I wish you’d do not only more QPR videos, but more Championship videos! You’re clearly knowledgeable of the league as a Rangers fan and it’d do no harm to your channel to do them slightly more regularly :) love all your content though, btw :)
Commenting to support this idea. Maybe do one champ team a month or something, we'd appreciate it and so would they
@@tokilladaemonvery on board with this idea
Yeh but he’ll be stuck doing league 1 videos next year
@@jamesgolightly5320bit harsh that 😂
I'm an AaB (Aalborg BK) supporter. He was an excellent coach who later got sold to Hammerby in Sweden. He transformed AaB to a very attractive side. Very fluent and fun to watch. He is very straight forward to players. No nonsens.
Trust me, this man he is good. Had a really good 2022 with him, loved the way Hammarby played. 2023 wasnt that great. Most because of we lost 3 key players, but still manage to make us top 5 team.
Top 5? Ni kom 7:a?
@@johannesdifni stockholmare blir verkligen så skamlösa så fort ni får lite internationell uppmärksamhet. Man märker att ni inte är vana, ni vet inte hur man ska bete sig 😂
All I can say as a Hammarby supporter is that if you give Marti the right enviorment to focus on his playing style you got a great coach on your team. Just look at the diffrence Hammarby played 2022 compared to the second part of Allsvenskan(2023), specially after the Confrence League game, away against Twente FC. the season 2022 and first half of 2023 we played 4-3-3. but the second half of the 2023 season he understood that we couldn't play that system because of the type of players we had in our squad. So we started to play a 3-5-2 system and which meant that our gameplan got much more simple and staright forward for the players. But i still think that the 2022 season of Hammarby is one of the best tactical season we ever had in our club and of course the quality of the players helped alot. So if you want to examine Martis type of football, the year of 2022 in Hammarby is a really good measuerment of what he can do if he have the right quality of players!
Best of luck for QPR
One of the biggest failures of the Ainsworth era is the way that his style of play tanked the value of the best players on this team. Under Beale, Willock was the best player in the Championship and probably would have sold for over £10m. We could have sold Chair to Leicester for £8m too. That's money this club can't turn down.
If we can scrape staying up this season, recover some of that lost value and get the conveyor belt going again, that will be fine by me.
Murphy Mahoney has the best passing stats for a gk in league 2. Not a bad shot stopper. I wouldn’t be opposed to ending his loan
I was at the game against Rotherham yesterday, sat with my Rotherham fan mate right by the QPR dugout and came away feeling confident that we're in good hands, just from watching him go about his business. Early days but he was calm and controlled and when the players gathered by the dug out whenever physios were on the pitch, they looked engaged and obviously liking to what he was saying. Could just be players looking to impress but I liked the look of him.
I'm eternally hopeful with the Rs... but not always as excited as I am with this appointment!
Don't bring in a manager who is the polar opposite, unless his name is Ange
Or Unai
Going from tactical dinosaur to progressive spring chicken is always correct though
I mean? We did that with getting Ainsworth in for Beale…
Or Bulut.
They've only beat Liverpool at home with a two man advantage, they'll finish 5th at best
As a swedish hammarby fan i really like cifuentes and think he is a brilliant manager that could have gotten hammarby to play better then we have been, with the right resources he could be such a good manager
I 100% agree!

Sadly QPR don’t have those resources.
@@SWJ_ I think he meant that our former sporting director, went a bit rogue last year. 7 out of 11 start players were sold and he took chances on signings that didn't land well. So the second half of our season we have played with at least 5 or 6 young upcoming players which forced him to change his way of playing.

I'm never one for go down to come back up, but if this guy gets time no matter what hopefully QPR could be in for an Ipswich type remontada. Hopefully you stay up, but if not remember the sun will shine on QPR again.
This man just did the great escape! Do more videos of Marti!! In Marti, we trust.
