You should check out their performance in 2004, they were the last group that year also. Search in TH-cam for 2007, 2010, as well. They have been one of the most consistant halau in the past 40 years. Just search for Halau O Kamuela to see more of their performances, and you should also check out their keiki (children) competition. They are so good because they started young like many hula students in other halau, a lot of these dancers have been dancing for 20+ years.
The moment I saw this video, I had a feeling they took first place in the wahine 'auana and they did. Not easy to coordinate that many girls and ALL of them perfectly graceful. Two thumbs up to your kumu hula instructor. Absolutely beautiful!
Like everyone else says, this has to be the best. I never get tired of watching this. I am learning this entire routine one myself. I would like to see a video collection made of others that they do. No matter what, this is certainly the big winner.

They are so lucky to have Keiali'i Reichel sing for them .This is one of my all-time favorite songs that he sings and to watch such an amazing group dance to it is a real privelage.

I remember watching the merrie monarch about 5 or 6 years ago, and just watching how all the dancers moved as one... I wanted to dance hula again just by watching the unity happen right before me eyes :')
I'm not ashamed to admit that this made me cry. It was so beautiful, it brought back memories of living in Hawaii. I need to move back there. I miss it so much.
I taught myself how to do this routine. Boy, what concentration it takes. Try it yourself. It will put you in a beautiful place that you can't even imagine. I just can't explain the feelings that you get. Of course, I do have to have the video going at this point. I want to perfect it that I can do it with just the music and not the video. It will come.

How can anyone not be mesmerized by this? I have developed quite some playlists here, but I have to say, this has to be without question, the best video on all of TH-cam. The music and vocal by KR, the dance, the group, and yes the dress as one had mentioned. So magical.. dancing to me isnt much, but this hula dancing... its like the old magiks to ward away evil and becon the seasons growth... beautiful and the perfect way to express the pureness of the music.
