the current student's pages are locked for enrollment and the next students to enroll and get the enrollment page would be the incoming students - so you'd be the next ones to have access! Let me know if you have any other questions!