As a Spurs fan, it has the feel of Ange-light. Could easily implode, as you hint at, but it could also be epic. Will be looking more for QPR's results than before for sure.
I think it’s a positive move and let’s be honest it literally can’t get any worse. The change was definitely needed 🔵⚪️
Well it could, you could get relegated lmao
I support Hammarby’s rivals AIK but I can tell you this guy is a very good manager, with players he had in Hammarby and what he did was very impressive
Djurgården fan here so very biased, but what has he done that was impressive? He has one of the worst away records in the league this season and he hasn't accomplished or won anything during his tenure at that small club
Yeah he was great for AIK ; ))
@@CRGNSonly one and a bit seasons. Last season 3rd, cup final and Europe. Then they sell 6 players and he still keeps them top six.
@@JohnnyG1809 and Europe? Brother you lost the qualifications against Twente😂 You also lost the cup final and you might not even get top 6 this season
@@CRGNS I don’t support Hammarby, I support his new club. Hammerby have one game left and have every chance of staying in the top six.
I am just happy that we hired a manager that at least will try and get us playing some sort of attractive football, as much as i like Ainsworth i couldnt stand watching QPR under him as we were so horrible on the eye and on top of that results were shocking! Hopefully Marti gets time, if we go down we go down as long as theres some sort of improvement i dont mind!!
That's the point I think: we tried Gareth's way out of FFP restrictions and his style of play did not work sadly. Now we have reverted back to Warburton's 'thinking football'. Exciting times...?
Good luck Marti Cifuentes, you are being thrown in the deep end. Can I politely suggest to my fellow QPR fans that we actually give this guy a chance before we slag him off? This will either be a stroke of genius or an absolute disaster. COYRs
Hammarby fan here, he is a very very talented coach. He knows exactly how he wants to play and has a clear idea. However when he doesnt really have the material he’s not afraid to swallow his pride and chanche up things to make it work
Really miss him.
Can you review this video after 5-10 games and see how he's shaping up against your predictions.
Better 5 months later!
If we go down at least it will be with a bit of style.
Reggie Cannon has done a good bit of possession play in his time with the US national team, could be really good in a back 3 but i think he’ll struggle to show his qualities in a back 4
Likewise Sinclair Armstrong has played possession football at every level for Ireland underage, including Senior. It won't be alien to him either
Very excited about the appointment. Like you said might be ugly to start with but I believe this is a move back to what we were doing right before. I think we have more than enough quality in our squad to retain our championship status. I hope I’m right and that Cifuentes ends up being our saviour. Like you said could be disastrous or unbelievable. Time will tell. COYRs. Looking forward to the trip to Rotherham now 🔵⚪️
Finally, another QPR video 🎉 love seeing you talk about our favorite club James
I’m an Ipswich supporter but I’m sorry to see QPR struggling- Andre Dozzell thoooo 💩

Genius appointment 🎉🎉🎉
As a Hammarby fan it will be intresting to follow QPR this year. Yes i would have him in Hammarby, but now we have to move on. All the best from Stockholm.
He was a youth coach a Millwall so he is familiar with the country and style of play
Hello James, I applaud QPR for getting this coach. I have seen quite a number of shorts since seeing your video and I am confident he is the right man for the club.
I believe he will do better than Warburton as Marti is in to developing players. He comes across as a diligent hard working coach who knows what he wants. COYR'RRRRRS 😀
Worked out pretty well
People keep talking about this guy as if he is a genius. As a Hammarby fan, I was never convinced. I feel like he makes very strange decisions and doesn't utilise the teams qualities to the best ability.
As an example, he recently played formations with a lot of central midfielders. This crowded the midfield and led to that they couldn't find anywhere to play and kept getting caught out and losing possession in dangerous areas or simply passing backwards, not leading to any danger despite having possession. He felt very stubborn with this approach and kept the same idea even though it wasn't working very well.
With the quality of the players that Hammarby has had relative to the league, I feel like there should have been better results.
Would love to see a follow up to this 6 months on after the Leeds game. The R's are staying up! COYRS!
What do you think of him now James? I was at HQ for the Preston game and one of my biggest takeaways was that Fortress Loftus Road is Back. The boys are also playing in a similar vein to our early 90's heroes so there's optimism for next season.
James, ya lil whippersnapper... your production is so good im now watching a QPR video...
He managed my team, Aalborg BK, for a brief period. We were doing quite well then, and we went to shit after he left. So I think you have reason to be optimistic.
Yeah, Cifuentes was the last time Aalborg wasn't shit
As an Ipswich fan I have seen Ainsworth teams at Wycombe and QPR. He had the players for his brand of pinhead football at Wycombe but not at Rangers. Hope it works out for Rangers under Cifuentes
We need more efl content jimbo!
Hello James! Im a massive Hammarby fan and i think the appointment of Marti is a massive gamble but an exciting one. I think that your point is spot on with needing an upgrade on Begovic feet, with Hammarby Marti had easily the best ball playing goalkeeper in Allsvenskan.
At his best moments in Hammarby we created the most chances and had the most possession in Allsvenskan, he is all about total control.
But in his downfall this season he couldn’t adapt to the large turnover of our squad and to the new arguably worse players. At times Martis football looked self destructive. Just passing around the back and conceding easy goals (Mainly while playing with a 343 as to the preferred 433).
I believe you could achieve success with Marti if he gets time and gets support in the market with the technical players that his system needs.
Really enjoyed this video. As a Blackburn Rovers fan I would love to see more EFL content on the channel 😅
What is that tactic board thing called
🐝💤 fans can’t believe you’ve given Ainsworth the boot. Totally madness. He gave us hours and hours of pleasure, listening to his interviews. Does this also mean that Mr Huka will have to clear his desk at the new training centre ?
ps, I’ve never heard anything as ridiculous as your breakdown of the new managers tactical lineups ⬇️.
Few too many Stella's for you Nige
Was very good at Sandefjord. Probably think qpr will be playing the mighty port vale next season anyway
James, great work, always the true love of Rangers comes across... Love it when you can discuss QPR, can you do more, West London sport need your input
As a lifelong Danish Aalborg BK fan, I must be honest and say that I wasn't very impressed by Marti during his time in Aalborg. On the surface, he seemed fine, but the quality of play was never truly impressive. Let me explain a bit why:
2020/2021:
Marti was appointed during the winter break of the 2020/2021 season, following the departure of the previous manager, Friis, due to personal reasons. At that point, AaB was in 7th place in the league with 19 points after 13 games, having a goal difference of -3 (15-18). The midfield was closely packed, with AaB only 5 points behind the team in 3rd place, but also just 4 points ahead of the team in 10th place. Marti had 9 games remaining until the league split into two parts (12 teams divided after 22 games), and he needed to move the team up one position. Unfortunately, AaB only managed to secure 9 points in those 9 games, winning only two of them against teams considered weaker than AaB. After 22 games and the league split, AaB found themselves in 9th place, level on points with the 8th and 7th placed teams. So, it was a challenging start, but to be fair, the squad wasn't built by Marti, and transitions take time, so it was acceptable.
AaB then faced the other 5 teams in the relegation playoff, and their performance improved significantly. Over the course of 10 games, AaB secured 5 wins, accumulated 18 points, and scored 20 goals. This victory in the relegation playoff opened the door to a playoff game for European qualifiers, which they unfortunately lost in a penalty shootout to the team in 4th place in the league. Optimism was high in Aalborg, and the future appeared promising. The team was winning, scoring goals, and seemed poised for a top-half finish with a chance at European qualification.
2021/22:
The 2021/22 season appeared fantastic on the surface. When AaB went on winter break after 17 games, they were in 4th place with 28 points (just 5 points off 2nd place and 7 points clear of the dreaded 7th place) and had scored 27 goals. AaB seemed to be flying high, but was that really the case? The underlying metrics told a different story. Despite AaB's 4th position with 28 points, the expected points suggested that AaB should be in 10th place with 22 points. Additionally, while AaB had scored 27 goals, the expected goals (xG) indicated that AaB should have only scored around 21.5 goals. In reality, AaB's expected goals and points suggested that they were in a battle for survival, meaning that AaB was overperforming. It was at this point that Marti left for Hammarby, AaB brought in a new coach, and their period of overperformance ended. AaB finished the regular season in the top half, qualifying for the championship playoff, but their performance took a nosedive, making them the worst team in the playoff, winning only 2 out of 10 games.
The following season was even worse, and AaB's performance deteriorated further, leading to their relegation to the second division in Denmark.
At first glance, it may seem that AaB's decline began when Marti left the team while they were sitting in 4th place after 17 games. However, the performance under Marti wasn't as impressive as it appeared, as indicated by the expected goals (xG) and expected points (xP). AaB was significantly overperforming during his tenure. It's possible that Marti brought an element of luck or managerial skill that led to this overperformance, but during his time, AaB didn't look like a serious contender; rather, they resembled a pretender. Marti's stint at AaB lasted only a year, and perhaps he departed at just the right time, just before AaB's overperformance came to an end. I don't know how Marti fared at Hammarby because, to be honest, I didn't follow his career closely but that is my two cents on his time in Aalborg.
I wish him all the best at QPR and Loftus Road. Love the content James, keep it up.
I’m excited for the game today, let’s back ange, we have time to turn this around. We’ve gotta keep a manager for more than a year if possible to build, I personally wanted to keep warbs, no idea why we got rid of him
I think we should have gone for Warnock until end os the season and get safety then bring in Marti in the summer to instill his stamp and new players, he needs to play Chair & Willock in there best positions and Dykes needs to play for QPR like he does for Scotland then we will have a better chance in games
Another great video James
Thanks for doing the research, I just could not be arsed, it’s all I can do to get myself to W12 every fortnight. It’s great to have an “expert” with the right bias. keep up the good work 👍
Hi, what is that tactic board u using?
QPR stays up, they’re going to do it! 0:19
me being from sweden, gets me really excirted about this, tbh i dont know enough about swedish football generally so i dont knoww ewnough about Cifuentes, to be clear i still know who he is, but ive talked to people who do know our football better than me and they rate cifuentes
As a blues fan, i'm hoping and glad someone else has took a bigger risk than what we are doing with Rooney.
More championship videos needed 👍
Never any guarantees for how it goes. But he was very impressive while in Norway.
I think it is defo a good philosophical change for us, but He needs to be given time, regardless of results, it is the squad that will not be suited.
Until I cam across your videos I didn't even know QPR existed. Now thanks to you James I find myself waiting for these types of videos. I hope that all goes well for Cifuentes.
Really good, listened to the podcast too! Agree with him about Begovic, he’s done, he relies in passing keepers. Mahoney back from Swindon maybe, he can pass Don’t agree about Cannon, Smyth or Sinclair, all good on ball, I think he’s great new for them. Willock and Chair will think it’s Christmas, May save Willick’s career! Don’t agree about Dunne either, Beale knew has crap on the ball. Players like Kolli could play a lot. It’s really exciting, I can’t wait to see us play.
I think we'll see a lot more of Archer in goal, he's a very underrated goalkeeper, especially on the ball
Underrated are you having a laugh. He’s as bad as Ainsworth.
@@nigelbaldwin1038 he was good at Millwall

As a pompey fan, I'm pissed at the title, because surely John Mousinho is the biggest risk in the EFL, having been a player the year before for Oxford.
Yea and no, we were and still are a pretty stable league 1 side I do think the mess QPR are in probably makes this appointment 10x riskier
When he was in Aalborg BK, he played 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-1-2, so he isn´t in love with a formation.
Good luck, he is a great trainer as he showed his first season. This season the management sold off 4-6 key players and replaced them with youngsters from our feeder club from the 3rd tier and then on top of that some really bad expensive recruites which failed badly. So with the material he had access to it was honestly ok this season even though it was a failure as a whole. But not really his fault.
10:25 That lineup might be enough to keep QPR in the division, as long as the EFL don't notice that a 5-2-4-3 formation isn't actually allowed!
Seriously though, my gut said get Neil Warnock in for the rest of the season to get the team believing in themselves and climbing out of the relegation zone, and maybe even the bottom half of the table. Appoint a new manager at the end of the season so he has time to get players in and out and get the team playing his style of football. By contrast, this is a massive risk - they're appointing a manager most fans in the UK have never heard of to the biggest club of his career to date, but the club itself is skint and looking at relegation unless he can adapt to the league and get the team playing football that gets results. Perhaps their lack of funds meant Warnock was unaffordable (or wouldn't have the transfer budget he wanted), and 'promising' is cheaper than 'proven' when it comes to managerial pedigree?
Heck, I might have reappointed Michael Beale on the basis that he had most of that squad at the top of the Championship around this time last season, so Rangers clearly thought that he was the real brains behind their success under Stevie G (whose Aston Villa was struggling since Beale left). I'm not a QPR fan (my dad is), so maybe I'm seeing his departure last season with a bit of emotional distance compared to many QPR fans - the team he knew well wanted to be the number one team in Scottish football again, and he (and they) thought he was the manager to get them there. That job was the only one that it made sense for him to leave QPR for, other than a step up to a Premier League team with genuine potential (e.g. Brighton).
Spot on analysis, it all boils down to can the current crop play the manager’s system or not.
As an Everton fan, I feel both comfort and fear watching these videos.
We suffer too many injuries to key players in a small squad. He will have to look at youngsters to get us through season and to retain our championship status. I really hope he can bring football back and help us progress.
Wish Gareth the best on whatever he does next.
This year in Sweden he actually didn't have the players and after a bad run switched to playing a 5-back instead
I’m optimistic but like you I have my concerns with the current team. Will they be able to adapt as quick as they can otherwise we are going to see some radical changes. However, I’m glad we will be more possession based and having control over games. Having a go at the opposition instead of retreating and feeling like the underdog.
in Norway and Scandinavia is like saying Scotland and the UK
Do more championship content!!!
James if we push high ww leave space like you said and our defence is slow and susceptible to break aways. Our middle men are terrible at following runners and defensive awareness. Players like chair and willock don't press when other team has ball.
I sadly can see it going even more wrong if possible
Marti is a brave choice who probably will need some time. But he did really well in Sweden and he plays an attractive football, and seems to develop players well. This seasons "failure" for his team is more on the sports director, who basically sold the entire core.
Need to also be bringing Charlie Kelman into the fold!!
Thought he was bang average on Saturday, start big sincs Armstrong over him all day
@@mkpieris1 To be fair, how can anyone look good in an Ainsworth team?
You love him when it’s going his way. It can become extremely frustrating and slow to watch whenever it’s not going his way.
Lisa Stansfield 😂😂
I wonder if he signs some of his players 🤔
Love to the family James
I made David Hockaday Arsenal manager on FM and he won a league title so anything is possible 💪
There isn’t much lower to go. The trap door is opening and under Ainsworth he just seemed to opening it wider each game without changing anything at all. This year’s football has been the worst I’ve seen my club play for a v long time. It surely can’t be any worse. That said, he’s going to need some help in the Jan transfer window
The biggest improvement they can make right now is to start holding people to account. From the board downward every person has been able to get away with doing anything they want, for as long as they want. Les and Amit are gone, so I hope Hoos takes that opportunity to get the right people in place, for those people to have targets/goals to achieve (like any other business!) and are then held accountable for the decisions made. I'm bored of the manager merry-go-round of "yes sir" men coming in, and as soon as they have something to say that isn't liked from above, they're out. A long-term plan and accountability are key. Also, I don't normally watch football videos and not sure how this came up, but it's great.
Hi James, just saw this video as recommended and watched it. I'm a Hammarby Fan, and have watched every single game with Cifuentes at helm. During his first season he had a quality squad all the way threw, he lacked a good #9, but the rest was golden. I know you're in to FM so you might have heard of Williot Swedberg who had a breaktrough season that year and later got sold to La Liga. But during his first season he had the players to play his way, he used a 4-3-3 where his Wingbacks was very offensive and his CBs stood wide in attack and the DM filled in between. He used two Inside forwards and one defensive playmaker and one free roaming playmaker who filled the spaces and won the assist leuge. Both of this guys have amazing vision and touch and they switched so both of them played both roles. We should have won the leuge this year, but we lost some cruical games due to him trying to much and messed up game plans against top teams, either that or unbalanced midfield. Last season he had such a turnover in the squad, I think we lost 6-7 starting players and didn't recruited the same quality (common in lower rep leuges), he tried to stay with his philosophy but we had a really bad start to the season, during our European spell we switched to a 5-3-2 system and we nearly beat FC Twente that is a much bigger club than us in Europe. He stuck with this system all season long, it's a bit more defensive system but the wingers still attacks. He stays with his CBs he uses a DM a B2B and a Offensive playmaker that nearly plays as a 10, his two attackers was hard working, one roam more to the spaces and the other stayed in the box. He was succesfull with this system also.
Points on Cifuentes:
- Tries to do to much against tough opponents.
- Is adaptable to the squad.
- Very good leader in lockerroom.
- Likes to play and mold young players.
- Intelligent and find ways to make players better.
- Passionate
I think he can do very well in English football, it is going to be a learning curve but I won't be suprised to see some Hammarbyplayers in QPR in the future.
Good luck Cifuentes and QPR, tack Marti!
Can we go in on QPR. Something isnt happening over ther
As a swede idk who told you all this, cifuentes football is the opposite of brave. Trying to keep the ball as much as possible without even trying to go forward just to avoid conceding goals isn’t really exiting or risky if you ask me, most of hammarbys games were extremely boring to watch
James please become the new manager for QPR we need you.
Jim we need a video on mckenna
Shades of Bielsa at Leeds, with a total change of direction. Enjoy it's fun.
it was both high and low in hammarby, if he didn't go to qpr before the end of the season I'm sure he would get sacked from hammarby. Tends to get boring sometimes with a lot of passing around between the defenders and 0 shots at goals some games (actually 0)
Hope you have your post-Conte Postecoglou moment,
I think since Beale left did something psychologically to the team. I think some of our players need a real kick up the arse.
Ill be happy with survival this year.
I think Eustace would have been the best realistic option. Cifuentes is too left field imo Denmark and Sweden compared to the Championship is a different breed.
Its not going to be a long time appointment. He usually change clubs every 3rd year.
Hope he cooks at QPR but as you rightly point out it will be a difficult transition
Biggest load of rubbish I’ve heard in a long time. First off as a 40 year old, the manager at 41 did not grow up watching Johan Cruyff. Fox is so left footed he wouldn’t fit into new system but Dunne would? We brought Ainsworth in last season because we were struggling and we needed a different, direct style to stop our slide and stay in the league. We managed it and so he probably deserved to start the season. We now have time to implement playing style successfully. Ainsworth was the correct appointment for what we needed at the time.
Biggest risk in the EFL this season is actually Wednesday appointing Rohl
Total football only works if you’ve got the players to make it work.
Get yourself down rotherham away going to be lit. Maaarti cifuentes he drinks estrella he eats paella 🎶
